Best Restream Settings for a 1080p Pre-Recorded YouTube Stream

Use 1920×1080 H.264 video, AAC audio and a two-second keyframe interval for a Restream pre-recorded YouTube event. Match YouTube’s live-ingest bitrate to 30 or 60 fps.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a 1080p pre-recorded YouTube stream scheduled through Restream, use a 1920×1080 file with H.264 video, AAC audio and a two-second keyframe interval. Keep the video at its native 30 or 60 fps; if you are re-encoding, use CBR where practical. As a YouTube destination reference, its recommended H.264 live-ingest bitrate is 5 Mbps at 1080p30 or 6 Mbps at 1080p60. Those bitrate figures are for YouTube live ingestion, not a guaranteed Restream upload or transcoding setting.

Recommended settings at a glance

Setting Recommended value Notes
Resolution 1920×1080 Restream recommends Full HD for pre-recorded video.
Frame rate 30 or 60 fps Preserve the source’s native frame rate where practical, then use the matching YouTube bitrate recommendation.
Video codec H.264 Required for Restream pre-recorded uploads.
Rate control CBR when re-encoding Restream lists CBR as optional guidance; pre-recorded files are often VBR and may need re-encoding.
Keyframe interval 2 seconds Required by Restream’s pre-recorded video requirements and recommended by YouTube for live ingest.
Audio codec AAC Required for Restream pre-recorded uploads.
YouTube H.264 live-ingest bitrate reference 5 Mbps at 1080p30; 6 Mbps at 1080p60 Choose according to the actual frame rate. These are YouTube’s live-ingest recommendations, not a Restream file-upload bitrate guarantee.
Start and end buffer 15–20 seconds at each end Restream recommends this lead-in and tail to allow destination processing and reduce the risk of cutting off content.

Restream accepts MP4, MOV, M4V and MKV containers. It recommends 1080p; 4K may work only on destinations that support it. Its published pre-recorded requirements describe bitrate as destination-dependent rather than setting one universal file bitrate. See Restream’s pre-recorded video requirements.

Choose the bitrate for YouTube live ingest

For a YouTube-only event using H.264, the relevant YouTube live encoder recommendations are 5 Mbps for 1080p30 and 6 Mbps for 1080p60. YouTube lists a 4 Mbps minimum for both frame rates. At 1080p60, its recommended value is also 6 Mbps. Match the setting to the file’s actual frame rate rather than selecting a higher row by default.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

YouTube’s guidance for AV1 or H.265/HEVC gives different recommended 1080p values: 10 Mbps at 30 fps and 12 Mbps at 60 fps, with a listed 4 Mbps minimum for both. However, Restream’s documented source requirements for pre-recorded uploads specify H.264 video and AAC audio, so H.264 is the appropriate choice for this workflow. Refer to YouTube’s live encoder settings and bitrate table.

Do not use the VOD upload bitrate table for a scheduled live event

YouTube’s finished-video upload guidance lists 8 Mbps for 1080p SDR at standard frame rates (24, 25 or 30 fps) and 12 Mbps at high frame rates (48, 50 or 60 fps). Those values apply to uploading a finished video as a VOD. A Restream pre-recorded event sends the selected file out as a live stream, so use Restream’s file requirements and YouTube’s live-ingest recommendations instead. See YouTube’s recommended upload encoding settings.

Prepare the video file

  1. Check the container and tracks. Use MP4, MOV, M4V or MKV with H.264 video and AAC audio. Restream says its mandatory parameters are required for upload.
  2. Set the picture size and frame rate. Use 1920×1080 and retain the source’s native 30 or 60 fps where possible. Avoid changing frame rate without a reason; choose the live-ingest bitrate reference that matches the final file.
  3. Set encoding controls if re-encoding. Choose CBR where available and a two-second keyframe interval. For a YouTube H.264 destination, use 5 Mbps for 1080p30 or 6 Mbps for 1080p60 as the destination reference, not as a promise about Restream’s handling of the uploaded file.
  4. Add a buffer. Include 15–20 seconds of lead-in before the intended content and 15–20 seconds after it. Restream says the padding gives destination services processing time and can help prevent critical content from being cut off.
  5. Check audio and motion. Confirm the AAC track is present, audible and synchronized. YouTube advises testing with audio and movement similar to what will appear in the stream.

Schedule the pre-recorded event in Restream

  1. In Restream, select New Stream, then choose Pre-recorded livestream.
  2. Select an existing upload or upload the prepared file.
  3. Enter the event details and schedule the start time.
  4. Enable the intended YouTube channel. Verify the selected channel, event title, date, time and source video before creating the event.
  5. Create the event. Restream says scheduled pre-recorded events start automatically at their scheduled time. Some other destinations may require a manual start at the destination.

Restream’s documented workflow and scheduling details are in its guide to scheduling a pre-recorded event. Check your account before relying on a particular duration, resolution or storage allowance: Restream’s documented limits depend on add-on tier and can change. At the time of its cited help page, Restream listed Premier at 1080p for up to two hours, Marathon at 1080p for up to four hours, and Media at 4K for up to twelve hours. These are plan-specific published limits, not universal allowances. Restream also documents an option to loop a scheduled pre-recorded event up to 10 times; confirm the current account interface and limits before planning around it.

Preflight and stream checks

  • Confirm the file is accepted and uses H.264 video plus AAC audio.
  • Confirm 1920×1080 resolution, native 30 or 60 fps, a two-second keyframe interval and the appropriate YouTube H.264 live-ingest bitrate reference if the file was re-encoded.
  • Check that the lead-in and tail buffers are present.
  • Verify YouTube is the enabled destination and that the correct channel and event details are selected.
  • Test playback, including audible sound and visible movement, before the scheduled start. YouTube advises creators to monitor stream health and review messages during an event; its live stream settings guidance covers managing the event.

The cited guidance does not give a numeric upload-speed target for Restream’s pre-recorded file-upload workflow. Do not treat an encoder-based live-stream speed target as a requirement for uploading a prerecorded file.

Troubleshooting common problems

Restream rejects the file

Check that the container is MP4, MOV, M4V or MKV and that the video and audio codecs are H.264 and AAC. Re-encode the file if its tracks use unsupported codecs or if the source is variable bitrate and causes a compatibility problem.

The YouTube event is missing or scheduled incorrectly

Return to the event details and check the selected YouTube channel, event date and time, and source video. A scheduled Restream event is not a substitute for verifying that the intended destination is enabled.

The opening or ending content is cut off

Add a 15–20-second lead-in and tail to the file. Restream recommends this buffer because destinations may need time to process the incoming event.

The stream looks wrong or has no sound

Test the file before scheduling: check that the AAC audio track plays, remains synchronized and that the video shows the expected movement. For an encoder-based YouTube stream, monitor stream health and messages; YouTube’s testing advice is to include audio and movement similar to the actual stream.
