That tradeoff can make Brave the more convenient fit, but the available evidence does not establish that it is universally faster, more private, or more secure in everyday use.
What changes when you switch from Firefox to Brave?
The main difference is how each browser approaches blocking and customization. Brave says its default setup blocks third-party ads, cross-site trackers, and third-party cookies, and includes fingerprinting protections. Those are features Brave describes on its own comparison page, not independent proof that Brave is categorically more private.

Mozilla says Firefox for Android includes tracking protection and supports extensions that can block ads and protect privacy. That gives Firefox users a way to add tools and adjust behavior rather than relying only on the browser’s built-in setup.

Brave: blocking is built in
If you want ad and tracker blocking without first choosing and configuring an extension, Brave’s default setup may be more convenient. Brave says the browser is free to use; its FAQ says users do not need to pay to block third-party ads and tracking. Brave also discloses that it may show privacy-preserving first-party ads in the browser and Brave Search. Browser ads can be turned off; Search ads are separate. Brave FAQ

Firefox: protection plus Android extensions
Firefox is the better fit if you depend on an add-on or want to choose how to extend the browser. Before switching, check whether the specific extension you use is currently available on Android and whether it behaves as you need there; Mozilla’s general support for Android extensions does not establish that every desktop add-on is available or works identically. What if Brave blocking breaks a website?
Mozilla’s comparison warns that Brave’s default ad blocking may break websites and require adjustment. If a page does not work as expected, you may need to change Brave’s protection setting for that site. This is a compatibility tradeoff to weigh against the convenience of having blocking enabled by default, not evidence that every site will have problems. Mozilla’s Brave comparison

Do Brave’s speed and battery claims settle the choice?
No. Brave reports that its Android benchmark used a Pixel 6a, default browser settings, a workload of 100 URLs based on its search statistics, and ten runs. For that workload, Brave measured 557.68 mAh total energy use and reported about 3.9% less energy on average than Chrome, Edge, and Firefox, as well as about 5.5% less CPU on average than those browsers. These are Brave’s company-run results, not a guarantee of better battery life or speed on another phone or with a different mix of sites and settings. Brave’s Android performance benchmark

Ad and tracker blocking should not be treated as a complete security comparison. Brave’s help documentation says Android Safe Browsing uses a smaller phishing-site list than desktop and that download protection is not available on mobile. The same documentation characterizes its website protection as equivalent to Firefox, Safari, and Chrome. Assess the security features you need separately from ad blocking. Which Android browser should you choose?
- Choose Brave if your priority is having ad and tracker blocking enabled by default and you are willing to adjust settings if a site misbehaves.
- Stay with Firefox if you rely on a particular Android extension or prefer to customize protection and browser behavior with add-ons.
- Do not switch on benchmark figures alone. Brave’s reported battery and CPU results describe a specific company-run test workload, not your expected day-to-day experience.
The practical tipping point is convenience versus customization: Brave makes built-in blocking central to its default experience, while Firefox offers a route to tailor the browser with extensions. Which matters more depends on the add-ons and sites you use; the available evidence does not support claiming a personal hands-on result or a universal winner.
