Atlas is aimed at factory work and is still being developed and field-tested with Hyundai; Digit has the clearer record of customer-site use in logistics. The comparison needs one important distinction: Agility’s published payload and endurance estimates describe Digit 5, which is in development, while its reported operating hours and GXO deployment refer to Digit 4. The available company sources do not establish a head-to-head winner.
Atlas vs. Digit at a glance
| Comparison | Boston Dynamics Atlas | Agility Robotics Digit |
|---|---|---|
| Current evidence | All-electric platform in development; Boston Dynamics says it is field-testing real-world sequencing tasks with Hyundai. Boston Dynamics | Digit 4 has company-reported customer-site operations and a GXO service agreement. Digit 5 is in development. Agility Robotics |
| Stated work | Hyundai’s announced plan starts with parts sequencing, followed by component assembly. Hyundai Motor Group | Reported logistics work includes tote handling in a warehouse. Agility also targets manufacturing, warehousing, and distribution. Agility Robotics and GXO |
| Published reach | 2.3 m (7.5 ft), according to Boston Dynamics. | Digit 5: 2.2 m (7.2 ft), a preliminary Agility estimate. |
| Published payload | Not stated on the cited Atlas product page. | Digit 5: 23 kg (50 lb), a preliminary Agility estimate. |
| Endurance figures | Not stated in the cited Atlas sources. | Digit 5: a 10:1 run-to-charge ratio and up to 20 work hours in a 24-hour period, preliminary Agility estimates. |
Those figures are not a controlled comparison. They cover different product generations and evidence types, and neither robot’s stated reach alone establishes which can do more useful work in a particular facility.

What Atlas is designed to do
Boston Dynamics describes the current Atlas as an all-electric humanoid and lists a reach of 2.3 m (7.5 ft). The company says Atlas has begun field testing at a Hyundai customer facility on real-world sequencing tasks. That is evidence of field testing, not a published production-throughput result. The public case for Atlas is therefore centered on prospective manufacturing use, especially sequencing and later assembly in Hyundai’s factories. The cited Atlas sources do not state a comparable payload, runtime, unit price, production uptime, or independent safety result.
What Digit is designed to do
Digit 4: reported operating experience
Agility says Digit 4 has logged more than 65,000 operational hours across customer sites, naming GXO, Schaeffler, Amazon, and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada. The company also reports that Digit 4 moved a cumulative 100,000 totes at GXO’s Flowery Branch facility. These are Agility-reported figures, not independent audits. In June 2024, Agility and GXO announced a multi-year Robots-as-a-Service agreement following a proof-of-concept pilot. Their announcement describes Digit and Agility Arc in GXO logistics operations, including a SPANX facility where Digit was integrated with existing automation such as autonomous mobile robots. This gives Digit a named commercial logistics case; it does not by itself establish results across all warehouses or facilities. Agility Robotics and GXO agreement

Digit 5: preliminary published specifications
Agility’s Digit 5 page lists a 23 kg (50 lb) payload, 2.2 m (7.2 ft) reach, a 10:1 run-to-charge ratio, and up to 20 work hours in a 24-hour period. Agility labels Digit 5 as in development and says its specifications, capabilities, designs, and some safety features may change. The company describes the figures as preliminary estimates based on internal testing and benchmarking of pre-production configurations, not guaranteed field performance. Agility Robotics Digit 5

Factory sequencing versus warehouse material handling
The clearest use-case distinction is the work each company has publicly connected to its platform. Hyundai’s Atlas roadmap is about parts sequencing and later component assembly in manufacturing. Digit’s documented GXO case is logistics work involving tote movement and integration into a live warehouse environment. A buyer should start with the actual task and facility workflow, rather than treating “humanoid” as proof that either platform can substitute for workers across a whole site.

Deployment maturity and evidence
Atlas has a field-testing statement and future Hyundai milestones. Digit has Agility-reported Digit 4 operating history at customer sites and a multi-year GXO agreement, while Digit 5 remains in development. Those are meaningfully different maturity signals, but they are not equivalent metrics: planned factory milestones cannot be compared numerically with cumulative operating hours, and neither establishes a head-to-head performance advantage.

Specifications and integration
The available specification comparison is incomplete. Atlas’s cited page gives reach but not payload or endurance; Digit 5’s page offers both, but as preliminary vendor estimates. Do not read Atlas’s missing figures as evidence of inferior performance, or Digit 5’s estimates as verified production results.
Integration is also site-specific. GXO’s announcement describes Digit being incorporated alongside existing automation, while Agility says Digit 5 is designed to integrate with warehouse systems. That does not guarantee plug-and-play operation: a facility still needs to assess workflow fit, system interfaces, safety procedures, and operational support. The cited material does not provide comparable integration time or cost data.
Which robot is the better fit?
- For a Hyundai factory sequencing roadmap: Atlas is the platform Hyundai says it is field-testing for real-world sequencing, with parts sequencing planned from 2028 and component assembly by 2030.
- For a logistics comparison grounded in customer-site history: Digit has the stronger public evidence in the cited sources, specifically Digit 4’s reported operations and GXO agreement.
- For a spec-sheet comparison: Digit 5 has more published figures, but they are preliminary estimates. The available Atlas sources do not disclose matching payload or endurance figures.
- For choosing a platform at a specific site: request task-level demonstrations and comparable data on throughput, uptime, safety, integration requirements, service model, and total cost. The cited sources do not settle those questions.
Neither the available figures nor the deployment announcements prove that one robot is universally more capable. The more defensible distinction is that Atlas’s cited story is a developing factory program, while Digit’s is a logistics platform with reported Digit 4 operations and a still-developing Digit 5.
