If a Black Ops 7 Zombies relic unlock is not tracking, do not assume you missed a step. Relic progression has had several acknowledged bugs, and Save and Quit or a reload can reset the side-quest state. Update the game, restart it, then repeat the entire relic setup, portal activation and trial in one uninterrupted match. Stay in the match until the relic award appears and the menu reflects the unlock.
This sequence is the most reliable recovery because current guidance indicates that relic progress may not persist through Save and Quit. If a clean run on the latest build still fails, document the exact trigger and report it through Activision’s support and bug-report channels.

What to do first when a relic unlock is missing
- Update Black Ops 7. Install every available game update before attempting another trial. Check Activision’s Black Ops 7 support hub and its current known-issues page. A problem that is not listed there should be submitted through the official bug-report form.
- Close and restart the game. A full restart clears a session that may have retained a broken quest state. Do not immediately resume a suspended or saved Zombies match for the recovery attempt.
- Start a fresh match. Use a new run rather than loading the match in which the relic failed. Complete the map-side setup, activate the relic portal, finish the trial and wait for the award and menu update.
- Do not use Save and Quit during the sequence. Current Zombies guidance says the side quest and trial need to be completed in one sitting because relic progress is not reliably saved. Community reports also describe reloads resetting or breaking individual steps.
- Record what happened if it fails again. Note the platform, map, relic, round, exact step, whether Save and Quit was used, and any missing prompt, portal or reward. Those details make an official report actionable.
These steps are a recovery procedure, not a guarantee that every defect is fixed locally. Several relic problems required patches, so a repeat failure can indicate a version-specific bug rather than an input mistake.
Why BO7 relic progress can disappear
Save and Quit can reset the quest state
The most important limitation is persistence. Relic side-quest progress may not survive Save and Quit, and reloading can leave a later trigger unavailable even when earlier actions were completed. For that reason, treat the setup, portal and trial as one transaction: begin from a new match and continue until the unlock is visibly awarded.

A reload is especially risky when the failure involves a portal that no longer appears, an interaction prompt that vanishes, or a trial counter that stops moving. Repeating only the last step after loading an old save may not repair the underlying state; restart the full sequence instead.
Some failures are tied to one trigger
Patch notes identify defects that occur only after a particular action. Examples include Pack-a-Punching the pistol before the Seed Relic portal condition, Focusing Stone wine bottles failing to appear, Blood Vials becoming non-functional after a reload, and Golden Spork trial progression stopping. A generic checklist cannot compensate for a trigger-specific defect on an unpatched build.
The installed build matters
Relic behavior changed across Seasons 02 through 05 in 2026. Season 03 addressed Dragon Head and Rocket Relic problems, Season 04 addressed additional save and progression behavior, and Season 05 addressed Bus Relic Trial kills. If the game has not downloaded those updates, an instruction that works on a current build may not work on yours.

Relic systems have had broader instability
Treyarch acknowledged that some previously working Zombies systems had begun behaving unpredictably: “We’re tracking some recent issues with a handful of Augments that worked previously but temporarily acted strangely, or just plain stopped working altogether.” That statement does not identify every relic defect, but it explains why a reproducible failure is not automatically evidence that the player performed the objective incorrectly.
Run the relic sequence again without losing progress
Use this order for a clean recovery. The map-specific setup can differ, so follow the objective prompts for the relic you are attempting rather than substituting a different trial.
- Confirm the build before matchmaking. Finish pending downloads and restart after the update. If the known-issues list names your relic or trigger, read the listed workaround or wait for the relevant fix before spending another long run.
- Launch a fresh Zombies match. Do not select Save and Quit during this attempt. Avoid resuming a suspended application or loading a prior checkpoint, since the purpose of this run is to create a new quest state.
- Complete every map-side setup objective. Perform the interactions that prepare the relic quest in the order shown by the game. If an expected object, bottle, portal or prompt is absent, stop and note the round and step instead of improvising a different order.
- Activate the relic portal. Confirm that the portal actually opens before entering the trial. A portal that never spawns is a progression failure to document, not a sign that repeatedly circling the area will unlock it.
- Finish the complete relic trial. Satisfy the trial’s stated requirement without leaving the match. For a Bus Relic Trial, for example, kills made with a Psych Grenade were specifically affected by a Season 05 defect, so verify that the relevant counter is increasing while you work.
- Remain in the match after the final objective. Wait for the relic award or completion feedback, then open the relevant menu and confirm that the unlock is present. Leaving as soon as the last enemy dies can make it unclear whether the award was processed.
- Capture evidence if the unlock is still absent. A short clip or screenshots showing the completed objective, missing award and menu state can support a bug report. Include the exact sequence and whether the portal appeared.
This uninterrupted procedure is inferred from the documented non-persistence and reload defects. It is safer than mixing a saved run with a new attempt because every prerequisite is established in the same session.

The season labels identify when the fixes were published, not a promise that every related symptom is solved on every platform. A later patch can change behavior again, so the installed version and the current known-issues list are part of the diagnosis.

Choose the right recovery approach

When the relic portal never spawns
First separate a setup omission from a broken trigger. Re-entering the area repeatedly is useful only if the map still shows an unfinished prerequisite. If every map-side requirement has been completed and the portal remains absent, restart from a fresh match on the latest build and perform the setup in one sitting.
- Write down the relic name and map.
- Record the round when each prerequisite was completed.
- Note whether the portal appeared at any point.
- Record actions that may be trigger-sensitive, such as Pack-a-Punching the Seed Relic pistol or saving before a Dragon Head portal.
- Capture the missing prompt or portal location if possible.
If the same portal fails on a clean, updated run, treat it as a reproducible defect and escalate it instead of repeatedly consuming attempts.

How to verify that an unlock actually counted
Do not rely on memory of the final objective alone. The useful confirmation is two-part: the game shows the relic award or completion feedback in the match, and the relevant menu reflects the unlock afterward. If one appears without the other, record which one is missing.
A missing menu entry after a visible award can indicate delayed or failed progression processing. A missing award means the trial may not have completed, a trigger may have failed, or the build may contain an unresolved defect. In either case, avoid Save and Quit until the state is clear; the reload itself can remove evidence of what happened.

Use Activision’s Black Ops 7 support hub for current advisories and its bug-report form for an issue that remains after an updated, uninterrupted run. The report should be specific enough for the team to reproduce the state.

- Map and relic name.
- Season or game version shown by the installed client.
- Round and approximate time of the failure.
- Every setup action, including the action immediately before the portal or counter failed.
- Whether the match was solo or a public Cursed match.
- Whether Save and Quit, a reload or an application restart occurred.
- What was missing: portal, object, interaction prompt, trial counter, award or menu unlock.
- Any error message, clip or screenshot.
Activision advises submitting issues that are absent from the known-issues list. Reporting a clean reproduction after the latest patch also helps distinguish an old fixed defect from a regression or a new trigger.
What the broader Cursed-mode numbers mean
Call of Duty and Treyarch reported that 33% of Zombies players had tried Cursed by 2026. That figure indicates substantial participation, but it is not a failure rate and does not measure how many players experienced missing relic progress. No reliable public statistic establishes the proportion of relic unlock attempts that fail, so individual troubleshooting should rely on the exact symptom and game version rather than a presumed incidence rate.
Bottom line for a missing BO7 relic
Update the game, restart it and repeat the complete map-side setup, portal activation and relic trial from a fresh match without Save and Quit. Stay until both the award and menu update are visible. Check the relic-specific Season 02–05 fixes, then report a reproducible failure with platform, map, relic, round, trigger and save history through Activision’s support route.
