Each route creates different exposure to sightlines and grenade pressure, so use the layout to choose when to advance and when to hold.
Where Paranoia takes place and how it is laid out
Activision sets Paranoia in the halls of Arceo Medical, rendered as a psychological nightmare inside Mason’s mind. The named areas that matter for orientation are the middle path, Reception, the Waiting Room, the Shattered and ER Corridors, and the upper Walkway. Activision describes it as a small map designed exclusively for Face Off.

The middle is the larger route. The Shattered and ER Corridors run parallel to it, giving players a flank that avoids the Walkway’s sightlines. From above, the Walkway overlooks Reception and the Waiting Room. That makes the map’s key movement decision a tradeoff between the direct middle, the less exposed corridor route, and the elevated angle.
Choose a route based on the angle you want to avoid
Middle path: take the larger route with care
The middle offers a direct way through the map, but it is not the corridor flank Activision identifies as avoiding the Walkway’s sightlines. Before crossing, account for the elevated position and nearby grenade pressure rather than treating the route as a safe sprint.

Shattered and ER Corridors: flank around the Walkway sightline
Use the parallel corridors when you want to approach without taking the Walkway’s stated sightline. Large obstacles sit in the middle of this corridor route. Activision suggests a shotgun for eliminating enemies on the other side; that is a situational recommendation, not a claim that shotguns are the best weapon choice overall.
Upper Walkway: watch the rooms below and manage cover
The Walkway overlooks both Reception and the Waiting Room, giving its occupant a view over those spaces. If engaging someone above, Activision recommends using the high walls on either side to control the angle. Those walls are thin enough for shots to pierce through, so use the thicker waist-high cover at either end when returning fire.

Use Reception and the Waiting Room as deliberate positions
The small rear rooms in Reception and the Waiting Room can serve two purposes: routes back into the wider map, or positions from which to target opponents pushing toward a spawn. Activision notes that these positions can disadvantage opponents relying on close-quarters weapons. They are not a reason to stay planted indefinitely; consider whether the room gives you a useful angle or simply leaves you waiting for a push.

Prepare for grenades and neurotoxic gas
Build for grenade pressure
Activision warns that grenades of all types are a serious threat on a map this small. Its recommended option is Perk Greed, which lets you equip both Tech Mask and Flak Jacket for resistance to a variety of grenades. This is the official guide’s loadout advice, not a measured comparison of perk effectiveness.

Consider gas effects for your loadout
The Fear Trap Field Upgrade and Psych Grenade emit neurotoxic gas clouds that cause severe hallucinations in affected enemies. Activision describes Distilled Compound as increasing the effect’s duration and Acidic Compound as adding damage over time. These are effects to consider if they fit your loadout; the map guide does not establish a universally preferable choice.
Time pushes instead of repeatedly challenging a spawn
On a compact map, an aggressive route can bring you into danger quickly. Activision cautions against repeatedly rushing into an enemy spawn. Check your surroundings, then decide whether the situation favors a push or a defensive position that lets opponents approach. The advice is about timing and awareness, not a fixed route or guaranteed safe position.

What the official guide does—and does not—establish
Activision’s map guide supports the named layout and tactical recommendations above. It does not provide exact distances, objective locations, weapon rankings, or a current playlist rotation. A 2025 multiplayer deep dive lists Paranoia among Black Ops 7’s Core 6v6 launch maps, but that does not confirm its availability in a particular playlist in October 2026. Check the live in-game playlist rather than assuming the map is currently in rotation.
