If you want OLED contrast and a full set of 4K 120Hz gaming features without paying for a premium Samsung OLED, it is a sensible pick. If you need Dolby Vision, a very bright room, or a good sound system out of the box, look harder before you buy.

Picture quality and brightness
The independent review that sets the reference point for this article is TechRadar’s Samsung S85F review. It calls the set a strong, relatively affordable OLED with good picture quality and gaming features. Its verdict on brightness is that it is lower than premium OLED models.
Read that finding carefully. TechRadar tested a UK 65-inch S85F, and its review states that UK and US versions can differ in panel technology. Samsung Australia describes this model as OLED but does not identify its panel subtype. The review therefore describes a UK test unit. It does not confirm the panel, brightness or measurements of the Australian QA65S85FAEXXY.

In practical terms, the set’s OLED contrast is the main reason to buy it. Brightness is the main trade-off. In a room with strong sunlight or bright overhead lighting, the reviewer’s comparison with premium OLEDs suggests the picture will look less punchy than on a brighter flagship. A darker room is where this set makes the most of its contrast.
Gaming features
Samsung lists HDMI support for 4K 120Hz on HDMI 1 to 4. TechRadar’s review reports 4K 120Hz, variable refresh rate (VRR), auto low latency mode (ALLM) and HDR10+ gaming. On its UK test unit, it measured input lag of 9.4ms.

That 9.4ms figure belongs to the reviewer’s tested configuration. It is not a guarantee for every Australian unit. Your result will depend on the source, the picture mode and the cable you use. Set the picture mode to a game mode, enable ALLM on the source, and check that your console or PC is actually outputting 4K 120Hz before you judge the set.
HDR formats and what you can watch
The Australian spec sheet lists HDR10+ Adaptive/Gaming. It does not list Dolby Vision, and TechRadar’s review also reports no Dolby Vision support.
Rank #3
- CERTIFIED REFURBISHED: This manufacturer-refurbished unit shows limited (if any) wear and has been fully tested to deliver the same reliable, like-new performance. It arrives with all essential components and is backed by a 90-day warranty for your peace of mind.
If your library is mostly Dolby Vision titles, this is the most important reason to pass on this model. If you mainly watch HDR10 and HDR10+ content, or play HDR10+ games, the set covers those formats. Before you buy, check which formats your streaming apps, disc player and console deliver.
Built-in sound
The speakers are rated at 20W across two channels. Samsung lists Dolby Atmos, OTS Lite and Q-Symphony. TechRadar describes the built-in sound as average.

- AI MOTION ENHANCER PRO: The AI processor smooths the motion of fast-moving balls and text, reducing blur and flickering, so you don't lose sight of the action.*
For a living room where dialogue and background music matter, plan on an external audio solution. Q-Symphony works with compatible Samsung soundbars. Confirm the exact soundbar model is compatible before buying, because the feature depends on that pairing rather than the TV alone.
