For a prerecorded YouTube channel that needs to run continuously, StreamNeo is the closest fit among the options covered here: it loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so your computer does not need to stay on. OBS Studio is a free, hands-on local option if you can keep a computer and connection running. Restream’s own looping feature is limited to 10 plays and a maximum 40-hour stream; StreamYard documents scheduled prerecorded broadcasts, not an endless loop.
Which Restream alternative fits a looping YouTube channel?
| Option | What it does | Best suited to | Important limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Runs uploaded videos or playlists as a continuous YouTube stream from the cloud. Your computer can be off. See StreamNeo. | A YouTube channel that needs prerecorded video to keep playing without a local computer. | YouTube only; it plays uploaded video, not a live camera feed. |
| OBS Studio | A local Media Source can replay a file when playback completes. OBS Media Sources. | Creators comfortable running their own encoder and keeping their computer available. | It is not a cloud scheduler or managed 24/7 service. |
| StreamYard | Can automatically air a scheduled prerecorded broadcast while the user is offline. StreamYard scheduling help. | Scheduled events where a continuous loop is not required. | Documentation does not establish endless looping. The pricing page lists prerecorded durations of 2 hours on Core and 4 hours on Advanced; verify current plan details. StreamYard pricing. |
| Restream | Schedules prerecorded videos and offers a looping option. Restream loop help. | Creators already using Restream for prerecorded events and needing a bounded loop. | Paid looping supports up to 10 plays and a maximum 40-hour stream; playlists cannot be looped. |
| YouTube Live Streaming API | Developers can schedule broadcasts and associate a broadcast with a stream. Google API overview. | Developers building and maintaining their own automation. | An API reference is not a ready-to-use hosted streaming service. |
Choose by required runtime, whether the stream must recover automatically after a drop, whether the computer can remain on, destination needs, archive expectations, plan limits, and budget. No hands-on reliability or output-quality comparison is established for these options.

Why Restream may not fit a 24/7 loop
Restream’s Help Center describes looping as a paid feature with a maximum of 10 repetitions and a maximum looped-stream duration of 40 hours. Its documentation also says playlists do not support looping. These are bounded prerecorded broadcasts, not an unlimited continuous channel. Restream’s loop instructions.

When OBS Studio is the better alternative
OBS is a sensible choice if you want direct control, can leave an encoding computer running, and are comfortable managing the stream yourself. Its Media Source has a Loop property that restarts a file after playback completes. OBS Media Sources.
- Add the recording: in OBS, add a Media Source to the scene and select the prerecorded video file.
- Enable repeat playback: open the Media Source properties and enable Loop. OBS describes this setting as specifying whether the file should restart once playback has completed.
- Connect YouTube: in YouTube Studio, create or select the live stream and copy its stream key. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and enter the stream key. Keep the key private.
- Start and supervise: start streaming in OBS and confirm the preview and status in YouTube Studio. Keep the computer, OBS, video file, and network connection available for the entire broadcast; this local setup does not provide a managed cloud scheduler or monitoring.
For a channel built from multiple recordings, arrange the files as a playlist in your streaming workflow and verify the transition between items before leaving it unattended. OBS’s cited Media Source documentation establishes file looping; it does not establish a hosted playlist scheduler or managed 24/7 uptime.

When StreamYard makes more sense
StreamYard documents scheduled prerecorded broadcasts that air at the selected time even if the creator is offline. That is useful for a planned event, premiere-style broadcast, or a series of scheduled broadcasts—not evidence of a single stream that loops forever. Its Help Center states that prerecorded streams can be scheduled up to 365 days in advance; confirm the current destination and plan restrictions before building a schedule around that horizon. What to check before choosing
- Continuous runtime: distinguish a scheduled event or bounded loop from a channel that must stay live day and night.
- Computer dependency: OBS needs a running local encoder; a cloud service avoids relying on a home computer remaining on.
- Recovery: determine whether you must manually restart after a dropped connection or service interruption.
- Video rights: confirm that you have permission to use every recording, song, image, and other third-party element in a public live broadcast.
- Archive needs: decide whether YouTube’s live replay must be saved, and check the current archive limits and settings rather than assuming a long stream will be archived.
- Destination and limits: verify supported destinations, runtime, storage, schedule horizon, and plan terms on the relevant service’s current pages.
Copyright and YouTube live-stream rules
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects a match, it may show a placeholder, warn the operator, interrupt the stream, or terminate it. Even if you have a license, the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist for the stream to proceed without interruption. YouTube: copyrighted content in live streams.
Before looping a recording, check the rights for the entire program—not just the video file itself. A recording can contain music, performances, clips, artwork, or other material covered by separate rights. A permission to upload or publish a video does not automatically establish permission to rebroadcast it live; resolve any required permissions and Content ID allowlisting with the rights holder.
