A complete, game-specific accessibility menu is not confirmed in the available official and store documentation, so platform features such as PlayStation button remapping and text-to-speech must be treated separately from in-game options.
First, identify the game behind the “San Francisco” wording
The settings below apply to World War Z and World War Z: Aftermath, Saber Interactive’s co-op third-person zombie shooter. The official description presents it as a game for playing with up to three friends or AI teammates, with cross-play and campaigns in Rome, Vatican City, and Kamchatka. Steam describes up to four-player co-op, massive swarms and full controller support.

Neither of those references documents a main campaign set in San Francisco. “San Francisco zombie shooter” may be a reader’s shorthand, a stream or mission description, or a mix-up with another title. Do not assume that a San Francisco map exists in World War Z unless you have separate, current documentation for the specific mission or mode. The graphics, controller and accessibility guidance here is for the World War Z family, not a claim about that city as an official campaign location.
Saber’s current official site says more than 25 million players have played the game. That figure is the publisher’s current site copy, not an independent measurement. The practical consequence for settings is that you should tune for your own display, graphics hardware and controller rather than copy a single “best” preset.

Use a display-first graphics setup
Set the game to the panel’s native resolution and native aspect ratio before changing image-quality controls. Native output avoids avoidable scaling and keeps the HUD and geometry in the proportions intended by the display. Widescreen Gaming Forum (WSGF) records native support for widescreen, ultrawide and 4K output.
| Goal | Starting choice | Why it is the sensible first move | What to watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Correct geometry | Native resolution and native aspect ratio | Preserves the monitor’s intended pixel shape and avoids unnecessary scaling. | Lowering resolution can make the image soft even when frame rate improves. |
| Stable combat performance | Highest preset that remains stable during large hordes | Large swarms are the demanding part of this game; a steady result is more useful than a peak number in a quiet corridor. | This is a tuning method, not a published benchmark. |
| Recover performance with less blur | FSR or the resolution-scale slider | WSGF confirms both are available, so they provide a controlled way to trade internal resolution for speed before reducing texture quality. | Inspect distant enemies, railings and HUD edges for shimmering or softness. |
| Ultrawide geometry | Disable Dynamic Resolution Scale if the image stretches | WSGF reports stretching at aspect ratios other than 16:9 when Dynamic Resolution Scale is enabled. | Use another scaling option instead and re-check the aspect ratio. |
A practical tuning sequence
- Choose the native resolution shown by your monitor or television and confirm the game is using the native aspect ratio.
- Select the highest graphics preset that stays comfortable when a horde fills the screen. Do not judge only from the opening menu or an empty safe area.
- If performance drops, try the resolution-scale slider or FSR before lowering texture quality. Apply one change at a time so you know which trade-off helped.
- Run the same busy section again. Look for consistent frame pacing, clear enemy silhouettes and readable weapon sights rather than chasing a single maximum frame-rate number.
- On an ultrawide display, test a scene containing a large group and strong vertical lines. If characters, walls or the HUD appear horizontally pulled, disable Dynamic Resolution Scale and retest.
- Once the image is stable, adjust field of view. A wider view can improve awareness but makes objects appear smaller; a narrower view enlarges the centre of the image but shows less at the edges.
WSGF’s profile identifies a general FOV slider from 1.00 to 1.30 in 0.05 increments. Aftermath also has a separate first-person FOV slider from 0.80 to 1.30 for its paid first-person mode. Those are documented ranges, not a recommendation that one number is universally best. Start near the middle, then move in small increments while checking peripheral awareness, weapon comfort and motion sickness.
Choosing FOV without creating new problems
- Use a wider value when enemies at the edge of the screen are easy to miss or when close-range movement feels cramped.
- Use a narrower value when distant targets are too small, the image feels visually busy or wide-angle distortion is uncomfortable.
- For first-person mode, treat the first-person slider separately from the general third-person slider; changing one does not necessarily set the other.
- After every FOV change, check the crosshair, weapon model and subtitles. A value that feels comfortable in a hallway can feel too wide in an open arena.
Ultrawide and 4K: preserve the picture before chasing sharpness
Native ultrawide and 4K output are documented by WSGF, but support does not guarantee that every dynamic-scaling combination behaves correctly at every aspect ratio. The specific warning is that Dynamic Resolution Scale can stretch the image at ratios other than 16:9.

Ultrawide stretching fix
- Leave the monitor at its native ultrawide resolution and confirm the game is not being forced into a 16:9 desktop mode.
- Open the display or graphics settings and turn Dynamic Resolution Scale off.
- Use FSR or the ordinary resolution-scale slider to recover performance instead.
- Check a scene with circular objects, straight architecture and the HUD. If circles look round and the edges are no longer pulled outward, the aspect-ratio problem is resolved.
- If the picture is still wrong, return to the desktop display settings and verify that the operating system, GPU panel and game all agree on the same resolution and aspect ratio.
Do not “fix” stretching by changing the monitor’s aspect mode before testing the in-game dynamic-scaling switch. A display-side stretch can hide the symptom while making the game render at the wrong geometry. The documented in-game remedy is to disable Dynamic Resolution Scale when it causes stretching.
4K trade-offs
At 4K, keep native output if your system can sustain it. If a horde causes unacceptable drops, lower internal resolution through FSR or the resolution-scale slider rather than immediately reducing texture quality. This preserves the display’s output mode while reducing the number of pixels rendered internally. Because no independent benchmark is supplied, judge the result in your own busiest combat scenes.

Start with a known connection
- Connect an Xbox-compatible controller by the method you normally use, then launch the game after the controller is recognized by Steam or the operating system.
- Open the game’s controller settings and confirm that stick movement, triggers, face buttons and menu navigation respond before entering a mission.
- Begin with moderate look sensitivity. Increase it until you can track a moving zombie without repeatedly overshooting the target.
- Test both horizontal and vertical look movement. If vertical aim feels too fast while horizontal tracking is comfortable, adjust the axes separately if the current build exposes separate controls.
- Check the exact binding labels shown by your build. Menu names and options can change, so do not rely on a generic button map copied from another release.
Prioritize high-frequency actions
Keep sprint, melee, reload or interact, weapon swap and the class ability on buttons you can reach without removing your aiming thumb. The best arrangement depends on the controller and your hand size, but the principle is consistent: actions needed while a horde is close should not require a long menu trip or a thumb leaving the right stick.

| Weapon swap | Fast enough to change range or conserve ammunition. | Switch between primary and secondary weapons while moving, then confirm the intended weapon is selected. |
| Class ability | Accessible without taking the aiming thumb off the stick. | Trigger it in a safe area and confirm its cooldown or activation feedback is visible. |
Use moderate vibration initially, if the game exposes a vibration setting, and change it only after you know whether it helps you notice damage or reload feedback. The available documentation does not verify vibration-intensity controls, hold-versus-toggle choices, or a particular aim-assist implementation, so describe those as build-dependent until you confirm them in your own settings menu.
When a controller does not behave as expected
- If Steam sees the controller but the game does not, close and relaunch the game after connecting it, then check the active Steam controller configuration.
- If prompts show a different layout, verify whether the game is detecting an Xbox-compatible input or another controller profile.
- If aiming feels erratic, lower sensitivity temporarily and test the right stick for drift outside the game. Do not compensate for hardware drift by making sensitivity extremely low.
- If a binding appears missing, use the labels in the current build rather than assuming a control exists because another platform or guide lists it.
Accessibility: separate verified options from platform features
A complete, game-specific accessibility menu could not be verified from the official and store material available for this title. That means you should not promise colorblind modes, subtitle controls, narration, aim-assist settings, vibration intensity, hold or toggle behavior, or accessibility-specific FOV presets without checking the current build directly.

| Layer | What is established | How to describe it accurately |
|---|---|---|
| Game and PC storefront | Steam lists Full Controller Support and Xbox Controllers. | Controller use on PC is explicitly listed; the listing is not a full accessibility matrix. |
| PlayStation platform | PlayStation documentation describes system-level controller button reassignment and text-to-speech. | These are platform features. They should not be presented as World War Z in-game menu options. |
| Current game build | Specific color, subtitle, narration, aim-assist, vibration and hold/toggle controls are not established by the cited material. | Open the game’s own settings and confirm each option before recommending it. |
Use platform controls without confusing them with game controls
On PlayStation, system-level button reassignment can change how a controller maps before the game receives the input, and platform text-to-speech can read supported system text. Availability and behavior depend on the console, account and system software. Treat those as operating-system features: they may help a player use the game, but they do not prove that the game itself offers remappable controls or spoken menus.
On PC, an Xbox-compatible controller is the documented starting point. You can also inspect the operating system or Steam’s controller configuration for input remapping, but the exact menus and effect depend on the current platform configuration. Keep a written note of your changed layout so another player can restore the default bindings quickly.
Accessibility checks to perform in the game
- Open the settings before starting a mission and scan Display, Audio, Controls and Gameplay sections for subtitles, text size, color filters, narration, aim assistance, vibration and hold/toggle choices.
- Change one option at a time and preview it in a safe area or practice situation. Confirm that subtitles are readable against bright effects and that any color change remains distinguishable during a horde.
- Test whether the setting persists after returning to the main menu and restarting the game.
- Record the game version and platform when reporting an option to another player. A feature visible in one build or platform should not be generalized to all releases.
A settings profile for different priorities
There is no single universal “best” profile. The following profiles use only controls documented for the game and label the choices that require personal testing.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
| Priority | Resolution and scaling | FOV | Controller approach | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Image integrity | Native resolution and aspect ratio; highest stable preset; avoid Dynamic Resolution Scale on ultrawide if it stretches. | Middle of the documented range, then adjust in 0.05 steps. | Moderate look sensitivity with essential actions reachable while aiming. | Players who value correct geometry and texture detail. |
| Horde stability | Keep native output, then use FSR or the resolution-scale slider before lowering textures. | Comfortable value that keeps targets readable. | Sensitivity high enough to turn quickly without overshooting. | Players who notice drops during large swarms. |
| Ultrawide clarity | Native ultrawide; Dynamic Resolution Scale off if stretching appears; use another scaling option. | Check edge distortion after every change. | Verify HUD and prompts remain correctly positioned. | 21:9 and other non-16:9 displays. |
| First-person Aftermath | Use the same native-resolution and scaling sequence. | Set the separate first-person slider within its documented 0.80–1.30 range. | Place melee, reload and ability controls where they remain reachable in close combat. | Players using the paid Aftermath first-person mode. |
Common problems and precise fixes
The ultrawide image looks stretched
Turn off Dynamic Resolution Scale first. WSGF specifically reports stretching at non-16:9 ratios with that feature. Replace it with FSR or the ordinary resolution-scale slider, then re-check straight lines and the HUD.
The game looks soft after improving performance
Confirm the display is still at native output. If it is, raise the resolution-scale value or change the FSR mode before reducing texture quality further. Make one adjustment at a time and inspect distant enemies and thin geometry for clarity.
The frame rate is fine in quiet areas but collapses in a swarm
Use the largest horde you can reliably reproduce as your test. Lower internal resolution through FSR or the resolution-scale slider, then retest. A stable result during heavy combat is more meaningful than a high reading in an empty scene; no independent benchmark is supplied for a universal target.

The controller works in Steam but not in a mission
Reconnect it before launching, confirm the active Steam controller profile, and test every critical action in the game’s own controls screen. If the game displays an unexpected layout, check which input type it detected. Do not assume that a community binding matches the current build.
You need accessibility controls that are not listed
Check both the game menu and your platform settings. PlayStation’s documented remapping and text-to-speech are system-level options, while game-specific color, subtitle, narration, aim-assist and vibration features require confirmation in the current release. If an option is absent, record the platform and version before seeking a workaround; availability can differ by build.
Quick Recap
What to verify before publishing or sharing a settings guide
- Name the game as World War Z or World War Z: Aftermath rather than asserting an undocumented San Francisco campaign.
- State the display aspect ratio and whether the recommendation is for third-person play or Aftermath’s paid first-person mode.
- Carry the qualification with every number: the general FOV range is 1.00–1.30 in 0.05 increments, and the Aftermath first-person range is 0.80–1.30, as reported by WSGF’s 2022 profile updated in 2025.
- Identify the Steam listing’s “Full Controller Support” and “Xbox Controllers” as compatibility facts, not proof of a complete accessibility menu.
- Label PlayStation remapping and text-to-speech as platform features.
- Describe FSR, resolution scale and Dynamic Resolution Scale as available controls, while treating the performance order as practical guidance rather than a measured benchmark.
