Yes, a Raspberry Pi 4 can be used to encode a modest YouTube Live feed over JioFiber, but its specifications do not prove it will stay live unattended around the clock. Raspberry Pi lists H.264 encoding up to 1080p30, while YouTube specifies ingest settings such as bitrate and keyframe interval. A dependable setup also needs a compatible capture and encoder pipeline, stable upload, reliable power and cooling, and recovery after an interruption.
What the Raspberry Pi 4 can—and cannot—establish
The Raspberry Pi 4 Model B specification lists a Broadcom BCM2711 quad-core Cortex-A72 processor, Gigabit Ethernet, and H.264 encoding up to 1080p30. It also lists H.264 decoding up to 1080p60 and H.265 decoding at 4Kp60; those decode figures are not encode capabilities. The board’s stated minimum USB-C input is 5V/3A, and its specified ambient operating-temperature range is 0–50°C. These are hardware specifications, not a guarantee that a particular capture device, encoder application, filter chain, or overlay will work continuously. Raspberry Pi 4 Model B specifications

For a fixed camera or a looped video feed, a simple capture-to-H.264 pipeline with minimal processing is the more cautious starting point. Confirm that the software and input device you choose can use the Pi 4’s encoding capability at the intended resolution and frame rate. Do not assume that arbitrary software transcoding, overlays, or filters will fit the same workload.
Choose YouTube ingest settings the Pi and connection can sustain
YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 video, recommends constant bitrate (CBR), and recommends a 2-second keyframe interval, with no more than 4 seconds between keyframes. For H.264, its recommended video bitrates are 3 Mbps for 720p30 and 5 Mbps for 1080p30. These are YouTube ingest recommendations, not evidence that your particular JioFiber connection can sustain those rates continuously. YouTube encoder settings

A cautious first configuration is 720p30 H.264, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and AAC audio. Set the video bitrate below the stable upload capacity you measure under the conditions in which the stream will run; leave headroom for audio and ordinary network variation. Before relying on the feed, test with representative audio and motion and monitor YouTube’s stream health. A low-motion test alone may not reveal encoding or upload problems that appear with a more demanding scene.

What JioFiber changes
Jio describes JioFiber plans as having symmetric upload and download speeds and unlimited data, but the actual speed depends on the customer’s plan. Check the active plan and measure stable upload at the location and time the encoder will operate; a generic plan description is not a guarantee of sustained throughput. JioFiber plans

- Use wired Ethernet if the router is nearby and the installation allows it.
- Measure upload stability rather than choosing a bitrate from the plan’s headline speed alone.
- Account for failures beyond the ISP link: home power, router or ONT, local wiring, software, and the Pi itself.
Prepare for interruptions and the 24/7 distinction
A feed that can run for a long time is not the same as one YouTube live event that remains uninterrupted every day. The official YouTube encoder-settings and RTMPS pages describe ingest requirements, but do not establish the current duration or archive behavior for a broadcast exceeding 12 hours. Verify YouTube’s current long-stream policy before deciding whether to use one extended event or scheduled/restarted events.
Set up and test the encoder’s reconnect or restart behavior, and watch YouTube stream health during a representative run. If availability matters, consider reliable power for the Pi and backup power for the router and ONT as well. Neither reconnect settings nor backup power can eliminate every cause of interruption, and no continuous-runtime result is established for this hardware and connection combination.

Common failure points to check
- YouTube reports unstable stream health: Measure stable upload again under the actual operating conditions and reduce the video bitrate if it is too close to the available capacity.
- The stream will not connect: Confirm the YouTube stream key, use a valid RTMPS ingestion endpoint, and ensure the connection uses port 443.
- The Pi struggles at the chosen settings: Verify that the selected software is using a compatible H.264 encoding path. Reduce resolution, frame rate, or processing complexity if the capture or filter chain exceeds what the setup can handle.
- The stream stops after a network or power interruption: Test reconnect or restart behavior instead of assuming the encoder will recover unattended. Check power to the Pi, router, and ONT.
- A single event’s duration or archive is uncertain: Check YouTube’s current long-stream policy before building a schedule around an event longer than 12 hours.
Does continuous streaming make the content eligible for YouTube?
Technical ability to send a live feed does not establish that its content complies with YouTube’s rules or qualifies for monetization. Use only material you have rights to stream, and review YouTube’s current copyright and monetization requirements—particularly before looping prerecorded material. Avoid treating an uninterrupted stream as a substitute for checking those rules.
