No—there is no way to guarantee Impostor in a live Among Us match. Innersloth says role assignment is random and that nothing a player does increases their chances. In a typical 2-Impostor, 8-player lobby, the FAQ gives each player a 20% chance; that figure applies to that setup, not every lobby configuration. Innersloth’s FAQ does not state a confirmed revision date.
Why you cannot guarantee Impostor in a live match
Innersloth describes Impostor assignment as a true random chance. It says the chances are evenly split among players in a lobby and that no action increases a player’s chance of getting the role more often. A run of Crewmate games—or several Impostor games close together—does not mean the game is responding to your behavior; random results can look uneven over a limited run.

So repeated queueing, changing cosmetics, or using a particular account does not provide a supported way to control your role. The official guidance offers no trick for making one player Impostor every live round.

What role settings and lobby filters actually do
Host settings configure roles, not the player who receives them
Some lobby settings control how many special roles or abilities can appear, or their probability. For example, Innersloth’s Shapeshifter role overview describes configurable chances for that special Impostor ability. These are configuration options for the match; they are not a way to nominate a particular player as the base Impostor.

The Impostor filter helps you choose a lobby setup
Innersloth’s 2024 account of update 16.0.0 describes a lobby-finder filter for the number of Impostors. A filter can help you look for a game configured with the number you prefer, but it does not select your personal role. The documentation is tied to that update, so the current menu labels may differ.
How to play Impostor on demand in Practice mode
If your goal is to practice being Impostor rather than control an online match, Practice mode is the supported option. In its September 2025 update, Innersloth said players could choose an Impostor role from the role-selection folders in Practice. This lets you try the role without waiting for a random live assignment; it does not carry over to multiplayer.

Because Among Us continues to receive updates, including version 18.0.0 on August 18, 2026, exact menu names and placement may change. Innersloth’s update introducing the Judge role discusses role settings but does not announce a change to random live Impostor assignment. Check the current in-game interface for the Practice role picker rather than relying on older button-by-button directions.
