For a practical comparison, the entertainment-focused Tab Plus Gen 2 and student-oriented Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 are distinct from Lenovo’s creator-focused Yoga models. The right choice depends on the exact model, regional bundle, apps and accessories you need, and how long you expect to use it.
Which Lenovo tablet is the comparison about?
The Tab Plus Gen 2 is aimed at entertainment, with a large high-refresh-rate screen and a substantial speaker setup. The Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 is a large-screen student-oriented option listed in Lenovo’s India catalog. Lenovo’s newer Yoga announcement splits its range between a larger creator tablet and a more portable model. Their specifications and support commitments are not interchangeable.

How the screens and configurations compare

It reports resolutions of 2360 × 1640 for the 11-inch Air and 2732 × 2048 for the 13-inch model. Apple’s current iPad comparison page also lists both sizes.

| Lenovo Tab Plus Gen 2 | 12.1-inch LCD; 2560 × 1600; 120Hz; Dolby Vision and HDR10 | Lenovo’s announced specifications; they do not establish brightness or comparative image quality. |
| Lenovo Idea Tab Pro Gen 2, India listing | Optional 13-inch matte 3.5K display; 144Hz | Market- and configuration-specific Lenovo listing; confirm the exact SKU. |
| Lenovo Yoga Tab Plus Gen 2 | 13-inch 4K PureSight Pro display | Lenovo’s announcement; a directly comparable refresh-rate or brightness figure is not stated in the cited material. |
| Lenovo Yoga Tab Gen 2 | 11-inch display | Lenovo’s announcement; a directly comparable resolution, refresh-rate, or brightness figure is not stated in the cited material. |

Resolution and refresh rate alone do not settle which screen is better for you. Matte finish, color and HDR support, brightness, screen size, and the apps you use all matter; the cited sources do not provide a common test covering all of those factors. Lenovo’s higher listed refresh rates or larger creator display are specific feature advantages, not proof of superior overall value.
What Lenovo promises for software support
Support commitments vary by model. Lenovo says the Tab Plus Gen 2 launches with Android 16, is expected to receive two OS upgrades through Android 18, and will receive security patches through 2030. Its India listing for the Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 describes Android 16, two OS upgrades through Android 18, and four years of security patches through 2030. Those details should be checked against the exact regional SKU.

Lenovo estimated September 2026 availability, so check that a specific model is actually available in your market and confirm the terms for its SKU. TechRadar’s 2026 review measured the 13-inch iPad Air M4 at 3,745 single-core and 13,342 multi-core in Geekbench 6. Those are the reviewer’s results for the iPad, not Apple’s claims and not a Lenovo-versus-iPad comparison. The same review describes the M4 Air as an iterative update, advising owners of M2 or M3 Air models that an upgrade may not be necessary, while treating it as a current, powerful option for buyers with older devices. It also notes that the design and display are largely unchanged from earlier generations. TechRadar’s iPad Air M4 review gives the test context.
Apps, accessories, and the real setup cost
A tablet’s value depends on what you can do with it, not just its screen or processor. Consider whether the apps you rely on are available and work the way you need on Android or iPadOS, including any specialized creative, education, or work tools. The cited sources do not provide a head-to-head app compatibility audit, so check essential apps and workflows before choosing.

Accessories can also change the total cost. Lenovo lists the Tab Pen Plus, Lenovo Wireless Keyboard, and 68W USB-C wall charger as separately sold compatible accessories for the Tab Plus Gen 2. Its Yoga announcement describes an optional magnetic keyboard for the Yoga Tab Plus Gen 2 and a detachable keyboard pack and Tab Pen Pro 2 for the Yoga Tab Gen 2. TechRadar reminds iPad buyers to account for Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard costs when relevant. Verify exact compatibility, what is included in the local bundle, and current accessory prices rather than comparing tablet-only prices. Lenovo’s announcements do not establish current regional prices for all these setups.

Portability is another trade-off: a 13-inch tablet can give you more room for reading, drawing, or multitasking, but an 11-inch model is smaller to carry. The cited material does not provide directly comparable weights or battery-life tests across these devices, so use exact regional specifications and independent testing if those are deciding factors.

How to choose between a Lenovo tablet and iPad Air M4
- Pick the Lenovo model by use: consider Tab Plus Gen 2 for its announced entertainment features, Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 if its India-listed student-focused configuration suits your market, or a Yoga model for the announced creator and productivity positioning.
- Match the size and storage: compare an 11-inch tablet with the 11-inch Air or a 13-inch tablet with the 13-inch Air, then select storage that fits your files and apps. The cited Air review lists 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB choices; confirm local Lenovo configurations.
- Price the complete setup: add the compatible pen and keyboard you need, and check whether each is bundled or separately sold in your country.
- Check your essential apps and workflow: confirm availability and compatibility on the operating system you are considering, especially for tools you depend on for school, creative work, or a job.
- Verify support and availability by SKU: read the support terms for the precise Lenovo model and market, and confirm current availability and terms for any recently announced Yoga device.
For someone choosing between a student-oriented Lenovo and iPad Air, “Should I get an iPad or a Lenovo Idea Tab Pro Gen 2?” is a useful way to frame the decision—but the answer still depends on configuration, apps, accessories, and regional pricing.
Does Lenovo make the iPad Air irrelevant?
No. Lenovo’s lineup offers increasingly capable alternatives with distinct strengths: the Tab Plus Gen 2 emphasizes entertainment hardware, the Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 has a high-refresh-rate large-screen configuration listed in India, and the new Yoga tablets carry longer announced software-support plans. But those specifications do not make every Lenovo tablet a substitute for every Air, nor do they establish a performance or value winner. The iPad Air M4 remains a current option for buyers who want Apple’s platform and apps; the best choice is the model that supports your work, fits your preferred size, and costs less for the setup you actually need.
