There is no single best wireless headphone for every music listener. For an all-around over-ear pick, SoundGuys recommends the Sony WH-1000XM6; its other current picks point to different priorities, including long battery life, flight comfort and open-back listening at home. Choose by sound preference, noise control, fit, battery needs and compatibility with your playback device—not by a ranking alone.
What are the best wireless headphones for music?
SoundGuys’ 2026 guide names the Sony WH-1000XM6 its best all-around choice for music, citing its tuning and app EQ. That is an editorial recommendation, not a universal verdict or a claim of personal testing here. Sound preference is subjective, and a headphone that suits one listener’s preferred balance may not suit another.

How to choose headphones for your listening
Start with sound and EQ
Headphones can emphasize bass, vocals or treble differently. If you already know the balance you like, use that preference to narrow the field. App EQ can help adjust a headphone’s sound; SoundGuys notes EQ adjustment in the Sony app and Sennheiser lists EQ and sound-personalization controls for the MOMENTUM 4. Treat these as useful options, not a guarantee that every listener will prefer the result.

Decide how much noise control you need
Active noise cancellation (ANC) is useful for travel or noisy surroundings, while a transparency mode can let outside sound through when needed. If most listening happens in a quiet room, ANC may matter less than fit and sound. Editorial guides identify the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) as a flight-oriented comfort and noise-blocking option, but that is not a measured comparison in the cited manufacturer specifications.
Prioritize fit for long sessions
Comfort depends on head shape, ear clearance, clamping force and weight distribution. A recommendation for long-flight comfort is a starting point, not a substitute for trying a model when possible or checking the return policy. A poor fit can make an otherwise appealing sound profile or feature set a bad match for extended listening.

Match battery life to your routine

A Bluetooth codec is a connection format, not a promise of audible improvement. Sony lists SBC, AAC, LDAC and LC3 for the WH-1000XM6; Sennheiser lists SBC, AAC, aptX and aptX Adaptive for the MOMENTUM 4. Confirm that your headphones, playback device and music source support the same relevant option. A codec appearing on a headphone’s spec sheet does not mean every device or service will use it.

Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen): flight-oriented alternative
SoundGuys names this Bose model its most comfortable choice for long flights. Tom’s Guide also describes it as a strong noise-blocking option, while noting drawbacks in sound and build quality. These are the publishers’ assessments, not a universal fit or a manufacturer-verified performance comparison; consider your own sound priorities and comfort.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When open-back headphones make more sense
For quiet-room listening, SoundGuys points to the open-back Sennheiser HD 505 and Beyerdynamic DT 900 PRO X as detailed, studio-style alternatives. Open-back headphones are a different use case from wireless ANC travel headphones: they do not replace the isolation those models provide. Consider them only if home listening is your priority and the open design suits your surroundings.
