GoFullPage is the best default for most Chromebook users. It turns a long webpage into one full-page image with a single extension click, and its FAQ says it works in Chromium browsers. Choose FullPage Capture if you need built-in editing, blur or pixelation, or PDF export. Choose Screenshot with URL for support and QA work where the address, timestamp, recording, network data, or console logs matter. If you do not want to install an extension, use Chrome DevTools as the built-in fallback.
No tool captures every page perfectly. Protected PDFs, custom JavaScript scrolling, virtualized lists, embedded frames, and unusual web applications can produce incomplete or duplicated sections. The right choice depends less on the word “screenshot” than on the page type, output format, editing needs, and whether you need diagnostic context.

Output formats, permissions, and privacy disclosures can change. Check the current Chrome Web Store listing before installing, and treat any “local only,” “no analytics,” or “no network requests” wording as the publisher’s statement rather than an independent security certification.

Start with the page, not the app name
For a conventional article, documentation page, product page, or static report that scrolls with the browser window, a scrolling extension is usually the shortest route. GoFullPage is the sensible first install because its purpose is specifically full-page capture and its normal workflow is a single click.

Pages that contain their own scrollable panels need a different test. A dashboard may keep the browser window fixed while a table, chat panel, or embedded document scrolls inside an iframe or a nested element. FullPage Capture explicitly describes support for iframes and inner scrollers, so it is the stronger candidate when the content you need is not controlled by the main page scroll bar.
For a bug report, a bare image may not be enough. The person receiving it may need the exact address, time, browser state, console error, or network request. Screenshot with URL is designed for that kind of evidence.
Decide the final format before capturing
- Use PNG when sharp text, diagrams, or interface elements matter.
- Use JPEG when a smaller photographic image is acceptable.
- Use WebP when the chosen tool supports it and the recipient accepts that format.
- Use PDF when the result must be shared as a document or printed, but confirm that the extension’s PDF export preserves the page as expected.
The listings do not establish that every tool produces identical visual quality or file sizes. Do not infer a speed, accuracy, or compression advantage from the available format list.
Check permissions and privacy claims
A full-page extension must inspect or interact with the page it captures. Before installing, read the permissions shown in the current listing and decide whether they fit the pages you will open. FullPage Capture, Screenshot with URL, and Full Page Screenshot each make local-processing or on-device claims in their listings; those claims describe the publishers’ stated behavior and are not an independent audit. Avoid capturing confidential pages unless your organization has approved the extension.
GoFullPage: the best default for ordinary webpages
GoFullPage is the straightforward recommendation when your goal is simply to turn a long, normally scrolling page into one image. Its official site calls it “The most reliable full page screenshot in just a single click.” That is marketing language from the maker, not an independent performance test. The Chrome Web Store listing identifies Manifest V3 support and its version history records continuing capture fixes.

Install and capture
- Open Chrome on the Chromebook and visit the Chrome Web Store.
- Search for GoFullPage. Confirm that the publisher, permissions, and current listing match the extension you intend to use.
- Select Add to Chrome and approve the installation prompt.
- Open the webpage you need to capture. Let visible images, fonts, and expandable sections finish loading first.
- Open the Extensions menu, pin GoFullPage if you want it beside the address bar, and select its camera icon.
- Leave the tab alone while it scrolls through the page. When the result opens, use the available download or export control and select the format offered by the current version.
Do not switch tabs or interact with the page during the automated scroll. A page that changes layout while it is being captured can produce repeated content or gaps, even when the extension itself is working as designed.
When GoFullPage is the wrong choice
GoFullPage’s FAQ specifically warns about protected PDF documents and pages whose scrolling is controlled by custom JavaScript. A protected PDF may block the normal page-reading method, while a web app that scrolls an internal container may never expose its complete content to a standard full-page pass. If the output stops early, repeats a section, or contains only the visible viewport, do not keep retrying indefinitely; move to FullPage Capture, Screenshot with URL, or a manual/DevTools workflow after identifying which element actually scrolls.

FullPage Capture: editing, nested scrollers, and PDF export
FullPage Capture is the better fit when the screenshot needs work before you send it. Its listing describes one-click scrolling capture for long pages, including iframes and inner scrollers, with annotation, blur, pixelation, and PNG, JPEG, or PDF export. It also states that files stay on the device and that no account, analytics, or network requests are required; those are product disclosures rather than independently verified guarantees.
A practical workflow
- Install FullPage Capture from the Chrome Web Store after reviewing the current permissions and privacy text.
- Open the target page and identify whether the content is in the main document, an iframe, or a nested scrolling panel.
- Start the extension’s capture command and wait for the complete scroll cycle.
- Use the editor to crop irrelevant browser content, add an arrow or note, or blur and pixelate sensitive text.
- Choose PNG, JPEG, or PDF according to the recipient’s needs, then open the saved file to verify that annotations and long sections were retained.
Blur and pixelation are useful for removing names, email addresses, order numbers, or account details before sharing. They are not a substitute for checking the original page: if sensitive text appears elsewhere in the capture, edit every occurrence or recapture a narrower area.
Screenshot with URL: the support and testing specialist
Screenshot with URL combines three capture scopes—full page, visible area, and selected area—with context that is valuable during troubleshooting. Its listing describes URL-bar and timestamp context, PDF/JPEG/PNG export, screen recording with audio, an editor, and network and console-log capture. Use the smallest scope that proves the issue
- Full page: document a complete flow, long form, or page layout.
- Visible area: show exactly what a user sees at the moment an error appears.
- Selected area: isolate one control, message, or table cell and avoid exposing unrelated data.
For customer support, the URL and timestamp can save a follow-up question about which environment produced the image. For engineering work, a console or network capture can explain why a screenshot looks wrong, but include those logs only when they are necessary and safe to share.
Recording versus a still image
A still image is better for a stable visual defect. Recording with audio is more appropriate when the problem depends on a sequence—such as a menu closing, a redirect, or a failed upload. Explain to the recipient what is shown and remove unrelated audio or personal information before distributing the file.
Full Page Screenshot: a flexible format-focused option
The Full Page Screenshot listing describes full-page, region, element, visible-area, and responsive captures, with PNG, JPEG, WebP, and PDF output plus hotkeys. That range is useful when you alternate between a complete document, one DOM element, and a mobile-width rendering.
Because the available evidence does not establish an independent speed or quality ranking, choose this extension for its capture modes and format support rather than assuming it is more accurate than GoFullPage. Review its current permissions and local-only processing statement before use, particularly on work accounts.
Chrome DevTools: capture without installing an extension
Chrome includes screenshot commands in DevTools. Google’s documentation explains that the Command Menu can run screenshot actions, including Capture area screenshot. The exact full-size command can vary by Chrome version, so verify what appears in your Chromebook’s installed build.

Open the Command Menu
- Open the webpage in Chrome.
- Open DevTools with
Ctrl+Shift+I. If that shortcut is unavailable on your keyboard layout, open Chrome’s menu and choose the developer-tools entry. - Focus DevTools and press
Ctrl+Shift+Pto open the Command Menu. - Type
screenshot. - Select Capture area screenshot for a manually defined region, or select the full-size command shown in your version if one is available.
- For an area capture, drag across the page region you need and save the generated image.
DevTools is useful when extensions are blocked by policy, when you are working on a sensitive page, or when you want to avoid granting an extension access to every site. It is less convenient for repeated, polished captures because you must navigate the developer interface each time.

The image stops before the bottom
Check whether the page uses an internal scroll container rather than the browser window. Try FullPage Capture, which advertises inner-scroller and iframe support, or capture the relevant element/region separately. If the page is a protected PDF, GoFullPage’s documented limitation may apply; use the PDF viewer’s own permitted export or a manual capture approved for that document.
Sections repeat or appear out of order
Pause animations, close expanding menus, and wait for lazy-loaded images to finish before starting. Pages that reflow while the extension scrolls can change their height between passes. A virtualized list may render only the rows near the viewport, so a single scrolling screenshot may not contain every item; capture smaller ranges or use the application’s own export when available.
An iframe is blank
Confirm that the frame has loaded and that you are allowed to capture it. Use a tool that explicitly advertises iframe support, such as FullPage Capture, and test the result on a non-sensitive page first. Cross-origin or protected content can still impose restrictions that no extension can bypass legitimately.
The page uses custom JavaScript scrolling
GoFullPage’s FAQ calls out custom-scrolling pages as a failure case. Identify the element that moves when you scroll, then use an inner-scroller-capable extension, a selected-area sequence, or the site’s own export. Do not assume that dragging the browser scrollbar will expose content managed by a web app.
Text is tiny or unreadable
Capture at the page’s normal zoom first, then crop the relevant section in an editor. A single extremely long image can be awkward to read; PDF export or several focused captures may communicate the information better than one compressed panorama.
A repeatable Chromebook capture checklist
- Decide whether you need a full page, visible viewport, selected region, element, or recording.
- Check for nested scrolling, iframes, protected documents, and content that loads only after interaction.
- Choose the least-privileged route that meets the need: DevTools for no installation, GoFullPage for a normal page, FullPage Capture for nested content and editing, or Screenshot with URL for diagnostics.
- Review the extension’s current permissions and privacy disclosures.
- Close pop-ups, stop unnecessary animations, and wait for images and fonts to load.
- Capture without changing tabs or scrolling manually during an automated pass.
- Crop, annotate, blur, or pixelate confidential information before sharing.
- Open the exported file and inspect the top, middle, and bottom of a long result for missing or duplicated content.
- Send the format your recipient can open, along with the page URL or timestamp only when that context is appropriate and safe.
Which tool should you install?
Choose GoFullPage when
You mostly capture ordinary webpages and want the fastest one-click workflow. Start here unless you already know the page contains nested scrolling or needs substantial editing.
Choose FullPage Capture when
You need blur, pixelation, annotations, PDF output, or a better chance of capturing iframes and inner scrollers. Its local-file and no-account statements may also suit users who want an on-device workflow, subject to the publisher’s current disclosure.

Choose DevTools when
You cannot install extensions, work under an organizational policy, or prefer Chrome’s built-in tooling. Use the Command Menu and confirm the full-size command available in your Chrome version.
