The GeForce RTX 2070 Super still has concrete capabilities for gaming, hardware-accelerated streaming, and NVIDIA’s RTX Video Super Resolution feature. But feature support is not a promise of smooth frame rates in every current game, and its 8 GB of video memory is a real constraint to consider. Whether it remains useful depends on the games, settings, and software you use.
What the RTX 2070 Super still offers
NVIDIA identifies the RTX 2070 Super as a Turing-generation GPU. Its reference specifications list 2,560 CUDA cores, a 1,770 MHz boost clock, 8 GB of GDDR6 memory at 14 Gbps, a 256-bit memory interface, and 448 GB/s of memory bandwidth. NVIDIA also lists first-generation ray-tracing cores, second-generation Tensor Cores, DLSS support, and a Turing NVENC hardware encoder. These specifications describe the card, but do not predict performance in a particular modern game or application. NVIDIA’s RTX 2070 Super specifications

Is it still suitable for gaming?
The card supports DLSS, but that does not mean every game supports every DLSS feature or that a particular resolution and preset will deliver a particular frame rate. NVIDIA’s current comparison table places RTX 20-series cards under DLSS 2, including Super Resolution, DLAA, and Ray Reconstruction; individual games determine which features are available. NVIDIA’s GeForce series comparison
There is no current, game-specific benchmark evidence here to establish frame rates or a blanket claim that the card runs today’s games well. For a useful performance answer, look for tests of the exact game and version at your resolution and settings, including ray tracing and DLSS mode where applicable. The card’s 8 GB of memory and older feature generation should be part of that decision, but the specifications alone do not quantify how they affect a particular game.

NVIDIA’s launch announcement is historical context, not a current buying guide: in June 2019, the company announced a $499 starting price and claimed the RTX 2070 Super was up to 24% faster, averaging 16% faster, than the RTX 2070. Those were manufacturer launch figures, not independent test results or today’s market price. NVIDIA’s 2019 RTX SUPER launch announcement
Streaming: the hardware encoder is still relevant
NVIDIA lists a Turing NVENC encoder on the RTX 2070 Super, and its RTX 20-series overview discusses GeForce RTX streaming capabilities. That gives the card a hardware encoder relevant to compatible streaming software. It does not establish an ideal OBS setup, a specific codec’s image quality or throughput, or the frame-rate cost of encoding while gaming; those depend on the software, settings, and workload. Video playback: RTX Video Super Resolution support and limits
NVIDIA’s 2024 NVIDIA App announcement says RTX Video Super Resolution (VSR) works on all GeForce RTX GPUs. That later statement includes the RTX 2070 Super and updates the narrower RTX 30- and 40-series restriction in NVIDIA’s original 2023 VSR launch announcement. VSR is intended to reduce compression artifacts and sharpen edges as streaming video is upscaled; actual availability depends on supported software and settings. NVIDIA’s FAQ says VSR supports video input from 360p through 1440p, with output to supported displays up to 5K. It also notes that some DRM-protected content and YouTube Shorts are unsupported. VSR does not operate while a game uses NVIDIA Image Scaling, Dynamic Super Resolution, or DLDSR. Check current driver, app, browser or media-player support and settings before troubleshooting. Power, connectors, and fit depend on the exact card
For its reference design, NVIDIA lists 215 W graphics-card power, 6-pin plus 8-pin supplementary power connectors, and dimensions of 266.74 mm long, 115.7 mm high, and two slots wide. NVIDIA recommends a 650 W system power supply for a stated configuration with an Intel Core i7 at 3.2 GHz, while noting that prebuilt systems may need less depending on configuration. Board-partner cards can differ, so check the label and manufacturer documentation for the exact model, then verify the power supply and case clearance before installing or replacing hardware. How to judge whether yours is worth keeping
- For gaming: Use benchmarks for the games you actually play, at your target resolution and settings. Treat DLSS as a game-dependent option, not a guaranteed performance result.
- For streaming: Confirm your streaming software supports the encoder and codec settings you plan to use, then assess quality and gaming performance with your own configuration.
- For video playback: Check that your browser or media player, driver, and settings support VSR, and remember the input-content limitations NVIDIA documents.
- For an upgrade decision: Compare tested performance at matching settings, memory capacity, encoder support, power and connector needs, physical fit, and the current price and condition of each card. The information cited here does not establish that the RTX 2070 Super is a better value than a newer GPU.
