For most iPhone users, Apple’s built-in Screen Recording control is the best place to start: it captures the screen without installing another app, can include microphone audio, and saves the result to Photos. Choose a third-party recorder only if its advertised controls, face-camera features, editing tools, or sharing workflow solve a specific need.
The app details below are based on current US App Store listings accessed October 3, 2026—not hands-on testing. Features, compatibility, ratings, prices, and limits can change, and availability may differ by region.

When the built-in iPhone recorder is enough
Apple includes screen recording in Control Center. It is suitable for capturing an app demonstration, tutorial, or gameplay clip when you do not need a separate recording interface or bundled editing and export tools. Recordings appear in Photos under the Screen Recordings media type.
Start a screen recording
- Open Control Center. The gesture depends on your iPhone model and iOS version; use the standard Control Center gesture for your device.
- Tap the Screen Recording control. A three-second countdown begins.
- Switch to the app or screen you want to capture and perform the actions to record.
- Stop the recording using the recording indicator or the Screen Recording control in Control Center.
- Open Photos and find the saved recording in the Screen Recordings media type.
Include your voice
- In Control Center, press and hold the Screen Recording control before starting.
- Turn on Microphone.
- Tap Start Recording and wait for the countdown.
Apple notes two important restrictions: “Some apps might not allow you to record their content, and you can’t record your screen and use screen mirroring at the same time.” If a recording is blank or unavailable in a particular app, the app may be blocking capture; switching to a third-party recorder does not guarantee that restriction can be bypassed.

Third-party iPhone screen recorders to consider
The following examples have different advertised feature sets. The listings do not establish which app produces the most reliable, easiest, or best-looking recording, so treat the claims as features to verify for your device and workflow—not as test results.
Screen Recorder
The US App Store listing advertises screen capture with resolution, bitrate, and frame-rate controls; face-camera reactions; dual-camera recording; audio recording; and an integrated editor. The listing showed 4.5 stars from 34K ratings when accessed October 3, 2026. It also displayed premium weekly and yearly subscriptions, including $4.99 weekly and $49.99 annually with a three-day free trial. These are storefront snapshots, not guaranteed current prices or terms; check the listing in your region before subscribing.

Record it! :: Screen Recorder
The US App Store listing advertises configurable recording quality and encoder/audio options, commentary, editing and organization, and exports to Photos, AirDrop, Files, email, or compatible apps. The listing showed 4.6 stars from 454K ratings when accessed October 3, 2026. It states that sharing is limited to 10-minute videos and that Record It! Pro enables longer sharing. Confirm the current limit, Pro terms, and compatibility in the listing; the figures and terms can change.

Check compatibility and recording limits before installing
- Read the current App Store listing for its required iOS version and supported devices. Compatibility and features can vary by app version and region.
- Confirm whether the feature you want—such as face-camera recording, quality controls, or an export destination—is available on your device and in your location.
- Check subscription pricing, trial duration, renewal terms, and any length or export restrictions in the listing before starting a trial.
- Some apps may block screen capture, and screen recording cannot be used at the same time as screen mirroring, according to Apple’s iPhone screen-recording guidance.
Apple’s developer sample describes a system content-sharing picker for apps that capture selected content, including audio, recording, and camera controls. It describes recording to a file, a rolling buffer of up to 15 seconds, and camera preview during in-app captures; the sample requires a device running iOS 27 or later. This is developer material about platform capabilities, not a consumer recorder recommendation or a substitute for checking an app’s current requirements.
