To make your phone battery last longer between charges, lower screen brightness, shorten screen timeout, turn on your phone’s low-power mode, check for apps using unusual amounts of power, switch off hotspot or tethering when you are not using it, and keep the phone cool. These steps can reduce drain, but no setting guarantees a fixed number of extra hours: actual runtime depends on the phone, its battery condition, network conditions, and how you use it.
Start with the screen
The display is an easy place to cut power use without changing how the phone works in major ways. Try these adjustments first:

- Lower brightness. Use a lower manual brightness or enable adaptive brightness if it suits your needs.
- Shorten screen timeout. Choose a shorter interval so the display turns off sooner when you set the phone down.
- Turn off display features you do not need. On supported Pixel phones, Google lists Always-on Display and Smooth Display among the settings to review. Dark theme is another option to try where available.
Menu names and availability vary by phone and Android version. Google’s Pixel battery guidance covers these options for Pixel devices.

On iPhone and iPad
Apple’s Low Power Mode reduces power use by limiting some features and background activity. It reduces brightness, sets Auto-Lock to 30 seconds, turns off Background App Refresh, and pauses some tasks, including iCloud Photos temporarily. Automatic downloads and email fetch are also turned off while the mode is active. Notifications or background updates may therefore be delayed.

On iPhone 15 and later, go to Settings > Battery > Power Mode and turn on Low Power Mode. On iPhone 14 and earlier, go to Settings > Battery. Apple says Low Power Mode turns off when the device reaches 80% charge or higher. See Apple’s Low Power Mode instructions.
On Pixel and other Android phones
Use the phone’s Battery settings to find its power-saving mode; the exact label and path depend on the model and Android version. For Pixel phones, Google also recommends Adaptive Battery and keeping app battery optimization enabled. Some of Google’s advice applies only to Android 11 and later. Consult Google’s Pixel battery guidance for model-specific details.

Find and limit apps that drain power
Open your phone’s battery-use screen and look for apps consuming unusually high power, particularly when you have not been actively using them. Address the apps that stand out rather than disabling background activity across the board: some apps need it for functions such as timely messages or updates. On Pixel, Google recommends reviewing Battery usage and keeping app optimization on.
Switch off idle connections and features
Turn off hotspot or tethering when no other device needs the phone’s connection. The same principle applies to power-hungry features you have enabled for a particular task: disable them when you are finished. Check your device’s own settings and battery-use information to decide what is useful to switch off.

Keep the phone from getting too hot
Heat can increase battery drain even when the phone is idle. Google warns that a hot Pixel drains faster, and that this can damage the battery. Avoid leaving the phone in hot surroundings or using it in conditions that make it excessively warm. Temperature history also contributes to chemical aging, according to Apple’s charging and battery guidance.

Power-saving mode, display adjustments, and managing background or hotspot use target current power consumption. Charging features such as optimized charging and charge limits serve a different purpose: they reduce time spent fully charged or otherwise limit charging to help preserve battery lifespan. They do not add charge for today. Google says Pixel 6a and later support an 80% charge limit and advises turning it off when you need a full charge for longer immediate runtime. Apple says optimized charging can delay charging past 80% in certain situations; on iPhone 15 and later, Charge Limit can be set from 80% to 100% in 5% steps. Why 10,000mAh does not predict a set number of hours
A 10,000mAh label alone is not enough to calculate how long a phone will last. Runtime also depends on screen use, apps and background activity, network conditions, temperature, and battery age. The manufacturer guidance cited here does not establish a universal runtime estimate or a fixed number of extra hours for any of these changes.
