Percy says it displays fixed or sticky elements only once per screenshot. If the header is visibly cropped where it appears, or page content is missing, investigate overflow and capture setup separately.
First, check whether Percy is behaving as designed
BrowserStack’s Percy documentation says: “Percy stabilizes sticky elements by displaying them only once per screenshot.” Fixed or sticky headers and footers generally appear at the top rather than repeating at each scroll position. A header absent from later sections of the image is therefore not, by itself, evidence that Percy cut it off. BrowserStack: Handle sticky elements.
Look closely at the header’s first appearance. If it is shown intact and only once, the result is consistent with Percy’s documented treatment. If it is cropped, missing where it should appear, or accompanied by missing page content, continue with the checks below.
Identify the capture workflow and its bounds
Percy Web or Percy with Automate
Full-page screenshots are the default for Percy Web projects. For Percy with Automate, BrowserStack documents enabling full-page capture with the fullPage option. The exact setting does not apply to App Percy, which is a separate mobile-app workflow.

Check the documented length limits
BrowserStack’s Percy with Automate documentation lists a desktop maximum of 10,000 pixels or 10 tiles, whichever is smaller, and a mobile maximum of 10 tiles. These are documented service limits; confirm the current limits in the docs when configuring a capture. A page near or beyond the limit may not be represented in full. Fix actual clipping from overflow
When content is cut off, inspect the page’s ancestor elements for CSS that clips overflow. BrowserStack recommends finding the element responsible and resetting that specific CSS with Percy CSS. Its example is:

- Wait for page readiness. In Percy with Automate, capture after the page has loaded.
- Trigger lazy-loaded content. If content appears only as the visitor scrolls, scroll to the bottom before capture so it can load.
- Control moving content. Pause animations, video, or carousels that change the page while Percy captures it.
- Handle popups and consent state. Close or otherwise handle popups that obstruct the page. If the test requires a particular cookie-banner state, accept or reject the banner before capture as appropriate.
- Check scroll position. BrowserStack’s troubleshooting guidance recommends scrolling the driver to the correct page location when full-page content is incorrect.
For a reproducible visual test, set the same readiness, scroll, animation, and banner state each run. BrowserStack’s docs cover dynamic data handling and full-page captures.
Check internal scroll containers and problematic elements
A page may scroll inside a panel rather than through the document. If Percy’s full-page result omits content inside such an internal scroll area, BrowserStack advises making that container fully scrollable for Percy using Percy CSS. If one particular element makes the image incorrect, its troubleshooting guidance also suggests hiding that element with Percy CSS—only do so when removing it matches the intended test. Use this diagnostic sequence
- Confirm whether the project is Percy Web or Percy with Automate; for Automate, verify that full-page capture is enabled with
fullPage. - Compare the image with the expected sticky behavior: a header displayed once at the top and not repeated is consistent with Percy’s documentation.
- If the header itself is cropped or content is absent, inspect ancestor overflow styles and apply a Percy CSS override to the element actually responsible.
- Make the capture deterministic: wait for page load, scroll far enough to trigger lazy content, stabilize animations and popups, and set the intended cookie-banner state.
- For nested scrolling, make the internal container fully scrollable in Percy. Check viewport and browser differences, and compare screenshot length with the documented limits.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Percy repeat a sticky header throughout a full-page screenshot?
No. Percy documents showing fixed or sticky elements only once per screenshot, generally at the top.
