Bose SoundLink Micro 2: Is This Pocket Speaker Worth $99?

The Bose SoundLink Micro 2 is a compact, IP67-rated mono speaker with a Bose estimate of up to 12 hours per charge. It sinks rather than floats, and its value depends on how much you prize its size and strap.

The Bose SoundLink Micro (2nd Gen) is a genuinely small, rugged Bluetooth speaker with mono playback, USB-C charging and an IP67 rating. Bose estimates up to 12 hours of battery life, but the speaker does not float. At the $99 price shown on Bose’s U.S. listing on October 7, 2026, its appeal is portability and Bose’s sound tuning; its drawback is that less expensive alternatives may offer a stronger value.

What you get with the SoundLink Micro 2

This is the second generation of Bose’s SoundLink Micro. Bose lists Bluetooth 5.4, mono playback, USB-C charging, a utility strap and IP67 dust and water protection. Its specified Bluetooth range is up to 30 feet (9 meters). The USB-C port is for charging; Bose says USB audio is not supported. The speaker has no microphone, so it is not a speakerphone.

Bose’s U.S. product page showed a price of $99 and an original price of $129 when accessed October 7, 2026. Those are a dated listing snapshot, not a promise of today’s price; check Bose’s current U.S. product listing before buying. TechRadar reported a U.S. launch price of $129 in its March 22, 2026 review, alongside launch prices of £119.95 in the UK and AU$179.95 in Australia. Those historical figures are not current prices for every region.

How good is the sound, and who is it for?

The small size is the point: the Micro is suited to someone who wants a speaker that is easy to carry and attach, rather than a larger model designed to fill a room. TechRadar’s March 2026 review describes its audio as balanced and calls the second generation an improvement, while questioning the premium over cheaper options. Tom’s Guide, in a September 25, 2026 review, also praises the balance and portability but points to less expensive speakers with comparable sound and longer battery life. These are the outlets’ listening judgments, not Bose specifications or independent listening tests conducted for this article.

Bose SoundLink Micro Portable Bluetooth Speaker (2nd Gen), Wireless Outdoor Speaker, Up to 12 Hours Battery Life, Waterproof and Dustproof, Black
  • SURPRISINGLY POWERFUL SOUND: SoundLink Micro’s crisp sound and impressive bass allows you to use this mini wireless speaker to break through any silence and form an in-the-moment connection.
  • ULTRA-PORTABLE SIZE: The SoundLink Micro Speaker is designed to be ultra portable. A pocketable size and an improved utility strap mean you can attach the small Bluetooth speaker to a bag, slip it in a pocket, or play it from the palm of your hand.
  • DURABLE DESIGN: A rugged, tiny-but-tough design means the SoundLink Micro Portable Speaker (2nd Gen) is built to bounce back. It’s dust and waterproof (rated IP67) and shock and rust resistant — so this small waterproof speaker can play rain or shine.
  • UP TO 12 HOURS OF EXTENDED BATTERY: With double the battery life of the original SoundLink Micro, you can keep the connection going for up to 12 hours of your day.
  • ADVANCED BLUETOOTH CONNECTIVITY: With an extended range of up to 30 feet and increased bandwidth, Bluetooth now brings you better connectivity over previous versions.

The practical trade-off is straightforward: consider it if minimal size, a strap and a rugged build matter more to you than getting the most features or battery life for the money. If your priority is value, compare current prices and the specific size, battery and mounting needs before paying the Bose premium.

How long does the battery last?

Bose rates the battery for up to 12 hours per charge. That is a manufacturer estimate, not a guaranteed runtime. Bose’s stated test conditions include Bluetooth A2DP audio at 50% volume, default EQ, a temperature of 68–77°F (20–25°C), and a mix of Top 50 Global tracks as of November 2024. Bose says actual performance varies with the audio, volume and temperature.

For context, TechRadar’s comparison lists the JBL Clip 5 at 12 hours and the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 4 at 14 hours, with IP67 ratings for both. Treat those as comparison figures reported in that March 2026 review, not as a fresh, controlled head-to-head test. Battery life matters most if you expect long outings between charges; the Micro’s 12-hour claim is an upper estimate under Bose’s stated conditions.

Is it waterproof, and does it float?

Bose rates the SoundLink Micro 2 IP67 for dust and water protection, but that rating does not mean the speaker floats. Bose states explicitly: “The SoundLink Micro (2nd Gen) will sink, but it does not float.” Do not treat it as a floating pool speaker or rely on being able to retrieve it from the surface. See Bose’s product details and FAQ for its own water-related guidance.

Charging and what is in the box

Bose includes a USB-C-to-A cable, but not a power adapter, so you will need a compatible USB power source if you do not already have one. Bose’s UK support specification says a full charge from empty takes four hours with a 1.5A (7.5W) supply; a U.S. product listing gives three hours. Because Bose’s pages conflict, neither figure should be treated as a universal charge time. The included cable and charging details are listed on Bose’s product page and support specifications.

SoundLink Micro 2 vs. small alternatives

The JBL Clip 5 and Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 4 are relevant alternatives if you are comparing compact, water-resistant speakers. The available comparison figures below come from TechRadar’s March 22, 2026 review; they are not a current price survey or a same-method independent test. The comparison does not establish that one is universally better: the right choice depends on how much you value the Bose’s compact, strap-equipped form against battery claims and price.

See TechRadar’s review for its assessment and comparison. Tom’s Guide’s September 25, 2026 review likewise frames the main concern as value against cheaper speakers, rather than a lack of portability or balanced sound.

Verdict: should you buy it?

The SoundLink Micro 2 makes the most sense when pocketable size, a mounting strap and IP67-rated construction are the deciding features. Its claimed battery life is respectable but not a guarantee, and its IP67 rating does not make it buoyant. At Bose’s $99 U.S. listing snapshot, value is the main question: check the live price and compare it with the Clip 5 and Wonderboom 4 if longer battery claims or spending less matter more than choosing this Bose form factor.
