To host BigChadGuys Plus without Cobblemon, download the separate “BCG+ NC 2.14.1 Server Files” archive from the pack’s CurseForge Files page—not the normal client ZIP—then run the included Fabric startup script. The current listed pack is Minecraft 1.20.1, Fabric 0.17.3, and 301 mods. Allocate at least 4 GB of RAM for two players, add 1 GB for each additional player beyond the first two, and use a port-forward or tunnel if friends are joining from outside your home network.
Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.

A modpack is a matched client-and-server installation: the launcher files your players use are not automatically suitable for a dedicated server. Uploading the ordinary client directory can leave you with missing libraries, client-only mods, or no usable launch script.
This guide covers a home server on Windows, macOS, or Linux, remote access for friends, and the basic workflow for a managed Minecraft host. It intentionally focuses on the non-Cobblemon edition.

Download the correct non-Cobblemon server pack
Use the Server Files entry
The official FAQ’s download path is:
- Open the BigChadGuys Plus (Non Cobblemon!) project on CurseForge.
- Open the pack’s Files page.
- Select the exact pack version you intend to run, such as BCG+ NC 2.14.1.
- Open Additional Files.
- Select the entry named Server Files.
- Download the archive labeled in the form
BCG+ NC [Version] Server Files.zip.
Do not download BigChadGuys Plus [Version].zip for the server. That is the client download. The two archives have deliberately similar names, so check the words Server Files before saving the file.
Verify the archive before doing anything else
Extract the ZIP into a new, dedicated folder. A correct server archive should contain these four directories:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
configmodslibrariesresourcepacks
It should also contain these two JAR files:
fabric-server-launch.jarserver.jar
Finally, look for both startup files:
start.batfor Windowsstart.shfor macOS or Linux
If the extracted folder contains only a config directory and overrides.json, you downloaded the client archive by mistake. Delete or set that folder aside, return to Additional Files, and download the Server Files entry. Do not try to repair the client archive by copying random files into it.
Prepare the host computer
Choose a dedicated folder and account
Place the extracted files in a folder used only for this server. Avoid locations synchronized by cloud-storage software, removable drives, or folders where your operating system routinely blocks script execution. A simple path such as C:MinecraftBCG-NC on Windows or ~/minecraft/bcg-nc on macOS/Linux makes launch errors and backups easier to diagnose.
Run the server under a normal user account rather than an operating-system administrator account whenever practical. Give that account read/write access to the server folder. The server must be able to create world, log, cache, and configuration files beside the supplied JARs.
Install and confirm Java
Install the Java runtime supported by the Minecraft 1.20.1 Fabric pack and confirm that the command is available in a terminal or command prompt. The managed-host example in the official FAQ uses a Custom Java 17 setting, so Java 17 is the runtime to select when a provider presents that option. If your host or launcher documents a different supported runtime, follow that current documentation rather than mixing versions.

Launch the server locally
Windows
- Open the extracted server folder in File Explorer.
- Right-click
start.batand choose Edit (or open it in a plain-text editor). - Find the memory setting
-Xmx4G. - Leave it at 4 GB for the minimum two-player allocation, or change the value to match your player count and available physical RAM.
- Save the file without changing its
.batextension. - Double-click
start.batto open the server console.
Do not allocate all of the computer’s RAM to Minecraft. The operating system, the launcher, Java itself, and any other services still need memory. If the computer has only a small amount of total RAM, reduce other workloads or use a managed host instead of assigning an allocation the machine cannot sustain.
macOS or Linux
- Open Terminal and change to the extracted server directory with
cd. - Open
start.shin a text editor. - Change the
-Xmx4Gvalue if your planned allocation is different. - Save the file.
- On Linux, make the script executable with
chmod +x start.shif necessary. - Run it with
./start.sh.
On macOS, Gatekeeper or a shell permission prompt can appear the first time a script is run. Confirm that you are executing the file you downloaded and extracted, then grant the terminal permission required by your macOS version. The script must be run from the server directory so its relative paths resolve to libraries, mods, and the supplied JARs.
Accept the Minecraft EULA
The first launch may stop because the Minecraft EULA has not been accepted. Close the server window, open the generated eula.txt, change the setting from eula=false to eula=true, save the file, and run the matching startup script again. Accepting the EULA is a prerequisite for starting the server; it is not a modpack error.
On a successful launch, the console will continue loading Fabric and the mod set, create a world directory, and eventually report that the server is ready for commands. The first start can take longer because libraries, configuration files, and world data are being created.
Set RAM for your player count
The official BigChadGuys Plus FAQ recommends a minimum of 4 GB for a dedicated server. For more than two players, add 1 GB for every person after the first two. The recommendation is an allocation guideline, not a guarantee that every computer can host that many players smoothly; terrain generation, view distance, other applications, and the hardware’s CPU and storage also affect responsiveness.
| Concurrent players | Recommended server allocation | How the figure is derived |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | 4 GB | Minimum recommendation |
| 4 | 6 GB | 4 GB plus 1 GB for each of two players beyond the first two |
| 6 | 8 GB | 4 GB plus 1 GB for each of four players beyond the first two |
For a different player count, apply the same rule: start at 4 GB for two players, then add 1 GB per additional player. Change the -Xmx value in start.bat or start.sh to the desired allocation, using the format shown in the supplied script (for example, -Xmx6G).
Increase the allocation only when the host has enough unused memory. A larger heap cannot compensate for a slow CPU, an overloaded disk, a broken mod, or a network bottleneck. Watch the console and player experience after each change rather than repeatedly increasing the number without identifying the limiting resource.

Connect players on the same home network
Players connected to the same Wi-Fi or wired home network can join without changing the router. Start the server, find the host computer’s local IP address, and give that address to the other players. They should add a multiplayer server using the address and port shown by your server configuration. The host itself can usually connect through the local address or the loopback address supported by its Minecraft client.
Every joining player must install the same BigChadGuys Plus non-Cobblemon version on the client. A server running BCG+ NC 2.14.1 should be paired with the corresponding client release, not an older pack version or the Cobblemon edition. Version mismatches commonly produce missing-mod, registry, or connection errors before the player reaches the world.
Let friends join from outside your network
Option 1: Port forwarding
Remote players cannot normally reach a computer hidden behind a home router. Port-forward the Minecraft server’s configured port from the router to the host computer’s local IP address, then allow the same connection through the computer’s firewall. Give friends your public address and the configured server port, not the private Wi-Fi address used by people inside your home.
- Assign the host computer a stable local address, either through a router reservation or another method supported by your network.
- Check the server’s configured listening port in its properties file.
- Create a router forwarding rule for that port to the host computer’s local address.
- Allow the server application or port through the host operating system’s firewall when prompted.
- Restart the server if you changed its port or binding settings.
- Have a friend test from a different network, such as mobile data. Testing from the same Wi-Fi can give a false impression that remote access works.
Router menus use different names and layouts. If your internet provider uses carrier-grade NAT, inbound forwarding may not work even when the rule looks correct. In that case, use a tunnel or a managed host instead of repeatedly changing firewall settings.
Option 2: A tunnel service
The FAQ identifies ngrok and Cloudflare Zero Trust as alternatives when you cannot configure the router. A tunnel makes an outbound connection from the host and provides a reachable address for players, avoiding a conventional inbound-forwarding rule.
- ngrok: The FAQ notes a free allowance of up to 1 GB of bandwidth. Check the service’s current limits and terms before relying on that allowance for a long-running world.
- Cloudflare Zero Trust: The FAQ describes the service as free but notes that it requires payment details and client software. Complete the account and client setup before giving players the tunnel address.
Tunnels add another process that must stay running. Document which local port the tunnel targets, start it after the Minecraft server, and treat the generated address as a credential: share it only with the people who should connect. If players suddenly lose access, check both the Minecraft console and the tunnel client rather than changing mod files.
Use a managed Minecraft host
A managed host can remove much of the home-network work, but it must support uploading custom Fabric files and selecting the correct Java runtime. The official FAQ’s workflow is to extract the server archive locally, upload the folders, JARs, and startup files by FTP, and then configure the provider to launch the custom Fabric JAR.

Upload the complete server directory
Upload the extracted config, mods, libraries, and resourcepacks directories, along with fabric-server-launch.jar, server.jar, and the supplied startup files. Do not upload only the client’s mods folder and assume the host will recreate the rest. Preserve the directory structure and wait for the FTP client to finish every file before starting the instance.
Configure the custom Fabric launch
Provider control panels differ, so use the host’s current instructions for the exact menu names. The FAQ gives this example for BisectHosting: rename fabric-server-launch.jar to customjava17.jar, open the JAR-selection menu, choose Custom, and enable Custom Java 17. That is an example of the required capability, not a universal instruction for every provider; do not rename files unless your host specifically requires it.
After selecting the custom JAR and Java runtime, start the instance and inspect the console for Fabric loading errors. If the panel silently launches a stock server JAR, the modpack will not load even though the files are present. Stop the instance, correct the JAR selection, and start again before troubleshooting individual mods.
Pre-generate terrain with Chunky
Exploring untouched terrain makes the server generate chunks while players move, which can cause temporary lag. The official FAQ recommends Chunky for pre-generating terrain before a group begins exploring.
- Install and enable the Chunky component that belongs with your server’s mod configuration.
- Choose the world in which you want to generate terrain.
- Run
chunky radius 1000to set a 1,000-block generation radius. - Run
chunky startto begin generation. - Use
chunky pausewhen you need to free resources temporarily. - Use
chunky cancelto stop the current process.
Pre-generation consumes CPU, memory, storage, and time. Run it before inviting players, preferably while monitoring the console and disk space. A radius of 1,000 is the documented example; choose a smaller area if the host cannot sustain the workload, and expand later during a maintenance window.
Client installation and version matching
Install the non-Cobblemon client release
Each player should install the same non-Cobblemon pack version through the launcher used to distribute the pack. Select BCG+ NC 2.14.1 if that is the server release, and confirm that the launcher reports Minecraft 1.20.1, Fabric 0.17.3, and the expected mod set. Do not add Cobblemon or remove a mod to “make the list fit”; the server and clients must agree on the pack’s registries and configuration.
Let the launcher create the client instance in its own directory. The server ZIP is not a replacement for the client installation, and the client ZIP is not a replacement for the server archive. Keeping the two roles separate prevents accidental uploads of client-only files and gives every player a repeatable installation.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
Connect after the server is ready
- Start the server and wait until its console reports readiness.
- Open the matching client profile.
- Choose Multiplayer and add the address supplied by the host.
- Use the local address for same-network play, or the forwarded/tunnel address for remote play.
- If the connection fails, record the exact error and compare the client and server pack versions before changing settings.
Self-hosting versus managed hosting
The right option depends less on the mod list than on who wants to operate the machine and network. Use this comparison to decide before you build the world.

| Decision factor | Self-hosting at home | Managed host |
|---|---|---|
| Files and Java control | Direct access to every folder, JAR, script, and Java installation. | Available only to the extent the provider supports FTP uploads, custom Fabric JARs, and the required Java version. |
| Network setup | Same-Wi-Fi play needs no router change; remote play needs forwarding or a tunnel. | The provider normally supplies the public network endpoint; confirm its custom-port and Fabric requirements. |
| Recurring cost | No separate hosting bill is established here, but you provide the computer, electricity, storage, and internet connection. | A recurring provider charge applies; current pricing is not specified in this guide and varies by provider and allocation. |
| Backups and uptime | You are responsible for backups, restarts, updates, and keeping the host online. | Some providers offer tools for these tasks, but availability and retention must be checked in the current plan documentation. |
| RAM scaling | You can apply the 4 GB minimum and add 1 GB per player beyond two, limited by the host computer’s physical memory. | You can usually change the paid allocation, subject to the provider’s plan limits and custom-JAR support. |
| Custom Fabric launch | The supplied start.bat or start.sh launches the pack directly. |
The control panel must be configured for the uploaded Fabric launcher and compatible Java runtime. |
Choose home hosting when you want maximum file and Java control and are comfortable maintaining networking and backups. Choose a managed host when you prefer an always-available machine and do not want to expose or maintain a home network, provided the host accepts this custom Fabric server.
Backups, updates, and safe maintenance
Back up the world and configuration
Stop the server cleanly before copying its world directory. Also back up config, the server properties file, permissions or whitelist files you create, and any custom scripts. Store at least one copy outside the host computer. A backup made while files are actively changing can be incomplete, so schedule copies during a shutdown or maintenance window.
Update as a matched set
When you change the BCG+ NC version, update the server archive and every client to the same release. Keep the old server folder until the new version has started successfully and the world has been backed up. Never overwrite a working installation without a rollback path.
Protect the server address and permissions
Only share a forwarded or tunnel address with intended players. Grant operator privileges sparingly, and do not run downloaded server scripts from an untrusted archive. If you move the server to a new computer, copy the backed-up world and configuration rather than repeatedly transferring a live, running directory.

The server window closes immediately
- Run the script from a terminal so the error remains visible.
- Check

The extracted files do not include the JARs or startup scripts
You almost certainly downloaded the client archive. Return to the pack’s Files page, open Additional Files, and select the entry explicitly labeled Server Files. Seeing only config and overrides.json is the documented sign of this mistake.
Players on the same Wi-Fi cannot connect
- Confirm that the server console has finished loading.
- Have the player use the host’s local network address, not the public address or a tunnel address.
- Check the host firewall and verify that the server is listening on the configured port.
- Compare the client’s BCG+ NC version with the server’s exact version.
Remote players cannot connect
- Test locally first; forwarding cannot fix a server that does not accept local connections.
- Verify that the router rule targets the host’s current local IP address.
- Check the host firewall and the server’s configured port.
- Test from a truly external network.
- If your internet connection uses carrier-grade NAT or blocks inbound traffic, use a tunnel or managed host.
Players get missing-mod or registry errors
Reinstall the exact non-Cobblemon client release and compare it with the server version. Do not copy the server’s entire directory over a client installation, and do not remove mods individually unless the pack’s maintainers publish a version-specific fix. The 301-mod pack is intended to be consumed as a matched release.
The world lags during exploration
Use Chunky before opening the world to players. Start with the documented chunky radius 1000 and chunky start commands, pause with chunky pause if the host becomes overloaded, or stop with chunky cancel. Also check that the RAM allocation reflects the number of concurrent players and that another process is not consuming the host’s resources.

config, mods, libraries, resourcepacks, both JARs, and both startup files are present. - Installed a compatible Java runtime and confirmed it with
java -version. - Adjusted
-Xmxto at least 4 GB for two players and added 1 GB per player beyond two. - Accepted the EULA in
eula.txtif the first launch stopped. - Installed the identical non-Cobblemon client version for every player.
- Tested local multiplayer before configuring remote access.
- Configured port forwarding or a tunnel only when remote players need access.
- Backed up the world and configuration before updates or major terrain generation.
- Pre-generated terrain with Chunky if exploration-time lag is a concern.
Bottom line
The critical choice is the download: use the dedicated BCG+ NC 2.14.1 Server Files archive from Additional Files. Once the archive’s folders, Fabric JARs, and startup scripts are present, the remaining setup is straightforward: run the platform-appropriate script, accept the EULA, allocate RAM according to player count, and match every client to the same 1.20.1 non-Cobblemon release. Same-network friends can connect without router changes; remote friends require forwarding, a tunnel, or a managed host that supports custom Fabric files and Java 17.
