Block unknown or unspecified callers
In Phone > More options > Settings > Block numbers, look for Block calls from unknown numbers. Turn it on only if the option appears and you want this broader filter.
Blocking unknown callers can also stop wanted calls from numbers you have not saved, such as a doctor’s office, delivery driver, or someone calling from a new number. If you are expecting an important call, consider blocking only specific numbers instead.

Use caller ID and spam protection
Some Galaxy phones offer Caller ID and spam protection in Phone settings. Samsung’s Smart Call can identify callers who are not in your contacts and may offer options to block or report a suspected spam call. Samsung notes that Smart Call is not available on every model or carrier; check the settings on your phone rather than assuming the feature is included.
Where supported, you may see a Block spam and scam calls control with options to block all identified spam or scam calls, or only calls marked high-risk. The broader setting may stop more unwanted calls, but filters can also catch calls you want. Read the descriptions shown on your device before selecting an option. See Samsung’s Smart Call instructions and its Smart Call feature information.

AI Scam detection has a specific requirement
Samsung says AI Scam detection is available only on Galaxy devices running Android 16 with One UI 8.5 or higher. If an eligible phone detects a potential scam, it alerts you so you can choose to block or answer. This is not a general feature of all Galaxy phones. Samsung’s AI Scam detection guide explains the feature.
What blocking and spam labels do—and do not do
A caller ID label such as “spam” or “scam likely” is a warning, not necessarily a block; the call may still ring. A blocked call, by contrast, is filtered by the phone or service. Neither identification nor blocking is perfect, and a filter can stop a legitimate call. The Federal Trade Commission puts it plainly: “Just know that call-blocking services might block some calls you want.”

If an expected call does not arrive, check voicemail and your blocked-call list. You may need to remove the number from the list or adjust the filter. The FTC’s guide to blocking unwanted calls also covers call labels and carrier options.
When Galaxy settings are not enough
Ask your carrier about call filtering
Carriers may offer additional call identification or blocking, with availability and eligibility depending on the carrier and plan. Ask your own provider what its current service does and how to enable it. For example, T-Mobile describes its Scam ID and Scam Block features; those are carrier services, not universal Samsung settings.

Handle suspected scams safely
Do not rely on caller ID to verify a caller claiming to represent a bank, government agency, or other organization. Hang up and contact the organization using a number from a trusted source, such as its official website or the back of your card.
