Not officially. .si is Slovenia’s country-code top-level domain, administered by the Academic and Research Network of Slovenia (ARNES). “Super Intelligence” is a possible branding interpretation, not the meaning assigned to the extension by the registry or IANA. A company could use a .si address to evoke that phrase, but there is no established evidence that the extension is becoming a widely adopted identity for the field.
What does .si stand for?
The official meaning is tied to Slovenia: IANA’s .si WHOIS record identifies the Academic and Research Network of Slovenia, and Register.si’s General Terms and Conditions identify Arnes as the .si registry. The terms on that page are published and valid from 15 November 2024.

“Super Intelligence” can work as a mnemonic or brand story for an AI company, product, or project. It does not change the domain’s official country-code status or establish registry endorsement. People unfamiliar with the brand may instead understand .si as Slovenia-related.

It could be used that way by individual organizations, but the available official evidence does not show that this interpretation is becoming common or that a recent increase in .si registrations is driven by it. Claims of a “land rush” or a broad redefinition need dated registry data and a clear counting method; without those, they remain unverified.

- Used Book in Good Condition
A domain is a naming and routing choice, not evidence of audience demand, legal exclusivity, or a change in what an extension officially means. If a brand relies on the “Super Intelligence” reading, it should make that meaning clear in its name and surrounding messaging rather than assume visitors will infer it from .si alone.
Is .si a good domain for an AI startup?
It may suit a startup that values a short, distinctive address and is comfortable with the Slovenia association. Before choosing it, weigh how the target audience is likely to read the extension, whether the full name is easy to say and spell, and whether the branding depends on an interpretation visitors may not share. Compare actual availability and registrar terms rather than assuming that a preferred name can be registered or that costs are uniform.
- Potential fit: the Slovenia connection is relevant, or the company can explain its intended “Super Intelligence” meaning clearly.
- Potential mismatch: the business needs an immediately obvious global AI identity and its audience may read .si only as a country-code address.
- Decision point: evaluate the complete domain with customers, partners, and legal advisers—not just the two-letter ending.
How to check and register a .si domain
Register.si’s registry overview says a name must be available and not reserved, use permitted characters, and follow its length and hyphen rules. It describes a range of two to 63 characters; the general terms specify how the maximum is measured for internationalized domain names. A particular name’s status can only be established by checking it live.

- Choose the exact name. Check spelling, hyphens, and any international characters against the registry’s rules.
- Check live availability. Use a registrar’s search or another current registration channel. The registry processes complete applications automatically in the order received, so availability can change.
- Compare registrar terms. Applications are submitted through a registrar. Check its price, renewal and transfer conditions, and cancellation policy before proceeding; these provider-specific terms are not established by the registry overview alone.
- Review the registration period and lifecycle rules. The registry allows registration periods of one to five years. Its overview also describes renewal and deletion mechanics, including a 30-day pending-delete period, and a cancellation window subject to the domain remaining inactive. Confirm the current policy and your registrar’s contract before purchase.
- Check rights before using the name. Search for relevant trademark, company-name, copyright, geographical-designation, and personal-name rights, and seek legal advice where appropriate.
Does owning the domain give you rights to the brand?
No. Registering a domain does not by itself prove that you own every right in the corresponding name. Register.si’s general terms provide for an alternative domain-name dispute procedure and identify trademark, company-name, copyright, geographical-designation, and personal-name rights among the possible grounds for a dispute. A short, available domain can still create a conflict with someone else’s rights.

What information about a .si holder is public?
Register.si says non-public holder information is disclosed only on a substantiated request and for justified reasons, including examples involving legal rights and dispute resolution. That is not the same as making a registrant’s complete personal details freely available to every visitor. See the registry’s disclosure policy for its stated process.
