The best keyboard for your iPad Air depends on whether you want an integrated case and trackpad, a detachable keyboard, or a lightweight Bluetooth keyboard you carry separately. Apple’s Magic Keyboard for iPad Air and Logitech’s Combo Touch are the strongest supported keyboard-case choices here, but neither is a universal fit: identify your Air’s screen size and generation before buying.
Start by identifying your iPad Air model
Check the model name and screen size in Settings or on the device packaging before choosing a keyboard case. Similar screen sizes do not guarantee compatible cases: Apple lists separate Magic Keyboard families for iPad Air and iPad Pro, and case fit depends on the exact product variant.

Apple lists its current Magic Keyboard for iPad Air family for 11-inch and 13-inch M2, M3, and M4 iPad Air models, as well as supported Air 4th- and 5th-generation models. Logitech’s current Combo Touch range lists 11-inch and 13-inch M2, M3, and M4 variants. Check the compatibility table and the exact size and generation on the product listing before ordering: Apple’s iPad keyboard compatibility guide and Logitech’s Combo Touch listing.

Which iPad Air keyboard should you choose?
| Option | Best suited to | What the cited sources establish | Check before buying |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple Magic Keyboard for iPad Air | An integrated keyboard case with trackpad and function row | Apple’s 13-inch specification lists a 14-key function row, a large glass trackpad, USB-C pass-through charging, and a floating cantilever design with multiple viewing angles. It folds around the tablet for front and back protection. | Exact Air size and generation, and the applicable iPadOS requirement. |
| Logitech Combo Touch for iPad Air | A detachable keyboard with folio-style case coverage | Logitech describes a backlit keyboard and precise trackpad. Macworld reports that the keyboard detaches and the folio case offers edge protection. | Exact Air size and generation variant; current price and availability in your region. |
| Standalone Bluetooth keyboard | A separate keyboard for readers who prioritize carrying the keyboard apart from the iPad case | Apple’s iPad keyboard listings include Logitech Keys-To-Go 2, and Macworld notes that Bluetooth keyboards can connect to iPad. | Layout, connection and power needs, whether you need a stand or case, and whether a trackpad is important. |
Apple Magic Keyboard: the integrated setup
The Magic Keyboard is the more integrated choice if you want the keyboard and trackpad attached to the iPad as a single working setup. Apple’s 13-inch specification lists a 14-key function row, a large glass trackpad, USB-C pass-through charging, and a floating cantilever design with multiple viewing angles. The case folds around the tablet for front and back protection. These are Apple’s stated features, not a standardized comparative test of typing comfort.
Choose this route if an attached trackpad and adjustable viewing angles matter more to you than detaching the keyboard. Check Apple’s compatibility page for your specific Air model; the 13-inch product specification also requires iPadOS 18.3 or later. Apple’s cited spec page identifies that 13-inch product as introduced in 2025, which is a detail about that product page, not a date for every Magic Keyboard.

Logitech Combo Touch: detachable keyboard and folio
Combo Touch suits readers who want to remove the keyboard while continuing to use the folio case. Logitech specifies backlighting and a trackpad; Macworld reports keyboard detachment and edge coverage from the folio. That makes it a different design tradeoff from an always-attached keyboard case.

Macworld presents Combo Touch as a lower-priced alternative to Apple’s Magic Keyboard, but prices and stock vary by retailer and region. Compare the current listing for your exact iPad Air variant rather than relying on an old price. Logitech’s feature descriptions are manufacturer claims, while Macworld’s comments are editorial assessment rather than a standardized typing test.
When a standalone Bluetooth keyboard makes more sense
A separate Bluetooth keyboard is worth considering if you prefer a lighter, more flexible arrangement and do not need the keyboard built into a protective case. Apple lists Logitech Keys-To-Go 2 among iPad keyboard options, and Bluetooth keyboards can connect to iPad. This route does not provide the same integrated case-and-trackpad setup as the keyboard cases above.

What “best rated” can—and cannot—mean
Editorial roundups from Macworld and Tom’s Guide offer assessments and product picks, while RTINGS provides additional compatibility and comparison context. The sources cited here do not establish a single standardized rating across all iPad Air keyboards, or a universal winner for typing speed, comfort, durability, or satisfaction. Treat “best” as a match for your model and priorities, not as proof that one keyboard is objectively highest-rated.

For a final choice, weigh fit first, then the features that affect your setup: key layout and feel, backlighting, trackpad inclusion and size, whether the keyboard detaches, case coverage, connection and power, portability, and current local price. Apple’s product specifications, Logitech’s listing, and independent editorial comparisons describe different aspects; none supplies a common test that settles every tradeoff.
