The 1P1A approach—“One Page One App”—uses a client-side script to create that manifest and let pages set their identity with optional metadata. But “any web page” is an author’s broad claim, not a guarantee: browser installation support varies, and the specific technique has not been verified across every browser and device.
What 1P1A does
A web app manifest is JSON metadata that can describe an app’s name, icon, start URL and display mode. The conventional approach is to link a manifest file from a page. 1P1A instead describes generating a manifest dynamically as a Data URL, so each page can have its own app-like launch identity. The author’s article says the script can use ojapp:title and ojapp:icon meta tags for page-specific overrides and can be used on static hosts such as GitHub Pages or Cloudflare Pages. These are the author’s implementation claims; the method has not been independently tested here. Original 1P1A article; MDN manifest reference

The author describes the script as a free, client-side, one-line option that requires no registration, backend or build setup. That can make it appealing for someone who controls a page but cannot or does not want to add conventional server-side infrastructure. It does not mean the page’s owner can force another person’s browser to install it, or that every website will accept the script.
What “standalone” means after installation
The manifest’s display field can request an app-like presentation. With "display": "standalone", a supported browser can launch an installed PWA in a dedicated window rather than the usual browser interface. It is a request that applies after installation; it does not turn an ordinary, uninstalled tab into an app or guarantee that a browser will offer installation. MDN: display mode

The perfect combination of performance, power consumption, and value helps your device handle multitasking smoothly and reliably with four processing cores to divide up the work.
Standalone windows may hide familiar browser navigation. For a page that leads to other pages, users may need in-page navigation. MDN also suggests considering minimal-ui when previous/next navigation controls matter. A page intended as a single-purpose launch target may not need those controls, but the display choice should fit how people will use it.
Can you install it on any browser or device?
No universal compatibility guarantee follows from the technique. Installation options and prompts differ by browser, operating system and version, and official browser guidance does not establish that this particular dynamically generated Data URL manifest works in every installation path. Check the actual browser and device you intend to support, then test the page there. MDN: installation of a PWA

- MDN’s guide says Safari supports Add to Dock on macOS Sonoma (Safari 17) and later.
- MDN says Firefox desktop does not support installing PWAs using a manifest file.
- On iOS 16.4 and later, MDN says PWA installation is available through the Share menu in Safari, Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Orion.
- On Android, installation may involve a WebAPK or a browser-badged shortcut; the available behavior depends on the device and browser.
These are the platform details documented in MDN’s guide, and browser support can change. They describe installation support generally, not a compatibility test of the 1P1A script. MDN: browser and platform installation options

| Approach | What it provides | What to account for |
|---|---|---|
| Static linked manifest | A JSON manifest linked from the page, with app metadata such as name, icon, start URL and display mode. | The page or site must serve and link the manifest. |
| Dynamic Data URL manifest | The 1P1A author’s approach generates manifest metadata dynamically and allows page-specific title and icon overrides. | The author’s article does not establish compatibility across browsers, devices or installation paths; test the target setup. |
A site-wide manifest gives the site a shared app identity; per-page metadata aims to make individual pages distinct launch targets. The latter can be useful when users want to save separate tools or content pages, but it is not the same as building a complete multi-page app with navigation and a consistent installed experience.

How to decide whether to use 1P1A
- Consider it if you control the page, want a page-specific title or icon, and are willing to verify behavior in the browsers your visitors use.
- Prefer a conventional linked manifest when you need a documented, site-managed manifest configuration or a shared identity across pages.
- Plan navigation before choosing standalone mode if the launch target leads into a larger site.
- Do not promise that every visitor will see an install prompt or receive the same installation experience.
The approach is best understood as a lightweight way to try page-level app identities—not as a way to override browser installation rules. MDN’s installation guidance and manifest documentation explain the standard concepts, while the 1P1A article supplies the specific script and its author’s claims. 1P1A article; MDN installation guide; MDN manifest reference
