Best documented support: eero Pro 6E and eero 6+, both listed by eero for guaranteed software security updates through August 31, 2031. If you specifically want Wi‑Fi 7 in a conventional single-router design, ASUS RT‑BE58U has a UK PSTI security-support date of December 31, 2028. NETGEAR’s Orbi 770 family is worth considering only after checking the exact regional SKU and its lifecycle entry.
These are not speed rankings. No independent throughput, range, latency or price testing is available for this comparison. The selection is based on the evidence that matters most for a router you plan to keep: a published security-support horizon, update policy, WPA3 capability, network-isolation controls and a clearly stated end-of-service process.

Quick comparison: which secure home router fits your priorities?
| Router or family | Topology and wireless generation | Published support information | Best fit | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| eero Pro 6E | Mesh router; Wi‑Fi 6E | Guaranteed software security updates listed through August 31, 2031 | Homes wanting the clearest, longest documented security horizon and a mesh system | Date is tied to eero’s model-support listing; availability and exact regional terms should be checked before purchase |
| eero 6+ | Mesh router; Wi‑Fi 6 | Guaranteed software security updates listed through August 31, 2031 | Homes that want eero’s published support horizon without choosing the 6E model | Do not assume every eero generation shares this date; first-generation eero’s guaranteed period ended September 30, 2022 |
| ASUS RT‑BE58U | Single router; Wi‑Fi 7 | UK PSTI security-support date of December 31, 2028 | Buyers who want a current Wi‑Fi 7 platform and a conventional standalone router | The cited date comes from ASUS’s UK PSTI support table and is geography- and product-group-specific |
| NETGEAR Orbi 770 family (RBE770 variants) | Mesh family; Wi‑Fi 7 | NETGEAR’s Singapore lifecycle page lists August 1, 2029 as an EOS date for multiple RBE770 variants | Existing NETGEAR buyers who can verify their exact SKU, market and lifecycle status | EOS means firmware, maintenance and security updates stop; the Singapore listing should not be generalized to every region |
If support longevity is your first filter, the two eero models are the strongest documented choices here because both have the same August 31, 2031 date. Choose the ASUS when Wi‑Fi 7 and a single-router layout matter more than having the latest date in this list. Treat the Orbi 770 as a conditional choice: confirm the regional SKU and support entry before spending money.

Why firmware support matters more than a router’s speed label
A router is the boundary between your home network and the internet. Its firmware controls wireless authentication, the web or app administration interface, firewall behavior, remote-access features and the code that handles network traffic. Vulnerabilities in any of those components can remain exploitable even when the router still delivers excellent wireless performance.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Wi‑Fi 6E or Wi‑Fi 7 describes radio capabilities, not how long the manufacturer will fix security defects. A newer standard can therefore be a poor long-term purchase if its vendor stops issuing patches early. Conversely, a slightly older Wi‑Fi generation can be the safer investment when the manufacturer publishes a longer, model-specific commitment.
Support dates also prevent a common buying mistake: treating “still sold” as equivalent to “still supported.” A product may remain in retailers’ inventories after a vendor has moved it into a maintenance-only phase or ended updates. Look for a documented security-support or end-of-service policy, not just a launch year or a promise that updates are automatic.
How the support commitments in this comparison work
eero’s five-year rule and model dates
eero states that a device receives guaranteed software security updates until at least five years after it is last available for purchase on eero’s websites. That is a rolling rule: the end date depends on when eero stops offering the specific model, rather than on a universal date shared by every product generation.

The date is a documented horizon for those models, not a guarantee that every eero product remains supported until then. eero’s first-generation eero, for example, reached the end of its guaranteed update period on September 30, 2022.
ASUS’s UK PSTI table
ASUS publishes support groups under the United Kingdom’s Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure (PSTI) framework. The RT‑BE58U appears in a group with a security-support end date of December 31, 2028. ASUS lists newer product groups with dates extending to December 31, 2029 and December 31, 2030, but those later dates should not be applied to the RT‑BE58U unless ASUS places that exact model in the relevant group.
Because this is a UK PSTI table, treat the date as UK-specific regulatory support information. A router bought in another country may have different documentation, regional firmware or a different sales and support lifecycle.

NETGEAR’s end-of-service boundary
NETGEAR’s lifecycle policy is explicit about what happens after End of Service (EOS): an EOS product no longer receives firmware updates, maintenance releases or security updates. NETGEAR warns that such products are more exposed to vulnerabilities because newly discovered defects will not be fixed.
On NETGEAR’s Singapore lifecycle page, multiple consumer Wi‑Fi router SKUs in the Orbi 770 family (RBE770 variants) are listed with an EOS date of August 1, 2029. That is useful evidence for those entries, but it is not a universal Orbi 770 date. Check the exact model number, hardware revision and country page before relying on it.
eero Pro 6E: the clearest long-horizon mesh choice
The eero Pro 6E is the strongest match for a household that wants a mesh topology and a clearly documented security horizon. eero lists guaranteed software security updates through August 31, 2031, the latest date attached to a specific product in this comparison.
Why it stands out
- The support date is model-specific rather than inferred from the Wi‑Fi generation.
- eero’s policy explains the mechanism behind its guarantee: at least five years after a device is last available for purchase on eero’s websites.
- It supports WPA2, hybrid WPA2/WPA3 and WPA3-only modes, giving you a migration path for older and newer clients.
- Its mesh design lets you use multiple nodes when one router cannot provide reliable coverage throughout the home.
What to verify before buying
- Confirm that the listing is for the Pro 6E, not a similarly named or older eero model.
- Check the current regional availability and support page, because the five-year calculation depends on when eero stops selling the model on its own websites.
- Decide whether all important client devices can use the security mode you intend to select. WPA3-only can exclude older equipment.
eero 6+: the value-oriented documented-support alternative
The eero 6+ is another direct mesh candidate with guaranteed software security updates listed through August 31, 2031. Its published date matches the Pro 6E, so the support decision between these two models should be based on your network’s wireless requirements, topology and client compatibility rather than assuming one receives patches for longer.
When the 6+ makes sense
- You want eero’s documented support horizon and mesh approach but do not specifically require the Pro 6E model.
- Your household has a mixture of modern and older Wi‑Fi devices and benefits from a gradual WPA2-to-WPA3 transition.
- You prefer a system whose support policy is easy to explain and check by model.
Avoid generation-by-generation assumptions
The first-generation eero’s guaranteed update period ended September 30, 2022. That example demonstrates why you must check the exact model name and support entry. A current eero date cannot be transferred to every older eero node in an existing mesh.

ASUS RT‑BE58U: a documented Wi‑Fi 7 single-router option
The ASUS RT‑BE58U is the clearest choice in this list for someone who wants a Wi‑Fi 7 platform in a conventional standalone router. ASUS’s UK PSTI support table gives the product group containing this model a security-support end date of December 31, 2028.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Reasons to choose it
- It is identified as a Wi‑Fi 7 router rather than a previous-generation model.
- It suits homes that prefer one centrally placed router over a multi-node mesh system.
- ASUS provides a dated support commitment instead of leaving buyers to infer longevity from the product’s launch year.
Limitations of the published date
December 31, 2028 is earlier than the eero dates in this comparison. It is also explicitly associated with ASUS’s UK PSTI grouping. If you are outside the UK, locate the support information for your market and exact SKU. Do not apply ASUS’s December 31, 2029 or December 31, 2030 dates for newer product groups to the RT‑BE58U without an explicit model listing.
NETGEAR Orbi 770: consider it only after lifecycle verification
The Orbi 770 family (RBE770 variants) represents a Wi‑Fi 7 mesh option, but its support evidence requires more checking than the eero and ASUS entries. NETGEAR’s Singapore lifecycle page lists August 1, 2029 as the EOS date for multiple RBE770 variants.
What EOS means in practice
On the EOS date, NETGEAR says the product will no longer receive firmware updates, maintenance releases or security updates. A router does not stop routing traffic at that moment, but its risk profile changes: vulnerabilities disclosed afterward may remain unpatched, and compatibility problems are less likely to receive fixes.
Checks to perform before purchase
- Read the label or retailer listing and record the complete model number, such as the specific RBE770 variant.
- Open NETGEAR’s lifecycle page for the country where you will use the router.
- Match the exact SKU and hardware revision, not merely the “Orbi 770” family name.
- Write down the listed EOS date and set a replacement reminder well before it arrives.
If the regional page does not show a date for your SKU, treat the support horizon as unconfirmed rather than assuming the Singapore date applies.
WPA3, WPA2 and 6 GHz: configure security without breaking your network
NETGEAR recommends keeping router firmware, devices and browsers up to date and changing the Wi‑Fi security option to WPA3 when the router supports it. eero supports WPA2, a hybrid WPA2/WPA3 mode and WPA3-only mode. Devices using the 6 GHz band require WPA3.
Choosing a mode
- WPA3-only: strongest of the listed options, but older clients that lack WPA3 will not connect.
- WPA2/WPA3 transition or hybrid mode: practical for homes migrating gradually; newer clients can use WPA3 while compatible older devices continue on WPA2.
- WPA2: widest legacy compatibility, but it does not provide the protection of WPA3 for clients that support the newer standard.
A safe migration sequence
- Update the router and client devices before changing wireless security.
- Make a list of essential equipment, including printers, cameras, televisions, speakers and older smart-home products.
- Enable the hybrid WPA2/WPA3 mode first, if your router offers it.
- Reconnect and test every important device, paying particular attention to 6 GHz clients, which require WPA3.
- Move to WPA3-only only when you have confirmed that no required device depends on WPA2.
Security mode is a network decision, not a badge to select once and forget. Recheck compatibility whenever you add an older IoT product or replace a client device.

Security setup checklist for any router you keep for years
A long support date helps only if the router is configured and maintained safely. Apply these controls after installation:
- Install current firmware: use the vendor’s update mechanism and check for updates regularly if automatic installation is not enabled.
- Use WPA3 where practical: choose WPA3-only for a fully compatible network or a WPA2/WPA3 transition mode during migration.
- Disable remote management: NETGEAR specifically recommends disabling remote management unless you have a clear, controlled reason to use it.
- Separate guests and IoT devices: create a guest or dedicated IoT network so untrusted equipment is not placed on the same network as computers, storage and work devices.
- Replace default administration credentials: use a unique, long administrator password and store it in a password manager.
- Review connected clients: remove unknown devices and investigate unexpected management or login alerts.
- Retire unsupported hardware: do not keep an EOS router at the internet edge merely because it still appears to function.
Mesh versus a single router: choose the topology before the brand
Mesh is appropriate when coverage is the problem
The eero Pro 6E, eero 6+ and Orbi 770 are mesh-oriented choices. A mesh system is useful when the home has multiple floors, thick walls or a layout that makes one central router impractical. Nodes can be positioned to provide more consistent access than moving a single router to an awkward compromise location.
Mesh also adds management complexity: every node must remain on a supported firmware version, and replacing one unit may require checking compatibility with the remaining units. Buy a complete, supported family rather than mixing generations without confirmation.
A single router is simpler when placement is favorable
The ASUS RT‑BE58U is the standalone-router candidate in this comparison. One router means fewer devices to update and fewer placement decisions. It works best when a central location can serve the areas that need wireless access. If walls or distance create dead zones, adding extenders or access points introduces another support and security decision.
How to compare support dates without being misled
Use this checklist whenever you compare another model with the routers above:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Find a vendor-published date: prefer a model-specific security-support or EOS entry over a retailer’s “new” label.
- Identify the geography: record whether the policy is UK, Singapore, global or another regional program.
- Match the SKU: variants and hardware revisions can have different dates.
- Understand the endpoint: “security updates until” and “EOS on” are different ways of stating when support stops; after EOS, NETGEAR says updates cease.
- Check update delivery: determine whether the vendor provides automatic updates, an app workflow or manual downloads, and keep the administration path available.
- Plan replacement: purchase with enough remaining support time to justify the installation effort, not merely the lowest current price.
Which router should you buy?
Choose eero Pro 6E when documented longevity is the deciding factor
It has the latest explicitly listed support date in this comparison—August 31, 2031—and a mesh design. It is the straightforward recommendation for a home that wants a long, publicly stated security horizon and the flexibility of WPA2, hybrid WPA2/WPA3 or WPA3-only operation.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Choose eero 6+ when you want the same listed horizon in the eero range
The eero 6+ is also listed through August 31, 2031. Select it when its specific capabilities and your client mix fit better than the Pro 6E, while still verifying the model listing and regional availability.
Choose ASUS RT‑BE58U for Wi‑Fi 7 in a standalone design
Its UK PSTI date of December 31, 2028 provides a documented baseline, and its single-router format suits homes where central placement is adequate. Buyers outside the UK should verify the applicable local support information.
Choose Orbi 770 only after confirming your local lifecycle entry
The family can make sense for an existing NETGEAR mesh setup, but the cited August 1, 2029 EOS date comes from NETGEAR’s Singapore page and applies to listed RBE770 variants. Verify your exact regional SKU before purchase and budget for replacement before EOS.
Planning for the end of support
Put the documented date in your calendar when you install the router. Begin evaluating replacements months before the deadline, allowing time to migrate wireless names, reconnect IoT devices and dispose of the old hardware securely. If a vendor announces an earlier withdrawal, a critical unpatched vulnerability or a change to the support policy, move that timetable forward.
The practical definition of a secure long-term router is therefore simple: a model with a published support commitment, a current security configuration and an owner who verifies updates and lifecycle status. On the evidence available here, eero Pro 6E and eero 6+ provide the clearest documented horizon, ASUS RT‑BE58U is the dated Wi‑Fi 7 single-router alternative, and NETGEAR Orbi 770 requires the most careful regional verification.
