Bitdefender VPN can be a good-value choice for straightforward browsing, public Wi-Fi and location-based access, especially in its first year. But its reported U.S. price rises from about $35 to about $70 after year one, and reviewers raise privacy and reliability concerns that matter to people seeking stronger privacy assurances. It is easier to recommend for simplicity and price than for advanced privacy needs.
What does Bitdefender VPN cost, and when is it good value?
Published U.S. price reports from 2026 put the annual subscription at about $35 for the first year and about $70 afterward. Security.org lists $34.99 for the first annual year, equivalent to $2.92 per month, and a regular monthly equivalent of $5.83. WIRED reports $35 for year one and $70 after the first year, with prices stated as of June 2026. The figures align after rounding; they are dated reporting, not a guarantee of the price shown at checkout. Security.org’s review and WIRED’s review provide those figures.

Bitdefender says subscription prices can change, plans renew automatically, and renewal pricing is communicated before billing. Check the checkout terms and renewal amount before subscribing. Bitdefender’s product page is the place to check current availability and pricing.
The first-year price makes the service more appealing if you want a simple VPN for everyday use and expect to use it throughout the annual term. The value is less compelling if you need a monthly plan, want a longer-term option, or are judging the subscription by its renewal price: WIRED reports that the service is annual-only, with no monthly or multiyear plans, and that the price becomes less attractive after year one.

What does Premium VPN include?
Bitdefender advertises Premium VPN with unlimited traffic, access to more than 100 server locations, and use on up to 10 devices. Its UK support FAQ says Premium subscribers can select a server and use the subscription on up to 10 devices simultaneously. By contrast, the FAQ describes the standard VPN tier as limited to 200 MB of traffic per day per device in ordinary consumer subscriptions, with automatic server selection. Bitdefender’s VPN FAQ explains the tier differences.
The product page advertises AES-256 or the highest cipher supported by the client and server, Perfect Forward Secrecy, WireGuard and an App Traffic Optimizer. WIRED describes a clean, similar-feeling app on Windows, macOS, iOS and Android, and identifies a kill switch. These are advertised features and reviewer observations; they should not be taken as a guarantee of performance on every device or network.

Who is it best suited to?
- Everyday browsing and public Wi-Fi: WIRED says the service does the job for open Wi-Fi and getting around geo-location barriers. The straightforward app and Premium’s unlimited traffic suit routine use.
- Several devices: Premium’s advertised limit of 10 simultaneous devices can be useful if you want one subscription for multiple personal devices.
- People prioritizing the introductory price: The reported first-year cost is attractive, provided you account for the higher renewal price before committing.
What should you check before subscribing?
- Renewal price and billing: Compare the checkout price with the renewal amount and confirm the automatic-renewal terms.
- Plan length: WIRED reports an annual-only subscription, so it may not suit someone who wants to pay month by month.
- Devices and coverage: Confirm that your operating systems are supported and that the available server locations fit your needs. WIRED reports coverage across more than 100 countries and up to 10 Premium connections.
- Advanced privacy features: WIRED says the service lacks features such as obfuscation or multi-hop. It also reports no Linux or TV client; Bitdefender’s FAQ says router installation and direct router configuration are unsupported.
- Independent security evidence: Review the privacy assessments and the provider’s own claims together rather than treating a no-log statement as the whole security picture.
How strong is the privacy evidence?
Bitdefender’s support center says its VPN infrastructure underwent an independent audit in 2025 covering systems, configurations and processes, and that the audit confirmed compliance with its no-log policy. The support page does not name the auditor or link to a public report, so readers cannot use that page alone to inspect the audit’s scope or findings. Bitdefender’s no-log policy page sets out the company’s claim.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →RTINGS’ privacy review is dated November 17, 2025, and its review page was updated in July 2026. RTINGS reports DNS and IP leak concerns, kill-switch reliability concerns, and says its assessment found no published independent audits. That statement and Bitdefender’s later-accessible support page describing a 2025 audit do not establish the same thing: the available material does not resolve the difference or provide a public report to assess. RTINGS’ review gives its assessment and dates.
RTINGS also says the terms it reviewed name Hotspot Shield as the service provider and require acceptance of that provider’s terms and privacy policy. Treat that as a description of the terms RTINGS reviewed, not confirmation of current infrastructure or contractual arrangements.

WIRED reviewer Matthew Smith sums up the trade-off: “Bitdefender VPN has an excellent starting price, even if it lacks the advanced features that privacy nerds may want.” The quoted assessment reflects the difference between an accessible, low reported introductory price and the extra features or independently inspectable evidence some privacy-focused users expect.

If you mainly want an uncomplicated connection for routine browsing and open Wi-Fi, Bitdefender VPN’s first-year price and Premium device allowance make it worth considering. If your decision depends on leak protection, kill-switch reliability, advanced privacy features or transparent independent audits, the cited assessments leave questions that the product’s price does not answer.
