What a cloud VPS must provide for vMix
The deciding factor is not simply whether the VPS runs Windows: vMix needs graphics hardware directly attached to the guest, with virtual display support. Its cloud setup guide uses Amazon EC2 as an example and specifies Windows Server 2019 x64, at least four allocated CPU cores, supported GPU/display hardware, and specialized NVIDIA Grid drivers for that configuration. The guide was last updated in 2020; its particular EC2 instance examples are historical guidance, not current recommendations for any provider. vMix’s cloud setup guide and its supported hardware guidance describe the graphics requirements.

vMix recommends dedicated NVIDIA graphics, and the required GPU speed depends on the number of inputs and simultaneous outputs. A VPS advertised as “GPU-enabled” still needs verification: establish whether that GPU is exposed to Windows with the necessary virtual display support and which driver branch the provider supports.
Check the exact Indian VPS before buying
Ask the provider for written answers about the specific plan and region. Generic assurances that a server has a GPU or high bandwidth do not establish vMix compatibility or 24/7 suitability.

- GPU and display: What GPU model is assigned, and is it directly attached to the Windows guest with virtual display support?
- Drivers: Which NVIDIA driver is supported on the plan, and can it be installed or updated without breaking the virtual display?
- Windows: Is a Windows Server license included, and which Windows edition and version are provided?
- Network: What sustained outbound throughput is available, and do fair-use limits or traffic caps apply?
- Operations: What are the maintenance and reboot policies? Can you access the machine using a remote-control method compatible with vMix?
- Location and cost: Which region will host the VPS, what latency should you expect to the audience and YouTube ingest, and what is the full cost at continuous use?
- Recovery and recording: What availability or recovery commitments exist, and is there enough storage for a separate recording if you need one?
No Indian provider’s current GPU inventory, pricing, uptime commitment, driver compatibility, or guaranteed 24/7 bandwidth is established here. Treat those as questions to verify directly, not assumed properties of a country or provider.
Test vMix on the actual instance
Run a trial on the exact plan you intend to use, not just a similarly named machine. vMix warns that shared-cloud performance is not guaranteed. Its cloud guide suggests rendering a test MP4: if the result is blank, vMix cannot access the GPU. Passing that check confirms basic GPU access, not sustained performance or uninterrupted operation over a full day.

- Confirm the Windows guest sees the intended GPU and display. Check the provider’s specified driver and display configuration. In the vMix cloud guide’s EC2 setup, the GPU-connected display should be primary and other Microsoft Basic Adapter displays disabled; confirm the right procedure for your provider rather than copying EC2-specific setup blindly.
- Use a supported remote-control method. vMix says not to use Remote Desktop (RDP) to control vMix in the cloud. Its guide names VNC, TeamViewer, AnyDesk, and Teradici as alternatives. Confirm which one the provider supports and test that the GPU/display remains available while you control the machine.
- Render a test MP4 in vMix. Verify that it displays correctly rather than producing a blank output, which indicates vMix cannot access the GPU.
- Run your intended workload. Load the real inputs, scene, output settings, and encoding method. Observe rendering, stream health, and upload stability under representative load; a brief desktop check is not a 24/7 test.
- Test recovery and maintenance behavior. Check what happens after a network interruption, application restart, Windows reboot, and provider maintenance event. Do not assume a continuous service until you have tested the recovery path on that plan.
Configure the YouTube stream and network
YouTube accepts RTMP or RTMPS ingest and supports H.264, H.265, and AV1, up to 60 fps. It recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval. For broad compatibility, H.264 is the conservative choice unless you have verified that your vMix version, GPU hardware encoder, and ingest workflow all support your chosen alternative. vMix’s release notes mention YouTube Live support for AV1 and HEVC, while its documentation says those formats require supported GPU hardware encoding. Those bitrate figures are encoder recommendations, not proof that a VPS can sustain the needed upload rate. Run a speed test and test the stream before launch, then monitor YouTube’s stream health while the intended content is playing. Leave network headroom for fluctuations and any other traffic on the instance; a nominal connection speed alone does not demonstrate stable continuous ingest.

Account limits, rights, and YouTube archives
Technical compatibility does not replace YouTube account eligibility. YouTube says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Its current help information also lists a maximum of 10 active streams per channel and 3 per stream key. The stream must comply with YouTube’s content rules and rights requirements. Check YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and restrictions before scheduling the broadcast.
A continuous public feed and a complete saved replay are separate requirements. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; if a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. If retaining the complete program matters, keep an independent recording. Alternatively, use shorter sessions and controlled restarts only if a break in the public feed is acceptable. Common problems and what to check
- vMix opens but the test MP4 is blank: vMix may not have access to the GPU. Recheck GPU passthrough, the supported driver, and the primary display configuration with the provider.
- Output becomes unreliable under load: The instance may not have enough GPU capacity for its inputs and simultaneous outputs, or shared-cloud performance may vary. Test the complete intended workload and ask the provider about dedicated allocation.
- The display or GPU disappears after remote login: RDP is not vMix’s recommended control path in the cloud. Use a supported alternative such as VNC, TeamViewer, AnyDesk, or Teradici, and recheck display assignment.
- YouTube reports unstable stream health: Test sustained upload from the instance, check for network limits or competing traffic, and verify that the encoder uses the selected codec, CBR, and recommended keyframe interval.
- The stream stops during maintenance or a reboot: Confirm the provider’s restart policy and test the application and stream recovery process. A successful initial connection does not establish uninterrupted operation.
- The broadcast is live but the replay is missing or incomplete: A session longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Preserve a separate recording or plan shorter sessions if complete archives are required.
- YouTube will not allow the stream to start: Verify channel eligibility, recent live-streaming restrictions, stream-key limits, and the content’s rights status separately from VPS troubleshooting.
