For a MacBook with MagSafe 3, the replacement cable to look for is a USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable. Apple lists its own 2 m cable as a replacement. The MagSafe end plugs into the Mac; the USB-C end plugs into a separate USB-C power adapter. Check your exact Mac model and adapter before buying: older MagSafe and MagSafe 2 cables are not compatible.

Apple’s USB-C to MagSafe 3 Cable (2 m) is the official replacement option listed for Macs that use MagSafe 3. It is a cable, not a complete charger: you need a suitable USB-C power adapter as well.

Do not rely on “MacBook Air” or “MacBook Pro” alone: compatibility depends on the specific model. Apple’s compatibility guidance covers MacBook Pro models introduced in 2021 or later, except the 13-inch M2 model introduced in 2022, and MacBook Air models introduced in 2022 or later. Confirm your exact model against Apple’s MagSafe guidance before ordering.

MagSafe generations are not interchangeable. Apple says original MagSafe and MagSafe 2 power adapters are not compatible with MagSafe 3. For MagSafe charging, the cable must have a MagSafe 3 connector at the Mac end and USB-C at the adapter end.
Choose the power adapter separately
Match the USB-C power adapter to your Mac. Apple recommends the adapter and cable specified for the computer, and its model guidance lists different adapter wattages for different Macs. Do not assume every USB-C adapter will provide the same charging performance. Check the recommendation for your exact model in Apple’s support information.

USB-C charging is an alternative, not a MagSafe cable
Some Macs that support MagSafe 3 can also charge through USB-C. This can be useful if the MagSafe cable is unavailable, provided you have a suitable USB-C charging cable and power source. It is a separate charging route, not a replacement MagSafe cable.

Apple says a MagSafe 3 Mac charges through only one port at a time, selecting the connected source that provides the most power. Plugging in both MagSafe and USB-C does not make the Mac charge faster. See Apple’s charging guidance for supported models and details.

When fast charging is a factor
Apple says supported MacBook Air models introduced in 2022 or later and 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models introduced in 2021 or later can reach 50 percent charge in around 30 minutes with an appropriate combination of power source and cable. Treat this as conditional guidance, not a guarantee for every Mac, adapter, or cable. Check Apple’s fast-charge requirements for your model.

If a MagSafe 3 cable appears not to work, Apple recommends checking the outlet, confirming the adapter wattage, inspecting the port and connectors for debris, disconnecting and reconnecting the cable and adapter, and restarting the Mac. These checks can help rule out common connection or power issues; they do not establish what is wrong with a particular device.

If the MagSafe indicator repeatedly flashes amber, Apple suggests trying another MagSafe 3 cable or charging through USB-C. If the problem persists, seek service or replace the affected component. Follow Apple’s troubleshooting guidance.
