In Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Kill Order is a 6v6 respawn mode: protect your team’s High Value Target (HVT), hunt the opposing HVT, and earn points through eliminations. In public matches, the first team to 125 points wins, according to Activision’s Kill Order guide, published October 23, 2024.
What is the objective in Kill Order?
Each team has six players: five standard Operators and one designated HVT at a time. Both teams can respawn. Your team scores by eliminating opponents, with extra points for HVT-related eliminations. The central trade-off is to keep your own HVT alive while creating an opportunity to take out the enemy HVT.

Both teams’ HVTs are identified on the HUD, and their locations can be seen during the match. That makes the HVT a visible priority for both attackers and defenders.

How does Kill Order scoring work?
Activision’s 2024 guide gives these Team Score values:

The 5-point HVT elimination is credited to the player who gets the final blow for Team Score. Players who participate in taking down an HVT can still earn Match Score, but participation alone does not award them the Team Score for the elimination.
Surviving as the HVT does not itself add match points. It can deny the opposing team the points it would earn for eliminating you, and Activision says HVT survival contributes to personal score and team contribution for XP-related purposes. In public matches, the first team to reach 125 points wins; Activision’s stated target is specifically for public matches.

What should the HVT do?
The HVT is both a scoring threat and the other team’s main target. An HVT’s eliminations are worth 2 points rather than the 1 point a standard Operator earns, but the HVT role also makes survival important. Avoid treating the role as a license to roam alone or take unnecessary fights.
- Stay close enough to teammates to receive help rather than operating alone.
- Choose hard cover and avoid positions with several chokepoints where attackers can approach from multiple directions.
- Take useful fights: eliminating an opponent earns the HVT’s team 2 points, but a risky death can give the other team a 5-point HVT elimination.
- Communicate your position and threats so teammates can defend you or respond to an attack.
How should the rest of the team play?
Coordinate rather than sending every player after the opposing HVT. Activision recommends communication, teamwork, and assigning or rotating roles. Some players can protect the friendly HVT while others pressure the opposing team; a strong defensive position can also free teammates to attack.

When your HVT is under threat, weigh the immediate danger against the chance to attack the enemy HVT. A successful HVT elimination is worth 5 Team Score, so finishing the enemy HVT can outweigh one or two ordinary eliminations. But abandoning a friendly HVT at the wrong moment may hand the other team the same valuable opportunity.

The next HVT is not assigned instantly. After a short delay, another Operator becomes the team’s HVT. During that transition, players who are still attacking may be able to finish an engagement or earn score, so an HVT takedown does not necessarily mean the action around that player is over.

How does Face Off Kill Order differ?
Face Off Kill Order keeps the 6v6 HVT objective but takes place on small Strike maps and disables Scorestreaks. The tighter maps make protecting the HVT more difficult, according to Activision’s Face Off guide, also published October 23, 2024.
