What is known about the OLED iPad mini?
Nothing about a successor is confirmed by Apple in the cited information. On August 24, 2026, MacRumors reported, citing Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, that Apple planned an OLED iPad mini “by the end of October.” That is a reported target, not an official release date. MacRumors’ report also describes richer colors and higher contrast as expected benefits of OLED.

Macworld’s September 29, 2026 roundup called October the likely window while allowing that launch could slip into early 2027, and noted that Apple had not announced a date. Its references to a possible A20 Pro chip, newer connectivity, and other changes are rumors or expectations, not product specifications. Macworld’s rumor roundup does not establish the successor’s final price, brightness, refresh rate, battery life, or real-world advantage.

It is also the straightforward choice if its LCD suits you and you prefer to buy against published specifications rather than unknown successor details. Wait if OLED is the feature you care about most
If deeper blacks and higher contrast are a meaningful reason to upgrade, waiting for Apple’s announcement lets you judge the actual display and price instead of relying on a rumor. Waiting also preserves the option to compare the announced model with the current mini; it does not guarantee that the successor will arrive in October or meet every expectation.
Decide how much price uncertainty you can accept
