To display a clock while a supported LG Smart TV is idle, enable Always Ready, turn off the TV with its remote, then choose the clock design from the Background Screen options. If the displayed time is wrong, adjust the TV’s separate clock settings under Time & Timer or an older model’s Timers menu.
How do I display the clock on my LG TV?
The clock appears on the Always Ready Background Screen on supported models; it is not a universal overlay that stays visible while you watch regular TV or use every app. LG’s instructions say the background mode is triggered by turning off the TV with the remote. Feature availability and menu labels vary by model and webOS version, so check the manual for your exact TV if an option is missing.

- Open Settings. Press the Settings button on the remote. If your remote has no Settings button, press Home and select the on-screen Settings icon.
- Find Always Ready. On webOS 22, open All Settings → General → Always Ready Mode. On the 2024 webOS 24 guide, use Home → Always Ready or Settings → All Settings → General → Always Ready.
- Enable the feature. Select the option to enable Always Ready.
- Turn off the TV with the remote. The Always Ready background screen should appear instead of the TV simply leaving the screen dark.
- Choose the clock. Open the background screen’s options or settings and select Clock or its clock-design option. The exact screen and wording can differ by model.
LG describes an Information mode that can show time and weather, but the documented clock-design option is part of the Always Ready Background Screen. The instructions do not establish that a clock can remain overlaid on all programs and apps. LG’s webOS 22 Always Ready guide and its general Always Ready guide explain the feature and its model-dependent availability.

Use Always Ready’s Background Screen clock if your TV supports it. This is an idle-screen feature: the TV must enter Always Ready when switched off with the remote. It is different from keeping a clock visible while watching content. If Always Ready or its Clock option does not appear, look up the exact model in LG’s user manual rather than assuming every LG Smart TV includes the same feature.

How do I fix the time if the clock is wrong?
Setting the TV’s underlying time is separate from choosing a clock design for the idle screen. The menu route depends on the TV’s release year and webOS generation:
- 2024-release TVs with webOS 24 or later: Settings → All Settings → General → System → Time & Timer. Check Set Automatically.
- TVs released from 2021 onward, webOS 6.0 or later: All Settings → General → System → Time & Timer.
- 2019 webOS 4.5, and 2018 or earlier webOS 4.0 or earlier: All Settings → General → Timers.
For older sets covered by LG’s separate clock instructions, the route is Home → Setup → Clock/Time → Clock. Choose Auto and set the appropriate time zone, or choose Manual and enter the date and time. LG notes that time-zone and daylight-saving choices are disabled when the clock is set manually.

LG says automatic time may come from digital broadcasts when an antenna is connected, or from internet standard time when the TV has an internet connection. Its troubleshooting guidance lists a missing internet or antenna connection, an incorrect location, and automatic time being off as possible reasons for an incorrect display. A set-top box connection alone may not provide time information to the TV if the TV itself has no network connection.

What if Always Ready or Clock is missing?
- Check the exact TV model’s manual. LG says Always Ready availability differs by model; support for the feature should not be inferred from the LG brand alone.
- Try the on-screen Settings icon. If the remote has no Settings button, press Home and open Settings from the screen.
- Separate a missing feature from a time-source problem. If the clock design appears but shows the wrong time, check the time settings and whether the TV can receive time from the internet or a broadcast antenna.
For some older models covered by LG’s clock article, the military-time display during the brief 2–5 second startup screen cannot be changed through a menu setting; LG says the time after startup is displayed in 12-hour format. This guidance applies to the models covered by that older article, not necessarily to current TVs. LG’s current-time troubleshooting page provides additional checks for a time that is not displayed.
