Yes, but only through the Xbox version of DayZ on PC. A PC player must use the PC Game Pass or Microsoft Store/Xbox Play Anywhere build, not the regular Steam edition. The PC and Xbox players then meet on servers marked Keyboard & Mouse.
This is a limited Xbox-build connection rather than unrestricted crossplay between every PC and console edition. Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S players can share servers, while PlayStation is outside this specific compatibility arrangement.

What DayZ crossplay actually supports
DayZ supports PC-to-Xbox play only when the PC copy is the Xbox build distributed through the Microsoft ecosystem. Bohemia Interactive describes this arrangement as “not traditional cross-play.” The distinction matters because DayZ has separate PC and console versions, and the normal Steam PC edition is not the route described for joining Xbox players.

- Storefront and build: the PC installation must be the Xbox build obtained through PC Game Pass or the Microsoft Store/Xbox Play Anywhere ecosystem.
- Server category: the shared session must be on a server designated Keyboard & Mouse.
- Platform family: the documented exception covers Xbox players, not PlayStation players.
If any of those conditions is missing, the PC and Xbox players should not expect to see the same server or join the same session.
Which PC version can join an Xbox friend?
| PC storefront or platform | Build used | Xbox connection | Important condition |
|---|---|---|---|
| PC Game Pass | Xbox build of DayZ | Supported under the documented exception | Use a Keyboard & Mouse server |
| Microsoft Store PC listing using the Xbox Play Anywhere ecosystem | Xbox build of DayZ | Supported under the documented exception | Use a Keyboard & Mouse server |
| Steam | Separate PC edition | Not the route described for Xbox crossplay | Do not assume a Steam copy can join Xbox servers |
| PlayStation version | Console edition | Not included in this Xbox-build exception | PlayStation is a separate platform scope |
The key is the build, not simply the fact that the game is installed on a computer. A PC Game Pass installation can run the Xbox version, whereas a Steam installation remains in the separate PC ecosystem. Storefront availability and Xbox Play Anywhere eligibility can vary by region, account and current Microsoft terms, so check the DayZ listing shown for your account before purchasing or installing.
Why Keyboard & Mouse servers are required
The Microsoft Store PC version does not expose every Xbox server. Bohemia’s FAQ says PC players using that version have access only to “Keyboard & Mouse” servers. That server category is intended to prevent PC and console users from being mixed on controller-only servers.
The restriction is a fairness measure. Mouse aiming and keyboard movement can provide different control options from a gamepad, so separating server categories reduces the risk that one input method creates an unintended advantage. Bohemia has also cited broader control-balance, voice-chat and player-reporting concerns when discussing why unrestricted PC-console play is difficult.

For a mixed party, the practical rule is simple: select a server whose listing identifies it as Keyboard & Mouse. A controller-only server is not the correct destination for the PC player running the Xbox build, even if the Xbox player can see it.
How to play with an Xbox friend from PC
1. Confirm the PC edition before installing
- On the PC, open the Xbox app or Microsoft Store account you intend to use.
- Locate the DayZ listing and verify that it is the PC Game Pass or Microsoft Store/Xbox Play Anywhere version.
- Do not use the Steam listing for this particular PC-to-Xbox setup.
If you already have DayZ installed, check which launcher and storefront owns the installation. The launcher is a useful first check, but the decisive issue is whether the installed copy is the Xbox build.
2. Install and sign in to the Xbox ecosystem
- Install the eligible DayZ build through PC Game Pass or the Microsoft Store route associated with Xbox Play Anywhere.
- Sign in to the Microsoft/Xbox account that owns or provides access to the game.
- Have the Xbox player use the Xbox account where the friend connection is established.
Access rights are tied to the account and storefront. If the PC launcher shows no entitlement, confirm that the correct account is signed in before troubleshooting multiplayer.
3. Add or locate the Xbox friend
Use the Xbox social and friends system associated with the PC build to locate the Xbox player. Both players should appear under the expected Xbox gamertags. If the friend cannot be found, check spelling, privacy settings and whether each player is signed into the intended account.

4. Choose a Keyboard & Mouse server
- Launch DayZ on both systems.
- Open the server browser.
- Filter or scan the listings for a server marked Keyboard & Mouse.
- Choose the same server name and region where possible.
Do not select a controller-only listing simply because it has a shorter queue or appears near the top. The server category is part of the compatibility rule.
5. Join the same session
One player can join the selected server first and give the other the exact server name. The second player should use the same listing rather than relying on a generic “join game” assumption. DayZ servers can have queues, restarts or capacity limits, so a friend may not appear immediately even when both editions are compatible.
Can Steam DayZ play with Xbox?
The regular Steam edition should be treated as a separate PC ecosystem. The official exception is written specifically for the Xbox build running on PC through PC Game Pass or the Microsoft Store/Xbox Play Anywhere ecosystem. Therefore, a Steam player should not promise an Xbox friend that they can join the same server.

If Bohemia Interactive changes the supported crossplay arrangement, the current official FAQ and storefront descriptions should take precedence. Until then, moving from Steam to the eligible Xbox build is the relevant requirement for a PC player who wants to play with Xbox users.

Can Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S players play together?
Yes. Bohemia Interactive’s FAQ states that Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S can play on the same servers. A mixed-generation Xbox group therefore does not need separate server pools solely because some players use Xbox One and others use a Series X|S console.
The Keyboard & Mouse restriction applies to the PC player entering through the Xbox build. It does not create a separate Xbox One-versus-Series matchmaking rule.
Does DayZ crossplay include PlayStation?
Not under the documented PC Game Pass/Microsoft Store exception. DayZ is available on PlayStation, but the specific arrangement that lets a PC user meet an Xbox friend is defined around the Xbox build on PC and Xbox servers. PlayStation is not included in that exception.
Recommended Free Tools
A group containing PC, Xbox and PlayStation players should not plan on one shared session based on this rule. The supported PC-console combination described here is PC running the Xbox build plus Xbox consoles on the permitted server category.
Troubleshooting a PC-to-Xbox connection
The PC player cannot see the Xbox friend
- Confirm that the PC is running the Xbox build, not Steam.
- Check that both players are signed into the intended Microsoft/Xbox accounts.
- Verify the gamertag and review account privacy or friend-request settings.
- Restart the game after accepting a new friend connection so the social list refreshes.
The two players see different server lists
- Make sure the PC player is looking specifically for Keyboard & Mouse servers.
- Check that both players are searching the same region or server name.
- Account for server queues, maintenance and full capacity.
- Confirm that the PC installation is the Microsoft Store/PC Game Pass Xbox build.
The PC player can see a server but cannot join
The server may be controller-only, full, restarting or outside the access provided to the PC Xbox build. Return to the browser and select a Keyboard & Mouse listing. If the problem affects every eligible server, verify the account entitlement and update status before treating it as a crossplay limitation.
An Xbox player expects to join a Steam-hosted session
There is no supported Steam-to-Xbox route described by the official platform wording. The PC player needs the eligible Xbox build, and the group must select a compatible Keyboard & Mouse server.
What this means for your group
DayZ’s arrangement is best understood as Xbox-network play delivered to a PC, not as one universal crossplay pool. The PC Game Pass or Microsoft Store/Xbox Play Anywhere build gives the computer access to the Xbox side of the game, while server categorization controls where that player can go.
Before buying or reinstalling, use this checklist:
- Is the PC copy from PC Game Pass or the Microsoft Store/Xbox Play Anywhere ecosystem?
- Is it definitely not the Steam edition?
- Are all players using Xbox accounts for the supported PC-to-Xbox connection?
- Are you selecting a Keyboard & Mouse server?
- Are the console players on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S rather than PlayStation?
If the answer to each question is yes, a PC player and an Xbox friend can technically play DayZ together within the limits of this Xbox-build connection.
