No. Raspberry Pi Connect lets a Windows PC or Mac act as the browser you use to reach a linked Raspberry Pi; it does not remotely control the Windows or Mac computer itself. Connect provides access to the Pi through screen sharing or a remote shell.
What Raspberry Pi Connect can—and cannot—control
Think of the Windows PC or Mac as the control device and the Raspberry Pi as the computer being controlled. You sign in to Connect in a browser on the PC or Mac, select a linked Pi, and open one of the access methods available for that Pi. Raspberry Pi’s Connect documentation and remote-access documentation describe access to Raspberry Pi devices, not remote control of the browser-running computer.

That distinction matters: being able to open Connect from Windows or macOS does not make the Windows or Mac desktop a Connect target. If your goal is to access files, apps, or the desktop on the PC or Mac, Connect is not the tool described for that purpose.

On a PC, Mac, or other device, sign in to the Connect website in a browser, choose a Raspberry Pi linked to your account, then select the available session type. Raspberry Pi’s documentation describes browser access but does not specify a detailed browser-version compatibility matrix.

The operating-system baseline in Raspberry Pi’s remote-access documentation is Raspberry Pi OS Bookworm or later. Screen sharing is the option for a graphical desktop, but its availability depends on the Pi’s configuration; remote shell is the alternative when you need a terminal rather than a desktop.
How the connection works
Connect is designed to simplify reaching the Pi over a network. Raspberry Pi says users do not need to find the Pi’s local IP address or change the local firewall to use browser access. A direct local connection is described as faster and more responsive than a connection routed over the internet or through a relay.

Raspberry Pi says Connect sessions use WebRTC and that screen-sharing and remote-shell traffic is encrypted with DTLS between the Pi and the browser. If a direct peer-to-peer connection cannot be made, encrypted traffic can be relayed through a TURN server. These are Raspberry Pi’s descriptions of the service, not the findings of an independent security audit.

Choose the session that matches the task
- Use screen sharing when you need the Pi’s graphical desktop, and the Pi meets the Wayland and operating-system requirements.
- Use remote shell when you need to administer the Pi or run commands in a terminal.
- Use another remote-access solution if the computer you need to control is the Windows PC or Mac itself; Connect’s documented target is the Raspberry Pi.
