Use Satisfactory Mod Manager (SMM) to install Satisfactory mods on PC. Run the game once to its title screen, download SMM from ficsit.app or smm.ficsit.app, let it detect your Steam or Epic installation, and click the download arrow beside a mod. SMM places the mod, its dependencies, and Satisfactory Mod Loader (SML) in the correct locations, so you do not manually unzip files.
The recommendations below cover factory automation, building, power, graphics, difficulty, and complete overhauls. They reflect the mod line-up described as current for Satisfactory 1.2 in 2026 guides; always check an individual mod page before updating because SML and major mods can trail a game update by days or weeks.

What you need to know before modding Satisfactory
Satisfactory mods are distributed through ficsit.app and SMM, not through Steam Workshop. SMM is both the installer and the dependency manager. When you select a mod, it can fetch required libraries and SML automatically, reducing the risk of putting files in the wrong directory.

- [Games need exclusions and runtimes, not malware]Some customers ask why our retro game drives can trigger Windows Security warnings. Many game files are older DLLs that Windows Defender sometimes flags as threats. They are not viruses or malware—just old or uncommon code causing false positives. We temporarily add them to the exclusion list so they aren't blocked, then re-enable Security to keep your PC protected. Many classic games also need legacy VC++ and DirectX runtimes, which modern Windows doesn't include by default. Installing them ensures compatibility and smooth play. Your safety matters to us—these are safe, standard steps for retro games.

Run the unmodded game first
The official Satisfactory Modding Documentation instructs players to launch Satisfactory at least once and reach the title screen before installing mods. This creates the game installation and configuration data that SMM needs to find.
Back up important saves
Keep a copy of valuable worlds before changing a mod set. A factory that depends on a removed or incompatible mod may not load correctly without that mod. Use a separate test save when trying a large overhaul or a build-mod combination.
How to install Satisfactory mods with SMM on PC
- Start Satisfactory once. Launch it through Steam or Epic and wait for the title screen. Exit the game before installing SMM.
- Download Satisfactory Mod Manager. Use ficsit.app or smm.ficsit.app. The SMM site selects the appropriate build from the latest GitHub release for your browser. On Windows, you can also open PowerShell or Command Prompt and run
winget install SatisfactoryModding.SatisfactoryModManager. - Keep the download if your browser warns you. A browser may label the installer as “not commonly downloaded.” Choose Keep only when you intentionally downloaded it from the official mod site.
- Make the Linux AppImage executable. In your file manager, open the file’s properties and enable execution, or run
chmod +x SatisfactoryModManager*.AppImagein the directory containing the download. Then open the AppImage. - Open SMM and let it detect the game. Guides report automatic detection for both Steam and Epic installations. If you have more than one installation, select the copy you intend to mod before downloading anything.
- Install a mod. Find a mod in SMM and click the download arrow beside it. SMM retrieves the mod, required dependencies, and SML, then puts them in the folders used by Satisfactory.
- Confirm the mod’s status and compatibility. Read the mod page and SMM’s status information before starting a world. Check the supported game and SML versions, multiplayer notes, and any required companion mods.
You do not need to extract a zip archive or drag files into the game directory when using SMM. Manual installation instructions exist for SML and mods, but SMM is the route most current guides recommend for ordinary PC players.

The best Satisfactory mods for 2026
“Best” depends on what you want to change. Quality-of-life mods preserve the basic game while removing repetitive work; overhauls change the technology path and difficulty; structural and graphical mods mainly affect presentation and construction. The table gives a quick decision guide before the individual descriptions.
| Mod | Primary use | What it changes | Multiplayer consideration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Smart! | Factory automation | Automates repetitive placement and connections; a guide demonstrates laying out 10 constructors while power, belts, and pipes connect automatically. | A server guide marks client installation as required for all players. |
| Satisfactory Plus | Full overhaul | Reworks materials and recipes for a substantially harder, longer progression. | Use only when everyone is prepared to play the overhauled ruleset. |
| Refined Power | Energy systems | Adds more than 30 energy-generating buildings. | Check the mod page and server requirements before a shared save. |
| Taj’s Graphical Overhaul | Visuals and performance | Uses Unreal Engine 5-based lighting and performance improvements. | Graphics changes may still need compatibility checking after game updates. |
| Difficulty Tuner | Custom challenge | Presets alter extraction speed, build costs, and inventory size. | All players should use matching settings for a consistent session. |
| Structural Solutions | Factory styling | Adds more than 300 building pieces for architectural and cosmetic construction. | Verify whether clients need the package when joining a modded server. |
| Micro Manage | Precision building | Lets you freely move, rotate, scale, and clone any building. | Check the mod’s multiplayer note; building-state changes can affect shared saves. |
| Area Actions | Large-scale editing | Selects a region so you can copy, move, or delete everything inside it. | Use a backup before bulk operations, especially in a shared world. |
| Infinite Nudge | Fine placement | Maps a constructor hologram to the grid and moves it with keyboard inputs. | Confirm client requirements before joining another player’s session. |
Smart!: the strongest quality-of-life choice
Smart! targets the repetitive part of factory construction rather than changing the production tree. Its headline use is rapid, connected placement: one 2026 guide describes placing 10 constructors in a line while power, belts, and pipes connect automatically. It is a good first mod if you want larger factories without turning Satisfactory into a different game.
Because a server guide labels Smart! “requires client install: Yes (all players),” every participant should install the same compatible version before joining a shared world.

- Sculpt mountains, gouge valleys, and seed forests
- Deploy police cruisers and fire trucks to the scene

Satisfactory Plus: a new game inside the game
Satisfactory Plus is for players who have exhausted the standard progression and want a longer, more demanding campaign. It overhauls materials and recipes instead of merely adding another machine. Expect a substantially different production plan, more intermediate steps, and a learning curve that makes it a poor choice for a lightly modded existing save.
Refined Power: expand the energy toolbox
Refined Power adds more than 30 energy-generating buildings. It suits builders who enjoy designing power infrastructure and want alternatives to the base game’s generation options. Read its compatibility notes before installing it alongside an overhaul that also changes energy or resource progression.
Taj’s Graphical Overhaul: lighting and performance
Taj’s Graphical Overhaul focuses on presentation, with Unreal Engine 5-based lighting and performance upgrades described in a 2026 listing. It is the most natural pick when your goal is a different visual atmosphere rather than new recipes. Performance gains can vary by hardware and game version, so treat the mod’s supported-version information as authoritative for your installation.
Difficulty Tuner: adjust the pressure
Difficulty Tuner provides presets that change extraction speed, construction costs, and inventory size. It can make a second playthrough more demanding without committing to a complete overhaul. Decide on a preset before starting a serious save; changing the economic rules mid-build can invalidate production plans.
Structural Solutions: more ways to build
Structural Solutions adds more than 300 building pieces aimed at factory styling. Choose it when the bottleneck is architectural variety—walls, platforms, supports, and decorative shapes—rather than production throughput. As with any building expansion, confirm that the pieces remain supported after a major game update before loading a world that uses them heavily.

- 285G LIGHTWEIGHT BUILD — Experience superior audio and game for hours without being weighed down by the headset
- TRIFORCE 40MM DRIVERS — Cutting-edge proprietary design divides the driver into 3 parts for the individual tuning of highs, mids, and lows —producing brighter, clearer audio with richer highs and more powerful lows
- HYPERCLEAR CARDIOID MIC — An improved pickup pattern ensures more voice and less noise with the sweet spot easily placed at the mouth because of the mic’s bendable design
- HYBRID FABRIC AND MEMORY FOAM EAR CUSHIONS — Wrapped in a combination of breathable fabric and plush leatherette to provide a snug fit to ensure constant comfort for prolonged gaming
- 7.1 SURROUND SOUND — Provides accurate positional audio that lets you pinpoint intuitively where every sound is coming from. *Only available on Windows 10 64-bit
- Micro Manage provides free movement, rotation, scaling, and cloning for buildings. It is useful for correcting awkward placements or making precision builds that the normal grid cannot achieve.
- Area Actions works on a selected region, allowing you to copy, move, or delete everything within it. It is suited to relocating a complete production block, but a mistaken selection can remove a large amount of work.
- Infinite Nudge maps a constructor hologram to the grid and slides it with keyboard inputs. It is the focused option for lining up machines and belts when normal snapping is almost, but not quite, right.
Compatibility and update strategy
Do not treat a mod that worked yesterday as automatically ready after a Satisfactory update. SML and larger mods can lag behind a major release by days or weeks. The 2026 lists used for these recommendations were described as current for update 1.2, but their live mod pages were not independently verified here.
- Before updating Satisfactory, open each installed mod’s page and check its supported game and SML version.
- Read the changelog or compatibility notice for the exact update you are installing.
- Wait if a core dependency or a large overhaul is marked incompatible; disabling one mod can leave a save dependent on it.
- Back up saves before changing the set, then test the updated profile with a copy of your world.
- For multiplayer, have every required client install on the same compatible release before anyone joins.
There are no published, authoritative adoption or download statistics for these mods, so rankings here are practical category recommendations rather than a popularity chart.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Using mods on a dedicated Satisfactory server
SMM can connect to a dedicated server through its Manage Servers area. A hosting guide describes connecting over SFTP with the server’s credentials, which lets you transfer and manage the server-side mod files without manually browsing the host’s storage.
For a hosted Satisfactory server, Godlike.Host offers game hosting through a Pterodactyl-based panel with SFTP/FTP access and a built-in mod installer and updater.
Server installation workflow
- Open SMM and select Manage Servers in the left sidebar.
- Add the server using the SFTP address, username, password or key, and any port supplied by your host.
- Connect and install the server-compatible mod set through SMM’s server controls, following each mod’s instructions for dependencies and SML.
- Restart the server if the host requires a restart before loading new files.
- Give players the exact mod list and versions, and identify which entries require a client install.
Server-side presence does not automatically mean a player can connect without the mod. Smart!, for example, is explicitly marked by one server guide as requiring installation by all players. Check every mod’s client/server note instead of assuming one rule applies to the entire collection.
Dedicated-server precautions
- Keep a server backup before adding an overhaul or bulk-building tool.
- Do not update the server’s game, SML, and mods independently without checking compatibility.
- Test a modded copy first when the world contains irreplaceable construction.
- When a player reports a missing dependency or version mismatch, compare the client’s list with the server’s list rather than reinstalling random files.
Do Satisfactory mods work on console?
Console mod support is unresolved. The available third-party guidance says Coffee Stain has not discussed a console mod pathway, and the installation process documented here is specifically for PC through SMM. Until the developer or official modding documentation provides console instructions, assume these mods require the PC version.

Troubleshooting common installation problems
SMM cannot find Satisfactory
Close SMM, launch the game through Steam or Epic until the title screen appears, exit, and reopen SMM. The first-run step creates the installation data SMM uses. If you have both Steam and Epic copies, verify that the detected path is the one you intend to modify.
Recommended Free Tools
The installer will not run on Linux
Confirm that the AppImage has execute permission. Use your file manager’s permissions control or run chmod +x SatisfactoryModManager*.AppImage, then launch it again.
The browser blocks the SMM download
If the warning says the file is not commonly downloaded, use Keep only after confirming that the download came from ficsit.app or smm.ficsit.app. Do not bypass a warning for an unrelated mirror.
A mod is missing, disabled, or causes a startup failure
Open the mod’s page and verify the supported Satisfactory and SML versions. A major update may have temporarily broken the mod. Remove or disable the incompatible entry only after backing up the save, and do not open a dependent world until you know whether the mod is required for that save.
Players cannot join a modded session
Compare the installed lists and versions on the server and every client. Install any mod marked as requiring client installation on all players’ machines, including Smart! where the cited server guide explicitly requires it. A mismatch in one dependency can prevent a connection even when the headline mod appears identical.
Choosing a safe first mod set
For a conservative first experiment, install one quality-of-life mod such as Smart! or Infinite Nudge, test it in a copied save, and add nothing else until the session is stable. For a visual build project, Structural Solutions plus a placement tool addresses construction without changing recipes. For a new campaign, choose either Satisfactory Plus or Difficulty Tuner—not both at once—so you can identify which rules are responsible for a problem. Reserve Refined Power and large combinations for a fresh or well-backed-up world, and verify every component after each game update.
