Use the cloud provider’s resumable or multipart upload tool—usually its own command-line client—and verify the uploaded files before deleting the originals. A 100 GB transfer can take from minutes to many hours depending on sustained upload speed, and putting files in cloud storage does not necessarily prepare them for streaming playback.
Choose a resumable transfer, not a single fragile upload
For a library already stored on a computer with a reliable internet connection, start with the upload tool provided by the cloud storage destination. Its retry and resume features can preserve completed work when a connection drops, instead of forcing you to restart the entire library.

Google Cloud Storage recommends resumable uploads for large files. Its resumable-upload guidance says they avoid restarting from the beginning after a network failure. The gcloud storage cp and gcloud storage rsync commands use resumable uploads; after interruption, the same command can be run again. A resumable session can remain active for up to one week. For multi-file transfers, Google recommends --no-clobber when resuming to avoid uploading completed files again. See Google’s rsync guidance for command details.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsAmazon S3 multipart upload divides an object into parts that can be retried independently; if a part fails, it can be retransmitted without affecting the others. AWS recommends considering multipart upload for objects around 100 MB or larger. See AWS multipart-upload documentation.

Use the matching tool for the destination
- Google Cloud Storage: Use
gcloud storage cpfor copying files orgcloud storage rsyncfor synchronizing a directory. Consult the current command documentation for authentication, destination syntax, and options. - Amazon S3: Use a supported S3 client or transfer tool that handles multipart upload and retries. Confirm it is configured for the intended bucket and region.
- Another cloud provider: Use its documented resumable or multipart client where available. Do not assume a generic web upload form offers the same restart behavior.
Exact commands depend on the provider, bucket, local path, authentication setup, and tool version. Choose the destination first, then follow that provider’s current command documentation rather than copying a command with guessed paths or credentials.
Estimate how long the upload will take
Use a measured, sustained upload rate—not the advertised maximum speed of your internet plan. A real speed test is a starting point; a short transfer of representative files is better because it includes the effects of your source disk, Wi-Fi, protocol overhead, other network use, and the upload client.

For decimal units, 100 GB is about 800 gigabits. The following are idealized arithmetic estimates with no allowance for overhead or interruptions; they are not provider benchmarks or measured results.
| Sustained upload speed | Idealized time for 100 GB |
|---|---|
| 20 Mbps | About 11 hours 7 minutes |
| 100 Mbps | About 2 hours 13 minutes |
| 1 Gbps | About 13 minutes 20 seconds |
Actual time can be materially longer. If the test transfer is much slower than expected, check whether Wi-Fi, competing household traffic, source-disk reads, or client settings are limiting throughput before changing parallelism or chunk sizes. Such tuning can affect memory use, request counts, throughput, and recovery behavior.

Prepare and verify the library
- Choose the destination and region. Prefer storage the eventual streaming platform or CDN can use as an origin. Consider permissions, geography, access controls, residency needs, and recurring costs. Google Media CDN documents support for cloud storage, other cloud object stores, and publicly reachable HTTP origins; see its origin documentation.
- Make an inventory before transfer. Record expected file paths and, where practical, file sizes and checksums. Keep the local originals intact until the cloud copy is verified.
- Upload using the provider’s resumable or multipart tool. For a directory, use a client that can report failures and preserve completed files. Rerun an interrupted command only as the provider’s documentation specifies.
- Review completion evidence. Compare object counts and total bytes with the inventory, inspect failed-file logs, and compare checksums where supported. AWS documents server-side validation when a full-object checksum is supplied with a multipart upload. Do not automatically treat a multipart ETag as an MD5 checksum.
- Test representative files. Open several objects from the cloud origin and verify their contents. Test viewer playback after any required processing step, not merely after the upload completes.
- Remove local copies only after verification. Keep a backup if the library is important and the cloud copy is not itself part of a tested backup plan.
Understand the difference between cloud storage and streaming
A cloud bucket stores source files. It may not make them ready for smooth, adaptive on-demand playback. AWS’s video-on-demand guidance describes encoding and packaging content into segments and manifests before CloudFront distributes it. A typical AWS setup uses S3 for storage, MediaConvert for file-based processing, and CloudFront for delivery. See AWS’s VOD solution overview. Google’s media workload documentation describes VOD content fetched from Cloud Storage origins through a CDN; see Google Cloud’s media and entertainment architecture guidance.
If you need adaptive on-demand playback
Check the intended player or platform’s accepted input formats, encoding and packaging requirements, access controls, and delivery setup before transferring the entire library. Identify where viewers are located and estimate viewing traffic, because delivery can cost more than storage. If the files are already encoded and packaged in the format the platform expects, confirm that before paying to process them again.

If you need an archive or direct downloads
A full video processing and CDN pipeline may be unnecessary if the goal is only private storage or direct file downloads. Decide what users need to do with the files before buying encoding or delivery services.
Budget for the whole workflow
Storage is only one possible cost. Depending on the provider and architecture, account for storage region and class, upload requests, transfer-service charges, video processing, CDN delivery, egress, and how long the files will be retained. Google lists per-GB pricing for on-premises transfers with Storage Transfer Service; check the current region-specific pricing and estimate viewing egress before committing. AWS’s VOD guidance also illustrates that storage, processing, and delivery are separate parts of a workflow.

When to use a managed transfer service
A command-line upload is a reasonable starting point for a one-time 100 GB library on a computer with reliable internet. A managed service may be useful for recurring transfers, movement between storage systems, or a workflow that needs centralized control. Google describes Storage Transfer Service for transfers among cloud and on-premises storage systems; check its current route support and charges in the pricing details before choosing it.
When physical transfer might make sense
A shipped appliance or extra drive is not established as necessary for this case. Consider physical transfer only if the measured internet route is impractical, the media is already on removable storage that must be staged, or a provider offers a suitable service for your region and volume. Confirm availability, destination compatibility, lead time, and total cost directly before relying on it.
Troubleshoot common upload problems
- The transfer stops when the connection drops: Use a provider-supported resumable or multipart client, then follow its documented restart procedure. Avoid restarting with a tool that begins every file from zero.
- Some files are missing or duplicated: Compare object paths and counts against the inventory and inspect transfer logs. For Google multi-file resumes, use the documented
--no-clobberoption where appropriate. - The upload is slower than the estimate: Recheck sustained upload speed during a short trial. Test wired connectivity if possible, limit competing traffic, and check source-disk activity. Avoid blindly raising concurrency or chunk sizes.
- Checksums do not match: Do not delete the source. Identify which files differ and retransmit or investigate the transfer client’s validation output. For S3 multipart uploads, an ETag is not necessarily an MD5 checksum.
- Files uploaded but playback fails: Confirm the platform accepts the file format and whether encoding, packaging, permissions, or CDN configuration is required. Successful storage upload alone does not prove playback readiness.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a different use case—keeping uploaded prerecorded videos looping as a 24/7 YouTube live stream—StreamNeo is a cloud service, not a general-purpose 100 GB ingest destination. It plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The stream keeps running with your computer off; StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
There is one flat price per slot for any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, with no re-encode or quality tiers. Each slot includes 10 GB of storage, pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, and team support. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly: $9.99 per month.
