Start at FOV 90–100, use Independent ADS FOV if available, and begin mouse tuning at 800 DPI, 0.70–0.80 sensitivity, a 1.00 ADS multiplier, and zero acceleration. These settings preserve distant silhouettes and consistent input without sacrificing the frame stability needed when tanks, aircraft, destruction, and infantry share the screen.
WARDOGS is in Early Access, so treat these as practical community baselines rather than permanent competitive standards. WardogsBuild marked its settings guide “Updated 25 Sep 2026 · Early Access,” and the other published guides likewise recommend checking the configuration after patches.

Use this baseline first
Apply the following profile before changing individual values. It prioritizes information: seeing a vehicle or soldier early, keeping that target readable, and delivering frames consistently while you track it.
| Area | Starting value | Why it is the starting point |
|---|---|---|
| Quality preset | Custom | Leaves each visibility and performance control adjustable. |
| View Distance | High | The most important long-range rendering setting in the published guides. |
| Shadows | Low | Removes expensive shadow detail without giving up target range. |
| Reflections | Low | Reduces distracting and costly surface effects. |
| Global Illumination | Off | Frees performance and reduces lighting complexity. |
| Particle Spawn Rate | Low | Keeps explosions and destruction from overwhelming the image. |
| Effects | Medium; Low if necessary | Retains some readability while providing a fallback for weaker hardware. |
| Shading | Low | Places clarity and frame delivery ahead of lighting quality. |
| Post-Processing | Low | Limits non-essential image processing. |
| Motion Blur, Depth of Field, Bloom, Lens Flare | Off | Prevents cinematic effects from softening or obscuring silhouettes. |
| World and Character Textures | High when VRAM allows | Sharper surfaces can make characters and vehicles easier to distinguish. |
| Texture streaming | Keep high until the VRAM indicator approaches its limit | Lower it only when memory pressure causes problems. |
| Resolution | Monitor native resolution | Preserves the clearest distant image. |
| VSync | Off | Avoids adding the synchronization delay associated with the setting. |
| Frame cap | At the monitor refresh rate, or slightly below with adaptive sync | A consistent delivery rate is more useful than an unstable peak. |
| NVIDIA Reflex | On, when compatible hardware supports it | Uses the low-latency option recommended by the guides. |
| Upscaling | Quality first; Balanced only if more frames are needed | Quality is the safer clarity compromise; Balanced trades some sharpness for speed. |
Do not lower View Distance first just to gain a few frames. The recommended order is to preserve distance rendering and, when possible, textures, then reduce shadows, lighting, reflections, particles, and post-processing. A steady frame rate during explosions and collapsing structures makes aiming easier than a higher average that repeatedly stutters.

Why visibility settings matter more than maximum detail
WARDOGS fights can contain infantry, vehicles, aircraft, effects, and as many as 100 players according to ExitLag’s 2026 coverage. In that environment, the useful question is not “Which preset looks best?” but “Which information reaches my eyes soon enough to act?”
View Distance determines whether a distant silhouette is rendered clearly enough to identify. Shadows, reflections, global illumination, particles, and post-processing consume the headroom that would otherwise keep frame delivery stable. They can also add visual motion that resembles a target. Turning off Motion Blur, Depth of Field, Bloom, and Lens Flare removes effects that have no tactical value when you are scanning a ridge or following a tank.
Textures are the exception to the aggressive-low approach. High World and Character Textures can preserve the edge detail that separates a soldier from terrain. Keep them high while the VRAM meter remains comfortable. If the indicator nears its limit, lower texture streaming before sacrificing View Distance. This is a memory decision, not a universal “high is always better” rule.

Cap the game to the monitor’s refresh rate. With adaptive sync, a cap slightly below that refresh rate can keep the display inside its variable-refresh range. Leave VSync off in the baseline and use NVIDIA Reflex when the hardware supports it. The goal is repeatable frame delivery: your mouse movement should produce the same visual response when a blast wave, building collapse, or vehicle convoy enters view.
When to use upscaling
Run the monitor’s native resolution first. If the GPU cannot hold the target frame rate, choose the Quality upscaling mode before changing the visibility hierarchy. Move to Balanced only when Quality is not enough; the extra frames can be worthwhile, but the softer image may make a faraway infantry outline harder to confirm. Recheck the choice after a major patch because Early Access performance can change.

Choose FOV for the fights you actually take
Field of view is a trade-off, not a reflex setting. A wider view shows more of the sides of your screen, while a narrower view makes a distant target occupy more pixels. Use the following ranges as starting points rather than exact answers.
| Primary situation | Starting FOV | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Balanced infantry play | 90–100 | Enough peripheral awareness without making distant soldiers excessively small. |
| Long-range rifles or vehicle engagements | About 85–90 | Targets appear larger, but you give up some peripheral coverage. |
| Close-range zone pushes or flight | 100–110 | More side awareness, with noticeably smaller distant silhouettes. |
WardogsBuild publishes a broader 95–110 range, while ExitLag recommends 90–95 for a balanced view. ExitLag also warns that values above roughly 105–110 shrink distant targets. Those differences reflect playstyle, display size, and personal tracking ability; they are not evidence that one number is correct for every player.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsSet ADS FOV deliberately
Choose Independent ADS FOV when the option is available if you want the sight picture to remain predictable while changing your base FOV. Affected can scale the aiming view with the base setting instead. AllThings. How lists FOV 95 and records ADS FOV as Affected in its own configuration, which shows that guides do not treat this option uniformly.
Test both modes at the same range with the same weapon. Aim at a fixed distant object, move from hip fire to ADS, and observe whether the target’s size and tracking feel consistent. Keep the mode that gives you a repeatable sight picture; do not select a label because it appears in a copied configuration.
Build a repeatable mouse and ADS setup
Start at 800 DPI, 0.70–0.80 in-game sensitivity, an ADS multiplier of 1.00, and mouse acceleration at 0.00. AllThings. How specifies 800 DPI and 0.70 sensitivity; WardogsBuild calls 0.8 at 800 DPI a common starting point. Neither source presents the values as a universal competitive setting.

Calibrate in a controlled way
- Set the DPI, sensitivity, ADS multiplier, and acceleration values above.
- Enter the firing range and choose a repeatable reference point.
- Perform a comfortable 180-degree swipe from a marked starting position. The swipe should turn you around without forcing your wrist into an awkward angle.
- Repeat the turn several times. If you consistently stop short, increase sensitivity slightly; if you pass the mark, decrease it.
- Test ADS tracking at the same distance. Change only one value at a time and retest the 180-degree swipe after each change.
- Keep the setting for several sessions before making another change. Constantly copying a new “pro” value prevents muscle memory from forming.
Use Hold for ADS if that matches your muscle memory; AllThings. How recommends Hold for predictable quick engagements. The important result is consistency between hip fire, aiming, and the next target rather than a particular decimal value.
Long-range and scope adjustments
For scopes and long shots, resist the temptation to chase a configuration copied from another player. Hand size, mouse surface, DPI, display resolution, and FOV all alter the same movement. Keep the 1.00 ADS multiplier until your base turn is stable, then make a small change only if your scoped tracking remains consistently too fast or too slow.
Make audio and HUD part of your warning system
Visual settings cannot show an enemy that is behind a wall or outside your current view. Enable 3D spatial audio when available. Keep Effects and UI volume high enough to hear footsteps, vehicle engines, gunfire, and hit information, and lower music if it masks those cues. Audio is especially valuable when a tank is approaching from behind cover or an aircraft is not yet visible.
Keep the adaptive crosshair enabled while learning weapon behavior. Set Cash, Killfeed, and equipped-item HUD elements to Always On so important state changes do not depend on a temporary notification. If nameplates create clutter during a large fight, reduce that clutter while retaining the information you use to identify friend and foe.
Survive tank and vehicle fights with information and cover
No graphics, FOV, or sensitivity value makes an exposed crossing safe. The settings above buy you time to react; positioning determines whether that time is useful.

Prepare before contact
- Keep View Distance High and frame delivery stable so tanks, infantry, and aircraft are readable before they enter lethal range.
- Move between hard cover rather than crossing open ground without information.
- Use the map and teammate pings to establish where a vehicle was last seen instead of waiting for a visual surprise.
- Set a middle-mouse ping if that key is comfortable, and keep map zoom synchronized with the scale at which you actually plan routes and mark threats. WardogsBuild lists both as useful keybind changes.
Spot first when attacking is risky
Spotting is a low-risk contribution when a direct duel would expose you. PC Gamer reported that binoculars cost $75 during the beta and could spot enemy soldiers, vehicles, and structures. A successful spot produced a small cash reward, while a teammate killing the marked target could produce an assist worth hundreds.
Those dollar amounts are historical beta figures, not current Early Access guarantees. PC Gamer also reported a $900 beta revive reward and a $1,200–$1,500 beta completed-build reward, while noting that the economy was expected to change for Early Access. Treat the binocular price and rewards as context for the role, not as a current farming plan. Check the live in-game economy after updates.
Use the vehicle fight’s visual rhythm
Scan the likely approach before exposing yourself, identify the vehicle’s direction, and move only after you know which cover protects the next position. If destruction fills the screen with particles, the low Particle Spawn Rate and disabled cinematic effects should leave the vehicle outline easier to follow. Keep listening for engines while watching the map; a sound cue can provide the warning that a narrow FOV cannot.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Choose a profile by hardware and playstyle
The same priorities apply across systems, but the compromise point changes. Use this decision table instead of treating “low” or “high” as a complete answer.
| Profile | Graphics approach | Input and FOV approach | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| GPU has comfortable VRAM and stable performance | High World/Character Textures, High View Distance, the low-effects baseline, native resolution, Quality upscaling only if needed | FOV 90–100, Independent ADS FOV, 800 DPI and 0.70–0.80 sensitivity | General infantry and mixed vehicle matches |
| GPU is near its frame target | Keep View Distance High; lower Effects to Low, retain disabled cinematic effects, then use Quality upscaling | Keep the same input baseline while you evaluate frame pacing | Competitive visibility when detail must be sacrificed |
| VRAM indicator approaches its limit | Lower texture streaming first; do not immediately sacrifice View Distance | Keep FOV moderate so distant target size is not reduced further | Preventing texture-memory problems while preserving range |
| Long-range rifle or vehicle specialist | Prioritize stable frames and distant clarity | FOV about 85–90; test Independent ADS FOV | Holding lanes and tracking vehicles |
| Close-range or flight-focused player | Use the baseline, accepting a little more performance pressure only if stable | FOV 100–110; expect smaller distant targets | Room clearing, zone pushes, and high-speed movement |
These are comparison axes, not locked classes: target size versus peripheral awareness, clarity versus frame rate, visual effects versus readable silhouettes, and input consistency versus turn speed. Hardware determines how much headroom you have, but visibility and stable delivery remain the first priorities.

Troubleshoot the most common problems
“Distant enemies disappear into the scene”
Confirm View Distance is High, use native resolution, and check that upscaling is still on Quality rather than Balanced. If your frame rate is already stable, verify that World and Character Textures are not needlessly reduced. If the target is still too small, lower FOV toward 90 or, for long-range work, about 85–90.
“The game looks sharp but stutters during destruction”
Keep View Distance and textures where possible, then lower Effects, Particle Spawn Rate, Shadows, Reflections, and Global Illumination in that order. Disable Motion Blur, Depth of Field, Bloom, and Lens Flare. Set a sensible frame cap instead of allowing an unstable peak. Use Quality upscaling, moving to Balanced only when the frame target remains unattainable.
“I see more of the map but cannot hit distant targets”
Your FOV may be too wide for the engagement distance. Test 90–100, then compare about 85–90 if rifles or vehicles dominate. Keep ADS FOV behavior consistent by comparing Independent and Affected at the same range.

Return to 800 DPI, 0.70–0.80 sensitivity, ADS 1.00, and acceleration 0.00. Repeat the 180-degree firing-range test and change one variable only. Do not adjust sensitivity and FOV simultaneously, because you will not know which change altered target tracking.
“I am surprised by vehicles I never saw”
Enable 3D spatial audio, raise Effects volume, lower music, and use map pings before entering open ground. Spotting with binoculars can provide earlier team information when a direct visual engagement is unsafe.
Recheck the setup after every meaningful patch
Early Access updates can alter performance, rendering, FOV behavior, audio, or the economy. After a patch, verify View Distance, texture streaming, frame cap, VSync, Reflex, upscaling, FOV, ADS FOV, sensitivity, and audio levels rather than assuming the previous profile survived unchanged. A quick firing-range 180-degree test and one scan across a long sightline are enough to catch accidental resets before a serious match.
The durable rule is simple: preserve the information that reveals a threat—distance rendering, readable textures, spatial audio, and stable frames—while cutting effects that only decorate the scene. Tune FOV and sensitivity around the distances you actually fight, then use cover, pings, and spotting to avoid giving vehicles an easy target.
