The safest Starscourge Radahn setup is a medium-load build that can stay mobile on Torrent while delivering short, reliable punish attacks. Aim to enter the festival around level 60–70 with a weapon upgraded to about +6 or better, use Pierce, bleed, or frost pressure where your build supports it, and keep at least one talisman slot for survival or equip load. Summon every available ally and bring fallen allies back during phase two.
There is no single best weapon or talisman for every character. Radahn’s huge arena, ranged gravity arrows, meteor crash, and long sword strings reward range, mobility, and disciplined attack windows more than a fashionable “best-in-slot” list.

What makes a Radahn loadout different
Starscourge Radahn is an optional Caelid boss fought at the Radahn Festival. Plarium’s 2025 guide recommends at least level 60–70 and lists 70,000 runes, the Remembrance of the Starscourge, and Radahn’s Great Rune as rewards. It also identifies Pierce and Scarlet Rot as weaknesses. Those weaknesses matter, but they do not replace the fundamentals: you must survive projectile openings, cross a large arena, and punish a boss who can cover enormous distances with gravity attacks.
Radahn’s opening gravity arrows can reach you before a melee build is in range. In phase two, the meteor crash, gravity explosion, comet barrage, longer sword strings, and additional gravity pulls make stationary attacks especially dangerous. Torrent is therefore part of the equipment plan rather than a convenience. A weapon that is theoretically stronger but leaves you over the heavy-load threshold can be worse than a slightly weaker weapon that lets you reposition and roll normally.

The practical priorities
- Stay at a medium or light load. Bandai Namco’s advanced-stats guide defines medium load as 30%–69.9% and heavy load as 70%–99.9%. Its advice is direct: “In general, it’s best to always be at a medium roll or below.”
- Use a weapon you can upgrade and operate consistently. The cited Radahn guide says upgraded weapons, usually +6 or higher, perform better when fighting solo.
- Favor completed punish windows. Fast attacks, thrusts, jumping attacks, and short strings are safer than slow combos that continue while Radahn turns or pulls you in.
- Build around your chosen range. Spears, rapiers, and piercing arrows support spacing; fast bleed or frost weapons support close-range pressure; bows and quick-casting magic let Torrent and summons hold attention while you attack.
Quick recommendations by playstyle
| Playstyle | Weapon direction | Armor direction | Talisman direction | Main risk |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fast melee | Bloodhound’s Fang, dual katanas, or another quick bleed/frost weapon | Light or medium pieces that preserve a medium roll | Damage talisman matching repeated hits, plus defense if needed | Staying in front of long sword chains |
| Thrusting melee | Spears or rapiers; use Pierce damage and attack from the edge of a combo | Medium armor without crossing 70% load | Equip-load or defensive talisman if weight is tight | Being caught during a greedy thrust sequence |
| Mounted ranged | Bow, piercing arrows, or fast-casting magic | Light gear for rapid target switches and arrow evasion | Damage or defense talisman matched to the ranged attack | Running out of space while Radahn changes targets |
| Tank | Heavy sword or another familiar high-damage weapon, with a shield if it does not force heavy load | Highest useful physical and magic defense within medium load | Equip-load and defensive choices before damage bonuses | Heavy rolling and assuming defense makes attacks safe |
| Jump-attack build | Two-handed heavy weapon or Starscourge Greatsword setup | Medium armor with enough poise for your preferred approach | Claw Talisman, with an equip-load or defensive option as needed | Jumping into an active gravity or sword sequence |
Best weapons for Starscourge Radahn
Bloodhound’s Fang and other fast bleed or frost weapons
Fast status weapons are among the most practical melee choices because Radahn gives brief openings rather than long, safe turn-based exchanges. Bloodhound’s Fang is a named example supported by the guide, and dual katanas can produce rapid bleed pressure when your stats and upgrades are already set up for them. Frost-oriented weapons serve the same general purpose: they reward repeated, controlled hits instead of one slow commitment.
Use these weapons from the side or rear after a completed swing sequence. Do not treat bleed or frost as permission to stand under Radahn indefinitely. Status buildup is useful only while you remain alive and mobile. On Torrent, make one or two attacks, disengage, and circle until Radahn finishes a recovery animation. If your weapon’s status buildup is slow because it is under-upgraded or your attributes do not support it, a familiar physical weapon may perform better in practice.
Spears and rapiers for Pierce damage
Plarium’s guide lists Pierce as a weakness, making thrusting weapons a logical choice for players who prefer spacing. Spears and rapiers let you attack from a safer distance than many slashing weapons and can be used while you angle away from Radahn’s front. Their value is not just the damage type: a precise thrust is easier to fit into a narrow punish window than a long horizontal combo.
Keep your camera and mount movement under control. A thrusting weapon still requires you to be close enough to be hit by a gravity pull or sword sweep. Attack after Radahn completes a chain, then move laterally or ride away rather than attempting a second string automatically.
Dual katanas and other rapid melee setups
Dual katanas are a strong option when you already know how to manage their stamina and spacing. Their quick attacks can build bleed or frost rapidly, but the extra animation time from power-stanced attacks can become a liability if Radahn turns toward you. Use single hits or the shortest reliable sequence during phase two, when his combos and gravity effects are more difficult to read.
Choose a weapon pair you can actually upgrade. A familiar, upgraded setup is preferable to an untested pair selected only because it has a popular status effect.
Bows and piercing arrows
Bows fit the arena’s scale and let you contribute while Torrent keeps moving. Piercing arrows align with the listed Pierce weakness, although the guide does not establish a single universally best bow or arrow combination. The main advantage is execution safety: you can maintain distance, watch Radahn’s animation, and stop firing immediately when he redirects toward you.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsMounted ranged play still requires a plan for ammunition and positioning. Avoid riding in a straight line while aiming for too long. Fire during a completed attack or while Radahn is occupied by a summon, then change direction before the next gravity projectile or charge.
Fast-casting magic
Fast-casting spells are supported as another ranged approach. The important qualifier is “fast-casting”: long setup animations are vulnerable to arrows, gravity pulls, and phase-two pressure. Use spells that let you cast, relocate, and mount Torrent without remaining planted in front of the boss. NPC allies can create the attention window needed for casting, but they will not hold Radahn forever; be ready to cancel a cast and move.
Heavy swords and shield builds
A tank setup can work with heavy armor, a shield, and a heavy sword if the complete loadout still preserves a normal or medium roll. High defense reduces the punishment for a mistake, but it does not make Radahn’s gravity attacks harmless. A heavy weapon should be used for deliberate single hits, charged attacks only when a clear opening exists, or jumping attacks that you can recover from safely.
Do not add a shield, great weapon, and the heaviest armor available without checking the resulting load. Crossing from 69.9% to 70% changes the roll category, and the lost mobility can outweigh the extra defense in this particular arena.

Recommended character level
Use level 60–70 as a practical entry range, matching Plarium’s recommendation. This is guidance rather than a hard gate: a lower-level expert can win, while a higher-level character can still fail if the weapon is weak, the roll is heavy, or the player ignores the arena’s movement demands.
How much Vigor to bring
Bandai Namco’s advanced-stats guide records 40 Vigor as 1,450 health and 60 Vigor as 1,900 health. Those figures are useful checkpoints when deciding whether another damage point is worth more than additional survivability. If Radahn’s arrows, gravity blasts, or one melee chain repeatedly leave you one hit from death, move toward the higher-health end of your available build rather than adding another damage talisman.

Health does not substitute for learning the meteor and gravity patterns. It gives you a margin for one mistake so that a failed attempt teaches you something instead of ending immediately.
Weapon upgrade target
The Radahn guide says upgraded weapons, usually +6 or higher, perform better when solo. Treat +6 as a practical minimum reference for a weapon that your character is already built to use, not as a promise that every weapon at that level has identical power. Confirm that the weapon’s attributes, scaling, status buildup, and moveset suit your stats before spending resources on a new option.

Why medium load is the default
Bandai Namco defines medium load as 30%–69.9% and heavy load as 70%–99.9%, and recommends medium roll or below in general. Radahn is an especially clear case for that advice: the arena is large, the boss opens with ranged attacks, and several phase-two attacks punish delayed movement. Check your total load after equipping the weapon, shield, arrows, talismans, and armor together.
Light armor for ranged and hit-and-run builds
Lightweight gear helps ranged players switch targets, turn away from arrow volleys, and mount or dismount without feeling trapped by a heavy roll. It is appropriate when your plan already depends on Torrent and distance. The trade-off is lower defense, so avoid taking direct hits and use the mount’s mobility to leave before Radahn completes a chain.
Medium armor for general melee
Medium armor is the most flexible choice for a first attempt. It supplies more physical and magic defense than a very light set while preserving the roll category that the fight demands. Prioritize the pieces that improve survivability without pushing the equipment screen into heavy load; there is no evidence that one named armor set is universally best for Radahn.
Heavy armor for a tank setup
Heavy armor is reasonable when it is part of a deliberate high-Vigor, shield, and heavy-weapon plan. Combine the strongest physical and magic defenses available to your character, then remove or replace pieces until the final load remains below 70%. If the only way to equip a set is to accept heavy load, the set is usually working against the fight’s movement requirements.

Talismans that actually help
Claw Talisman for jump attacks
Claw Talisman is a logical choice for jump-attack builds. Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe’s official patch 1.05 notes document a fix for a bug in which the talisman’s effect was not applied when jumping with the Starscourge Greatsword in both hands. That confirms the interaction for that setup; it does not establish Claw Talisman as the best talisman for every Radahn build.
Use it when jumping is genuinely your main attack pattern. If you rarely jump, a defensive or equip-load option will usually provide more value than a bonus you are not activating.
Equip-load talismans
An equip-load talisman is valuable when armor, shield, and weapon weight would otherwise push you into heavy load. Its purpose is simple: preserve the medium-roll threshold documented by Bandai Namco. Recheck the load after every equipment change, because replacing one weapon or adding a shield can move the entire setup across the 70% boundary.
Defensive talismans
Choose physical or magic mitigation when repeated deaths come from a specific damage source. The cited Radahn guidance supports high physical and magic defense for tank setups, but it does not rank one defensive talisman as universally best-in-slot. Identify the attack that kills you—arrows, a gravity blast, or a melee chain—and select defense that addresses that problem without sacrificing your roll.
Damage talismans
A damage talisman should match the attacks you actually land. Jump-focused builds can pair one with Claw Talisman; charged-attack builds should choose an effect that rewards charged attacks; rapid-hit bleed or frost builds should use an effect that benefits repeated strikes if available to the character. Treat this as a build preference, not a universal Radahn answer.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to use the loadout in the Radahn fight
Before entering the arena
- Confirm your character is approximately level 60–70 or understand the damage and survivability trade-off if you are lower.
- Upgrade the weapon you intend to use; the guide’s solo reference is usually +6 or higher.
- Open the equipment screen and verify that the complete loadout is below 70% load, preferably in the medium or light category.
- Equip the talisman that supports your actual attack pattern, then reserve another slot for equip load or defense if your build needs it.
- Learn where the NPC summon signs appear and plan to summon every available ally.
Phase one: cross the field and take short openings
Radahn opens with gravity arrows. Use the arena’s terrain, Torrent’s speed, and lateral movement rather than riding directly toward the projectile. Summon allies as you advance when their signs are available. Once you reach melee range, stay off Radahn’s direct front whenever possible.
Wait for a completed sweep, slam, or other committed sequence, then deliver one or two attacks. A thrust, a quick katana string, a Bloodhound’s Fang hit, a jump attack, an arrow volley, or a fast spell can all work if the recovery is short enough for your build. Do not continue attacking merely because the first hit connected.

Phase two: treat the meteor as a reset
Phase two adds the meteor crash, gravity explosion, comet barrage, longer sword strings, and more gravity pulls. When Radahn leaves the field for the meteor sequence, stop thinking about damage and prepare to survive the re-entry. Keep Torrent available, avoid standing in the expected impact area, and resume attacks only after the new pattern is clear.
Re-summon fallen NPC allies when their signs return in phase two. The festival encounter is designed around repeated ally participation, and allowing every summon to remain permanently defeated removes one of your safest sources of distraction.
Mounted movement and attack discipline
- Circle rather than retreating in a straight line, especially while Radahn is preparing a projectile.
- Use Torrent to leave long sword strings instead of attempting to roll through every hit at close range.
- Attack after the final hit of a visible combo, not during the middle of a chain.
- When Radahn changes targets, take one punish and reposition; do not assume the distraction lasts.
- If Torrent is knocked out, prioritize recovery and distance over one extra attack.
Four practical build templates
Fast status melee
Use Bloodhound’s Fang or dual katanas, with bleed or frost as the pressure source. Wear light or medium armor, stay below heavy load, and choose a damage talisman for repeated hits. Add a defensive talisman if arrows or gravity attacks are the reason attempts end. The winning rhythm is short attack strings followed by a mounted disengage.
Pierce rider
Equip a spear or rapier and build around controlled thrusts. Medium armor gives a useful defense buffer while preserving mobility. A load-focused talisman is worthwhile if the shield or weapon would otherwise force heavy load. Attack from the edge of Radahn’s recovery, then ride laterally before the next pull or sweep.
Ranged support
Use a bow with piercing arrows or fast-casting magic. Keep armor light enough to turn and reposition quickly, and choose damage or defense based on whether your misses or incoming attacks are the larger problem. Summons are particularly important because every second Radahn spends attacking an ally is a safer ranged window.
Recommended Free Tools
Jump-attack tank
Use a heavy weapon, including a two-handed Starscourge Greatsword setup if that is your chosen weapon, and equip Claw Talisman when jump attacks are central to the build. Raise Vigor toward a survivable range, wear the strongest physical and magic defense that remains medium load, and use an equip-load talisman if necessary. Jump only after Radahn commits; a jump does not protect you from an active gravity explosion or meteor impact.
Common mistakes and fixes
Heavy rolling because of “better” armor
Symptom: arrows and sword sweeps catch you before the roll finishes. Fix: remove a piece, use lighter alternatives, or equip an equip-load talisman until the load is below 70%, preferably within medium load.
Greedy status buildup
Symptom: you nearly trigger bleed or frost but die during the final hits. Fix: stop after the safe part of the string and let the next opening finish the buildup. Status pressure is cumulative; it does not require one uninterrupted attack.
Ignoring Pierce because a weapon is familiar
Symptom: your slashing weapon feels slow to convert openings into damage. Fix: test a spear, rapier, or piercing arrows if your attributes support them. Pierce is listed as one of Radahn’s weaknesses, and thrusting attacks also support safer spacing.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Failing to resummon
Symptom: phase two becomes a solo chase after the first group dies. Fix: look for returning summon signs after the meteor transition and call allies back whenever possible.
Using a talisman for an attack you never perform
Symptom: the talisman’s bonus rarely activates. Fix: match the effect to your actual pattern—jump, charged, repeated fast hits, defense, or equip load—and change it between attempts if your strategy changes.
Rewards and what the fight confirms
Defeating Starscourge Radahn awards 70,000 runes, the Remembrance of the Starscourge, and Radahn’s Great Rune according to Plarium’s 2025 guide. The encounter also tests whether your equipment choices serve movement and timing. A medium-load weapon you can upgrade and use consistently, paired with a talisman that solves your specific weakness, is more valuable than an abstractly stronger loadout that leaves you unable to escape Radahn’s gravity attacks.
