For a refillable photo printer, start with the largest print you actually need: the Epson EcoTank Photo ET-8500 tops out at 8.5 × 11 inches, while the ET-8550 supports prints up to 13 × 19 inches. The Canon PIXMA G620/G650 is a photo-focused, standard-size alternative; the Epson ET-18100 and Canon imagePROGRAF TC-21M are broader-format options whose exact specifications should be checked for your region before buying. This is a use-case shortlist, not a controlled head-to-head ranking.

| Epson EcoTank Photo ET-8500 | Letter-size photos plus scanning and everyday all-in-one use | Six-color Claria ET Premium ink system; maximum media size is 8.5 × 11 inches. | Not the choice for prints wider than letter-size. RTINGS |
| Epson EcoTank Photo ET-8550 | Wide-format photos up to 13 × 19 inches | Six-color photo ink system, flatbed scanner, and wide media support. | Independent testing finds vivid, detailed prints but notes possible oversaturation. RTINGS |
| Epson EcoTank ET-18100 | A3+ wide-format photo printing | Listed by TechRadar as a wide-format refillable-tank photo printer. | Confirm ink configuration, supported media, features, consumables, and availability in your market; detailed manufacturer specifications are not established here. TechRadar |
| Canon imagePROGRAF TC-21M | Large-format work and roll media | TechRadar describes a refillable-tank printer supporting 24-inch rolls. | It is a broader large-format device, not a verified substitute for a dedicated photo printer; confirm specs and intended-media suitability. TechRadar |
Choose by print size first
Letter-size output: Epson ET-8500
The ET-8500 is the sensible Epson pick when 8.5 × 11-inch output is sufficient. RTINGS describes it as essentially the same printer as the ET-8550, but with the smaller maximum media size. Both include a flatbed scanner. RTINGS lists maximum scan areas of 8.5 × 11.7 inches for the ET-8500 and 8.5 × 14 inches for the ET-8550, so the larger model also has a longer scan bed.

13 × 19-inch output: Epson ET-8550
Choose the ET-8550 if you need prints up to 13 × 19 inches. Epson lists borderless output at this size, and RTINGS reports high yield, useful scanning, and detailed, colorful results. The added width is meaningful for posters, portfolio pieces, and larger photo prints, but it is only valuable if your paper sizes and workspace make use of it.
A3+ or roll media: verify the wide-format candidates
The ET-18100 is identified as an A3+ wide-format photo option, while the TC-21M is listed for 24-inch roll media. Those descriptions make them worth investigating for larger formats, but the available evidence does not establish comparative photo quality, ink setup, speed, or a full feature set. Confirm the exact regional model and manufacturer specifications before treating either as a match for a photo workflow.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Photo quality: vivid output is not the same as accurate color
The ET-8500 and ET-8550 use Epson’s six-color Claria ET Premium ink system, including Gray and Photo Black alongside the other colors. Epson attributes photo and black-and-white rendering to this ink set. The manufacturer says the printers can make a borderless 4 × 6-inch print in as fast as 15 seconds; that is a conditional manufacturer speed claim, not a guarantee for every paper, setting, or image.
RTINGS found the ET-8550 prints detailed, saturated images with a broad color gamut, but also warned that it can oversaturate and is less color-accurate than some alternatives. If matching a calibrated display or reproducing artwork matters, vividness alone is not a reliable measure. Look for independent color-accuracy testing, and check whether your editing, printer, and paper workflow supports the color management you need. Epson says its Print Layout software is supported, but that alone does not establish compatibility with your particular setup.

For a photo-only professional prioritizing color accuracy, RTINGS points to the Canon PIXMA PRO-200 as context. It is not a refillable-tank model, so it falls outside this shortlist; the trade-off illustrates why a low-cost ink system and color-critical output should be evaluated separately.

When the Canon PIXMA G620 or G650 makes sense
TechRadar identifies the PIXMA G620/G650 as a photo-oriented MegaTank choice, with six dye-based inks including red and gray. Its review praises photo output on coated paper and bottled-refill economics, but describes fewer everyday conveniences than many all-in-ones: manual duplexing, no touchscreen, no memory-card slot, no Ethernet, and a 100-sheet rear tray. It also reports slow monochrome printing. The G620/G650 naming is described as regional equivalence by the reviewer; check the model sold in your market and confirm the current specification sheet before purchase.

This Canon is a better fit when photo printing is the priority and the reported omissions do not matter. If you frequently copy or scan, print two-sided documents, connect over wired Ethernet, or want a front paper cassette, weigh those workflow needs rather than choosing on ink capacity alone.
What refillable ink changes—and what it does not
Tank printers replace recurring cartridge purchases with bottled refills, which can make frequent printing less expensive. But a cost-per-photo figure is only meaningful when the paper, print size, image coverage, print volume, and comparison method are clear.

In its 2021 launch announcement for the ET-8500 and ET-8550, Epson estimated about 4 cents per 4 × 6-inch photo versus 40 cents with cartridges. Those are Epson’s published estimates from that announcement, not a current universal cost comparison or a guarantee for your usage. Epson also estimates up to 6,700 black pages and 6,200 color pages for ET-8550 replacement bottles; those are document-yield figures, not a photo-count promise.
Estimate your own recurring cost using the photo paper you intend to use, expected print volume, and replacement ink prices for the exact model and region. Tank printers still require photo paper, and infrequent users may not benefit as much from a lower per-print ink cost as someone printing regularly.

Check paper, workflow, and ownership details before you buy
- Media size: Match the printer’s maximum width to your largest intended print, not just your usual snapshot size. Verify supported paper types and borderless sizes in the regional specification sheet.
- Ink and color: Compare the ink set and independent output assessments. If color matching is critical, prioritize measured accuracy and a workable color-managed process over saturation.
- Documents and scanning: Check duplex behavior, paper capacity, connectivity, and scan-bed dimensions. A photo-first design may lack conveniences that matter for routine office use.
- Running costs: Compare ink and compatible paper using your own volume assumptions. Treat manufacturer yield and cost estimates as estimates, not guaranteed outcomes.
- Availability and support: Confirm the exact model name, bottle compatibility, consumables, warranty, and stock for your country. Epson’s EcoTank Photo page describes a one-year limited warranty with full-unit replacement and lifetime technical support; terms can vary by region and should be checked locally.
Epson says its EcoTank Photo printers use EcoFit bottle technology “designed for easy, mess-free refills with no guesswork.” That is the manufacturer’s description of its refill system, not an independent assessment of every user’s refill experience. Epson also cites Wilhelm Imaging Research tests for more than 75 years of color-print display life and more than 100 years for black-and-white prints on specified media under stated display conditions; Epson notes actual stability varies and does not guarantee longevity.
Quick Recap
Which one should you choose?
- Choose the ET-8550 when 13 × 19-inch prints are essential and an all-in-one with Epson’s photo ink system fits your workflow.
- Choose the ET-8500 when letter-size output is enough and you want the same general Epson Photo approach in a smaller maximum format.
- Consider the G620/G650 when coated-paper photo output and six dye inks matter more than the listed convenience features.
- Investigate the ET-18100 or TC-21M when A3+ or roll media is central, but verify specifications and photo suitability for your specific market and use.
