It does not make splitting obsolete: material requirements, bed adhesion and awkward geometry can still make a one-piece print impractical. Because no specific before-and-after printer, model or author experience is established here, this is a practical guide rather than a verified upgrade story.
What a larger build volume changes
Printer capacity is three-dimensional. A bigger bed footprint may help with a wide model, but it will not solve a height limit; likewise, a tall build volume does little for an object that is too wide. Compare the model’s full dimensions in the orientation you intend to print with the printer’s usable X, Y and Z build volume.
Manufacturer specifications offer a useful size comparison. Original Prusa lists the CORE One L+ at 300 × 300 × 330 mm (29.7 liters) and the CORE One+ Gen 2 at 250 × 220 × 270 mm (14.9 liters). Creality lists the Ender-3 V3 Plus at 300 × 300 × 330 mm. These are manufacturer-stated specifications, not independent measurements, and matching the dimensions does not guarantee a successful print.
Both manufacturers describe larger prints or fewer cuts as benefits of the larger format. Treat those as intended-use claims: whether a particular model fits and prints well depends on its dimensions, orientation and printing requirements.

How to decide whether a model will fit
- Check the model’s dimensions. Use the dimensions shown by your modeling or slicing software, then consider whether rotating the object changes its X, Y or Z span enough to fit.
- Compare all three axes with usable build volume. Do not compare only the bed width or diagonal. Leave practical clearance rather than planning a print right at the stated limit; the STL Splitter workflow guide recommends allowing bed margin.
- Check material and chamber requirements. A larger build area is not a substitute for the right thermal environment or material support. For example, Creality lists PLA, TPU 95A, PETG and PLA-CF for the Ender-3 V3 Plus and says an additional enclosure is required for ABS and other high-temperature filaments. That condition applies to this printer’s stated setup, not to printers generally.
- Account for placement and frequency. Compare the printer’s outside footprint and placement constraints, how often you print oversized objects, and how much assembly and finishing work splitting would otherwise require. The available specifications do not establish current prices, availability or total ownership cost, so those need separate checking.
When splitting is still the better option
If a model exceeds the printer’s usable volume, or its material and geometry make a one-piece print unsuitable, cutting it remains a normal fallback. Original Prusa’s MK4S manual says that an object too large for the bed in its original size can be cut into smaller parts. It describes the Cut tool, including manual or exact-height cut placement and the option to retain one or both resulting parts.
Plan the seam and assembly
- Choose cut locations deliberately, taking appearance and the shape of the mating surfaces into account.
- Where practical, orient cut faces on the bed. This can make the parts easier to print and join, but the best orientation depends on the model.
- Dry-fit the pieces before joining. Sand mating faces if needed, then use an adhesive suitable for the printed material. The appropriate glue is material-dependent; no particular adhesive is established here.
Splitting can make a model printable on a smaller machine, but it adds joining and finishing work. A larger build volume may avoid some of that work for models that fit; it cannot remove the need to plan seams for models that do not.

Check adhesion and the sliced preview
A large one-piece model can still be vulnerable to bed-adhesion problems. Original Prusa’s MK4S manual says a brim increases bed adhesion and reduces warping risk, particularly for a model with a small bed-contact area. A brim is an aid, not a guarantee of success.
Before exporting a print, inspect the slicer preview to confirm the model is within the build area and that the toolpath looks as intended. The MK4S manual specifically recommends checking the sliced preview before export.

What the available examples do—and do not—show
The listed printer volumes demonstrate that substantially different capacities exist, including two models specified at 300 × 300 × 330 mm and one at 250 × 220 × 270 mm. They do not establish that any particular person upgraded, how much time or money an upgrade saved, or that splitting stopped across all projects. A larger printer can reduce cutting for objects that fit; it is not evidence that every large model will print successfully in one piece.
