There is no TV setting that turns on PSSR: the PS5 Pro performs the upscaling, and only supported games use it. For the clearest view, enable Enhance PSSR Image Quality on the console, confirm the TV is receiving the resolution and features it supports, and set HDR deliberately. TV picture controls such as sharpness and motion processing have no universal recommended values; results vary by game and TV.
Enable the PS5 Pro’s PSSR image-quality option
- On the console, open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output.
- Turn on Enhance PSSR Image Quality. Sony says it is on by default and available only on PS5 Pro consoles in the CFI-7000 model group.
- Use it with a game designed to support PSSR. It is not a global picture-processing setting for every game. Sony says the option can improve image stability in titles designed for original PSSR, but results vary by title. See the PS5 Pro feature and game information.
PSSR is console-side upscaling, not a TV feature. Mark Cerny, Lead Architect for PS5 and PS5 Pro, described it in a February 27, 2026 PlayStation Blog post: “PSSR is an AI library that analyzes game images pixel by pixel as it upscales them, and it’s been used to boost the effective resolution of over 50 titles on PS5 Pro to date.” That is the dated total reported in that announcement, not a permanent count or a guarantee about a particular game. Sony’s announcement of the upgraded PSSR upscaler provides the context.

Check resolution and HDMI capabilities
In Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output, leave Resolution on Automatic unless you have a specific reason to choose otherwise. Automatic selects the highest resolution the TV supports. Check the console’s Connected HDMI Device information to see the resolution, HDR, and VRR capabilities it detects. Sony documents these output controls in its PS5 resolution and video output support guide.
If a capability you expect is missing, check that the TV and the specific HDMI input support the desired signal, and review the TV’s input settings. A television’s headline specification alone does not establish what the connected input is reporting to the console.

Set HDR for the content you play
Choose On When Supported if you want HDR games to display in HDR while non-HDR games and apps remain in SDR. Then use Adjust HDR on the PS5 Pro to set the console’s HDR output for your display. Always On sends non-HDR games and apps as HDR output; it does not make their source content authored in HDR.
Use 120 Hz, VRR, and ALLM only when supported
- 120 Hz: Enable or use it when the TV and game support the mode you want. It changes available output modes and smoothness, not the PSSR algorithm.
- VRR: Enable it when supported by the TV and game. It adjusts refresh rate in real time on compatible setups; Sony notes behavior and results vary by TV.
- ALLM: A compatible TV can switch automatically to a low-latency mode. Sony notes that VRR output can trigger low-latency behavior even when ALLM is off.
These options may affect how a game looks or feels through refresh behavior and available modes, but they do not make PSSR operate or improve its processing.

Leave Video Transfer Rate at its default unless troubleshooting flicker
Sony recommends trying -1 or -2 for Video Transfer Rate if flicker occurs. These settings limit some output formats or modes, including 4K at 120 Hz, so they are troubleshooting options rather than image-quality enhancements. Return to the default if the limitation is not needed.

Do not use 8K as a shortcut to better PSSR visibility
8K output matters only with a compatible 8K/60 Hz display that supports DSC. Sony notes that VRR is disabled during 8K output. If VRR matters to your setup, 8K output is therefore a trade-off, not a general way to see PSSR more clearly.

TV picture controls: avoid universal calibration claims
There is no evidence-based numeric setting for TV sharpness, motion interpolation, noise reduction, local dimming, or tone mapping that applies across models. These controls and their labels vary by manufacturer, and an unsupported recommendation could add processing rather than reveal game detail. Use the TV’s own game or low-latency mode if appropriate, and consult model-specific guidance for picture adjustments rather than applying a generic value.

Sony’s PS5 Pro page currently lists Enhanced PSSR support for Resident Evil Requiem, SILENT HILL f, SILENT HILL 2, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Alan Wake 2, Control, Monster Hunter Wilds, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Nioh 3, Rise of the Ronin, Crimson Desert, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and Cyberpunk 2077. Treat this as the list displayed on Sony’s page when checked, not as a permanent or exhaustive list; support can vary by title and game updates. The same page cautions that results vary by title.

There is no universal percentage improvement attributable to TV settings. To compare PSSR in a particular game, keep the TV’s picture mode and output settings consistent and use that game’s supported mode or options. Any visible difference belongs to that title and configuration, not to a TV setting that enables PSSR.
