Bitcoin Group SE said on 6 October 2026 that BaFin had refused its subsidiary futurum bank AG’s application for authorization under MiCAR. The company says it is pursuing a different route to restart trading, but has not named partners or given a restart date.
Is Bitcoin.de down, and can you withdraw?
The exchange service is not operating normally, but the available information describes a trading and deposit pause rather than a complete shutdown of the website. Bitcoin.de’s official platform page says deposits and trading are paused until further notice and withdrawals continue. Its status summary is dated 21 August 2026, so it predates the 6 October licensing announcement; check the live page for any change before acting.

Why is Bitcoin.de trading paused?
Bitcoin Group SE said futurum bank AG submitted its MiCAR authorization application on 27 June 2025 and that BaFin refused it. The group described the process as having lasted more than 15 months. It also said the operational trading business had been largely dormant since 12 June 2026.

The refusal and its status are reported by Bitcoin Group SE in its 6 October announcement. The announcement does not state BaFin’s reasons, and the company said formal delivery of the decision was still expected. It said it was reviewing the decision, could object within one month after notification, and could apply again later. Because the notification date was not established in the announcement, no calendar deadline for an objection can be inferred.

What does the company say about customer assets?
Bitcoin Group SE says futurum bank AG will continue holding customer assets until they can be transferred to an alternative custodian, and that customers’ claims remain unrestricted. This is the company’s stated position; the announcement is not an independent audit or confirmation of individual account balances.
How could trading resume?
The company says it is working on an operating model with regulated German partners rather than relying on the refused application. Under the proposed arrangement, one regulated institution would initially be the customers’ trading counterparty and a separate regulated German party would provide custody. The 6 October announcement named neither party and did not confirm that agreements had been completed.

That is Bitcoin Group SE’s description of its goal, not a confirmation that trading has restarted. No restart date or customer transition instructions were given.

What happened to the planned relaunch?
Bitcoin Group SE’s 29 September 2026 half-year report announcement described a planned expanded platform offering more than 100 cryptocurrencies, along with savings plans, swaps and staking. Those were planned features, not evidence that they are available. The 6 October announcement makes clear that the relaunch now depends on the proposed regulated-partner model.

- Which regulated entity will act as the trading counterparty, and which will hold custody?
- What authorization and jurisdiction apply to each partner?
- When does the new arrangement take effect, and how will any transition work?
- Must customers take any action, and are trading and deposits explicitly shown as resumed?
