To replay a festival recording as a YouTube Live broadcast, add the video to OBS Studio as a Media Source, enable Loop, then send OBS’s output to a YouTube live stream using the server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. The loop happens in OBS; YouTube receives it as an encoder feed. Before broadcasting, make sure you have the rights to rebroadcast the recording and its music.
Before you set up the stream
Check whether your channel can go live
YouTube’s general live-streaming guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Its getting-started guidance also says streamers must be at least 16. First-time live-streaming enablement can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the festival broadcast. These are YouTube’s general rules; India-specific variations were not confirmed in the official guidance referenced here. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and setup guidance.

Confirm rights to the video and audio
Having a copy of a festival video, or the fact that the event was public, does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast it. YouTube says livestream providers are responsible for having the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation, including music rights, and for meeting applicable requirements in the territory where the stream is shown. The available official material does not settle what Indian permissions apply to a particular event, venue, organizer, recording, or soundtrack; check with the relevant rights holders and qualified local counsel where needed. Read YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, including another live broadcast. If it detects such content, it may replace the feed with a placeholder and warn you; if the content remains, the stream can be interrupted or terminated. Even licensed third-party material may cause interruption unless the rights owner adds your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Details are in YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.

Set up a YouTube Live encoder stream
-
Sign in to YouTube Studio and open the Live Control Room. Create or schedule a stream, then choose the encoder workflow. YouTube’s guide explains how to create an encoder stream and retrieve its connection details: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
-
Locate the stream’s stream URL and stream key in the Live Control Room. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Do not publish it or show it on screen.
-
Install and open OBS Studio. Keep the Live Control Room open so you can check its preview after OBS connects.

Loop one festival recording in OBS
-
In OBS, choose the scene that will carry the broadcast. In the Sources box, select + and add Media Source. Give it a recognizable name, such as “Festival recording.”
-
In the Media Source properties, select the local video file. Turn on Loop so the file starts again when playback finishes. OBS documents this setting as repeating the file after playback completes. Its Media Source documentation lists MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM among supported file types; consult the current OBS interface and guide if a format does not load: OBS Media Sources.
-
Check the scene preview. Confirm the video is framed as intended and that its audio is visible in OBS’s audio mixer. Play a short section and listen through the monitoring output before going live.

For a playlist rather than one file, OBS’s VLC Video source can use a playlist and has Loop Playlist enabled by default; VLC must be installed. For a single local recording, the built-in Media Source is the simpler choice. See the OBS source documentation.

Connect OBS to YouTube and start the broadcast
-
In OBS, open Settings and then Stream. Choose YouTube as the service if it is available in the current version, or select a custom service and enter YouTube’s server URL and your stream key from the Live Control Room. YouTube’s encoder instructions describe the URL-and-key connection method: YouTube encoder setup.
-
Apply the settings and select Start Streaming in OBS. Return to the Live Control Room and wait for the incoming feed preview. Check picture and sound there before making the stream public or starting the scheduled event.
-
Keep OBS running and monitor the feed for the duration of the broadcast. YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours before the event and starting it at least 15 minutes beforehand so there is time to confirm that the watch page is accessible and the audio and video are working. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
-
When finished, stop the feed from OBS and end the stream in YouTube Studio as appropriate. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume a longer broadcast will be archived. Refer to YouTube’s encoder instructions.

Bandwidth and long-broadcast reliability
A continuous broadcast depends on a stable upload connection as well as working playback. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the stream’s total bitrate and checking outbound upload capacity rather than relying on download speed. This is YouTube’s operational recommendation, not a guarantee that a connection will remain stable. Its streaming tips cover bandwidth and setup.

-
Use a wired connection when practical, and avoid saturating the connection with uploads or other traffic while live.
-
Check that the recording’s audio continues through the end and restart point. A looped picture with silent or abruptly cut audio is still a bad viewer experience.
-
Keep the computer awake and OBS open for the full DIY broadcast. If the computer, OBS, or its internet connection stops, the encoder feed can stop too.

Common problems and fixes
| Problem | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| OBS is not sending a feed to YouTube | The server URL or stream key is missing, incorrect, or belongs to a different stream. | Copy the current URL and key from that stream’s Live Control Room and re-enter them in OBS. Check YouTube’s encoder setup steps. |
| The recording stops instead of repeating | Loop is off on the selected Media Source, or the wrong source is playing. | Open the source properties, confirm the intended file is selected, and enable Loop. OBS documents the behavior in its Media Sources guide. |
| The video appears but there is no sound | The file may lack the expected audio track, or the source may not be reaching the OBS audio mixer. | Play the file locally, inspect OBS’s mixer meters during playback, and listen to a test preview in the Live Control Room before the public start. |
| The preview is delayed or the stream drops | Upload capacity may be insufficient or competing traffic may be using bandwidth. | Check upload speed and bitrate, leave YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, and reduce competing network use. See YouTube’s streaming tips. |
| YouTube interrupts or replaces the feed | Automated systems may have identified third-party content, including music or another broadcast. | Review the rights for every part of the recording and follow the notice in YouTube Studio. Licensed material may still need the rights holder to allowlist your channel. See YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance. |
| Live streaming is unavailable on the channel | The channel may not be verified, may have a restriction, or may not have completed first-time enablement. | Check YouTube’s eligibility guidance and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation: Get started with live streaming. |
