The right alternative depends on what is pushing you to switch: more free booking types, team routing, paid client appointments, a different billing model, group polling, or a booking feature already included in a productivity suite. Identify that constraint first, check the plan you would actually need, and test the full booking and cancellation flow before you change any live links.
Is Calendly free, and what does its free plan cover?
Cal.com’s 2026 comparison guide states that Calendly’s free plan allows one active event type and one calendar connection. That is a competitor’s description, and plan limits change, so confirm the current entitlements on Calendly’s own pricing page before relying on them.

A single active event type is a tight limit for most working schedules. A freelancer with a discovery call, a paid consultation and an internal review slot already needs more than one. Free access is therefore a question of whether your workload fits the limit, not only whether a free tier exists.
The same guide says Cal.com’s free plan includes unlimited event types, while team routing and round robin scheduling depend on a paid tier. Whether any tool is open source is not settled by the comparisons this article draws on, so if self-hosting or open-source code matters to you, check each project’s license directly.

Acuity Scheduling: appointment-based businesses
Acuity is aimed at service businesses that sell appointments. The sources highlight intake forms, packages and in-person payments as relevant features. If your bookings involve prepayment, session packages or questionnaires before a visit, test those flows first. If you are weighing Acuity against Calendly, the comparison turns mainly on appointment-business features rather than on meeting links, and Acuity does not offer an ongoing free plan according to the independent directory cited above.
SavvyCal: one-to-one coordination
SavvyCal lets invitees overlay their own availability on the host’s open slots. That suits meetings where the other person’s calendar matters as much as yours, such as client or partner calls. Product Hunt also lists a Chrome extension workflow among its distinguishing considerations. Confirm that the extension exists on the plan you choose before building a process around it.

Check that the features you depend on, such as multiple event types or integrations, are included in the one-time tier rather than assumed.
Built-in booking in productivity suites
Google Calendar appointment schedules and Microsoft Bookings are worth checking if you already pay for the relevant productivity suite. Eligibility and feature availability differ by account type, and the sources do not present either as free or available to every user. Check your own account settings before assuming access.

Group scheduling: polls and bookings are different jobs
- Polling means participants agree on a time together. Product Hunt highlights meeting polls in zcal, and an independent directory lists Doodle for group-time coordination. Use this when you need several people to choose one slot.
- Booking means one person selects a slot that is open under your availability rules. Use this for one-to-one meetings, client appointments and any case where you control the calendar.
How to compare options
Use these criteria rather than a generic feature count:
- Workflow: one-to-one meeting links, paid client appointments, team routing, or group polls.
- Plan limits: event types, calendars, staff seats, reminders, branding and payment processing on the tier you would actually need.
- Integrations: the calendars, video meeting services, CRM and payment processors your workflow depends on.
- Team needs: round robin, collective bookings, routing forms, permissions and administrative controls.
- Hosting and licensing: if you need self-hosting or open-source code, check each project’s license directly.
- Business requirements: privacy and security review, data-processing documentation, and any agreement required for regulated data. Vendor comparisons are not a substitute for reading a vendor’s current legal and security materials.
- Migration cost: booking links, website embeds, email signatures, reminders, integrations and existing appointments that must be preserved.
Migrating without losing bookings
The following sequence is drawn from Cal.com’s 2026 guide and the same migration logic applies to any tool you move to:

Reading the numbers
Subscription prices are not a market statistic, and this article makes no claim about how many people use any of these tools. Use the figures in the table as a starting point for your own calculation: multiply the per-seat price by the number of people who need access, then compare it with the one-time option or the free tier that matches your event count.
