Its Steam Deck test is dated May 6, 2022, so check the current Steam Store or Library compatibility details if you need the latest status.

Graphics: leave the defaults in place
The same record reports that Owlboy performs well with its default graphics configuration. The sources do not establish a particular resolution, frame-rate limit, graphics preset, TDP setting, or battery profile as necessary or tested, so there is no evidence-based custom optimization recipe to apply.

Built-in controls versus an external controller

Owlboy’s Steam listing specifies full support for SDL_GameController devices and lists SteamOS + Linux system requirements. That support statement does not remove the Deck-specific active-controller selection caveat noted in the SteamDB compatibility record.

When troubleshooting is warranted
External controller is connected but not controlling the game
- Connect the Bluetooth or USB controller.
- Open the Steam Deck Quick Access Menu and check the active controller selection.
- Select the external controller, then return to Owlboy.
SteamOS or the game is unstable
First install available system updates and restart the Deck, as Steam Support’s Steam Deck software and troubleshooting guide advises for general system instability. The Owlboy compatibility record lists the recommended runtime as native and reports successful SteamOS operation, so a compatibility override is not a standard setup requirement.
If a problem persists, Steam Support documents trying a compatibility tool from the game’s Steam Properties > Compatibility menu. Treat that as troubleshooting rather than an Owlboy-specific recommendation: the available game-specific evidence does not show that forcing Proton or another compatibility tool is required.

What the Verified label tells you
SteamDB records Owlboy as Steam Deck Verified, with a test timestamp of May 6, 2022. That is a dated compatibility result, not a claim of a fresh test in 2026. Valve describes Verified games as working well on Deck out of the box; its criteria include support for the Deck’s default resolution, good default settings, and legible text.
