The best-supported replacement remote for the Google TV Streamer (4K) is Google’s Google TV Streamer Voice Remote. Google names the Streamer as compatible and provides a dedicated pairing procedure. Before buying, check whether the original remote is simply misplaced or needs troubleshooting; either situation may not require a replacement.
Which replacement remote should you buy?
Choose the Google TV Streamer Voice Remote if you want the replacement Google explicitly identifies for the Streamer. Google also lists it as compatible with Chromecast with Google TV (4K) and Chromecast with Google TV (HD), so it can be a practical option in a home with those devices too. The remote has a D-pad, Select, Home, Back, volume and power controls, YouTube and Netflix buttons, Play/Pause, an Assistant microphone, and a customizable button. Google lists Bluetooth and IR connectivity, and says two AAA batteries are included. Its product page lists dimensions of 5.4 × 1.5 × 0.6 inches and weight of 1.4 oz, or 2.2 oz with two AAA batteries; Google also says it is made with at least 64% recycled plastic. Check whether you need a replacement
If the remote may be lost
If it is still paired, use Find My Remote before ordering another one. Google says you can start the feature with the button on the back of the Streamer, by voice assistant, in the Google Home app, or through Google TV settings. The remote rings for 30 seconds. The feature requires the remote to be paired; using the Streamer’s physical button to start it works with the Google TV Remote. Google’s Find My Remote instructions describe the available methods.

If the remote seems unresponsive
Google’s troubleshooting guidance recommends removing and reinserting the batteries, checking the remote’s LED, and trying two fresh 1.5-volt AAA batteries. If navigation works but the TV’s power or volume does not, check the configured TV controls and settings. Google notes that the remote may not be sending an IR signal to the television’s sensor. Follow Google’s remote troubleshooting steps for the relevant TV configuration.
How to pair a replacement Google TV Streamer remote
- Turn on the Google TV Streamer.
- Press and hold the button on the back of the Streamer for 5–10 seconds to start pairing mode.
- Insert two AAA batteries in the new Voice Remote. Google says it pairs automatically in most cases.
- If pairing does not happen, follow the on-screen directions. You can also hold Back and Home on the remote for three seconds.
Google’s replacement remote setup instructions cover this process for a previously set-up streaming device. Google Support states: “Replacement Voice Remotes are available for purchase on the Google Store.”

What to check before considering a third-party remote
A Bluetooth or universal remote is not automatically a full substitute. Google’s documented compatibility makes its own Voice Remote the clearest choice; the available product information does not establish a third-party model as an equivalent recommendation. Check the exact model’s documentation before buying.

- Device compatibility: Does the manufacturer explicitly name Google TV Streamer (4K)?
- Navigation and voice: Are the navigation controls you need and voice input documented?
- TV controls: Does it support power and volume for your television, and is the control method—such as IR—specified?
- Setup: Can you pair it without navigating device menus using the missing remote?
- Special features: Does it support features such as Find My Remote or the customizable button? Google notes that some features work only with Google TV Streamer and its remote.
