Not with OBS alone. OBS needs a powered computer—local or remote—to play the prerecorded video, encode it, and send it to YouTube. You can avoid keeping a local PC running by using a cloud streaming service or compatible standalone hardware. A scheduled YouTube broadcast may also need a person to click Go live, unless the current Auto-start settings and workflow support an unattended start.
What “without a logged-in PC” can mean
If you mean OBS should keep streaming after you turn off your computer, no: OBS is software, not a streaming host. If you mean you do not want a local computer running, that is possible—but another system must do the work. A cloud service runs the video and encoder on its infrastructure; dedicated hardware plays and sends the stream itself. Both still need power, a network connection, and a configured YouTube destination.

YouTube defines an encoder this way: “An encoder converts your video into a digital format to stream on YouTube.” Its guide names cloud services for prerecorded 24/7 streams and describes AJA PlayToStream for scheduling prerecorded media to YouTube Live without a computer. OBS on a local computer
This keeps the most direct control over OBS, but the computer must remain powered, connected, and able to play and encode for the full broadcast. A computer that is merely logged out of its desktop session is not a substitute for an active OBS process; if the machine sleeps, loses network access, or shuts down, the stream stops.
Cloud streaming services
YouTube’s encoder directory identifies Gyre as a cloud tool for 24/7 prerecorded videos on YouTube and describes Upstream as a cloud studio for 24/7 live video streaming. StreamNeo is another cloud option for looping uploaded videos to YouTube. For any provider, verify current upload and storage rules, scheduling controls, stream limits, recovery behavior, and plan terms before committing. Those details can change.
Dedicated hardware
YouTube describes AJA PlayToStream as functionality that schedules prerecorded media to YouTube Live without a computer. Its directory also lists AJA HELO Plus as a standalone H.264 encoder, but that listing does not establish that every HELO Plus model or configuration includes PlayToStream. Ask AJA to confirm the exact model, firmware, feature, and workflow before buying for this purpose.

Remote computer or server
A hosted virtual or physical computer can run OBS, so your home PC can be off. This removes the local machine, not the encoder: you still have to provision and maintain a remote host, configure its video playback and network access, and monitor its operation. It is less turnkey than a service designed to loop uploaded prerecorded videos.
Run a prerecorded stream with OBS
These steps assume you want OBS to encode from a computer you control. YouTube’s scheduled-stream flow includes a preview and a Go live action; do not assume that scheduling by itself makes the entire process unattended.
- Create or schedule the broadcast in YouTube Studio. Open YouTube Studio, create a live stream or schedule one, and select the encoder workflow. The exact labels can change as YouTube updates Studio.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS, either connect your YouTube account through the available account integration or enter the YouTube server URL and stream key in the streaming settings. Use YouTube’s recommended RTMPS endpoint when available; RTMPS is the encrypted extension of RTMP recommended by YouTube.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password. Do not share it or include it in a screenshot, recording, or public document. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- Add the prerecorded file in OBS. Add a media source and select the video. Confirm that it plays from beginning to end as expected and that its audio is present. If you need a repeating broadcast, configure the source to loop and check that the transition from the end back to the start behaves correctly.
- Set output to match the video and your connection. YouTube recommends an H.264 bitrate of 14 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 17 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are recommendations, not guarantees: choose settings the computer can encode and the connection can sustain, and check YouTube’s current encoder table for the target resolution and frame rate.
- Test and monitor. Start the encoder and wait for YouTube’s preview. Test representative motion and audio, then watch stream health for warnings or dropped frames. A stable upload connection matters throughout, not just when the stream starts.
- Start the broadcast and keep the host running. When the preview appears, use YouTube Studio’s Go live control if the workflow requires it. Keep OBS, the video source, the computer, and the network active until you end the broadcast.
Scheduling, recurring broadcasts, and unattended starts
YouTube’s documented scheduled-stream workflow includes waiting for the preview and clicking Go live. OBS’s community guide describes account integration and Auto-start/Auto-stop controls for scheduled broadcasts, but interface behavior and availability can change. If nobody will be present, verify the current Auto-start behavior in your own YouTube and OBS setup and run a test before relying on it.

YouTube’s Live Streaming API also supports reusing a stream configuration and binding it to multiple broadcasts. That is a developer automation workflow, not a way to run an encoder without a host; the encoder still has to be active, and the documented common use case has only one event live at a time.

Check YouTube settings, duration, and rights
Stream quality and connection
Use YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions as the reference for your resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate. The 1080p H.264 recommendations are 14 Mbps at 30 fps and 17 Mbps at 60 fps. Test the actual file, including its loudest or most active sections, and monitor stream health rather than assuming a nominal internet speed guarantees a clean broadcast.
Stream duration and archives
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its cited encoder guidance does not make the same guarantee for streams longer than 12 hours, so do not rely on automatic archiving for a longer or continuous broadcast. Plan recording and archive handling separately, and confirm the provider’s restart and duration behavior for 24/7 operation.

Copyright and reused material
Having a video file does not by itself establish the right to broadcast it. Use material you created, licensed, or otherwise have permission to stream, including its music and other embedded content. Review YouTube’s current copyright and monetization policies before building a long-running channel around prerecorded uploads; a continuous stream is not an exemption from those rules.
Troubleshoot common failures

- Choose local OBS if you need OBS control and can leave a suitable computer running and monitored.
