Radeon Software cannot enable NVIDIA DLSS. DLSS Super Resolution, DLSS Ray Reconstruction, and DLSS Frame Generation are GeForce RTX features exposed through supported games and NVIDIA software. On a Radeon GPU, use the AMD alternatives: in-game FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), FSR Frame Generation, FSR Ray Regeneration, Radeon Super Resolution (RSR), Radeon Anti-Lag 2, and, on compatible hardware, HYPR-RX.
Start with the game’s own FSR implementation at Quality. Add frame generation only after the non-generated frame rate is stable and input response feels acceptable. Use FSR Ray Regeneration when the title exposes it. Reserve RSR for games without built-in FSR, and treat HYPR-RX as an automated starting profile that still needs per-game verification.

What Radeon can and cannot do
DLSS is NVIDIA’s machine-learning rendering stack. NVIDIA’s current support documentation describes DLSS 4 transformer upgrades for Super Resolution, Ray Reconstruction and DLAA on GeForce RTX cards, while Multi Frame Generation is specific to RTX 50-series GPUs. Radeon Adrenalin does not contain a native “DLSS Ray Reconstruction” switch, and installing a newer driver cannot add one.
AMD addresses the same broad rendering problems with a different stack. FSR Upscaling reconstructs a higher-resolution image from a lower-resolution render; FSR Frame Generation inserts intermediate frames; FSR Ray Regeneration targets noisy or undersampled ray-traced lighting; RSR provides driver-level upscaling when a game has no integrated FSR; and HYPR-RX combines compatible features into an automatic profile.

The practical translation
- DLSS Super Resolution equivalent: native, game-integrated AMD FSR Upscaling. RSR is the fallback when the game has no FSR option.
- DLSS Ray Reconstruction equivalent: AMD FSR Ray Regeneration, where the game and GPU generation support it. It is a separate AMD algorithm, not a Radeon implementation of DLSS.
- DLSS Frame Generation equivalent: FSR Frame Generation. FSR 3.1 makes frame generation separable from the upscaler, so a supported game can expose the two controls independently.
- Latency control: Radeon Anti-Lag 2 in games that support it, particularly when frame generation is enabled.
Choose the right Radeon feature first
| Goal | Use first | Starting point | Key limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Upscale a game that includes AMD FSR | Native in-game FSR Upscaling | Quality preset | Results vary by title, output resolution, ray-tracing load and motion; game-specific integration is generally preferred over RSR. |
| Generate intermediate frames | FSR Frame Generation | Enable only after stable non-generated FPS | It can make motion look smoother without reducing the latency of the underlying frame rate; use Anti-Lag 2 where supported. |
| Improve ray-traced reconstruction | FSR Ray Regeneration | Enable only when the game exposes it, then inspect motion and fine detail | It belongs to AMD’s FSR Redstone suite and is title- and generation-dependent. |
| Upscale a game with no FSR menu | Radeon Super Resolution | Lower the game’s render resolution one step below native while keeping the display output native | Requires a discrete Radeon RX 5000-series or newer GPU on Windows 10 or 11 and current Adrenalin software. |
| Apply several Radeon optimizations automatically | HYPR-RX | Use as a baseline, then inspect each game’s actual toggles | Availability starts with RX 7000-series GPUs and newer or Ryzen 7040-series APUs with RDNA 3 graphics. |
Prepare the system before changing graphics options
- Identify the GPU and operating system. RSR needs a discrete RX 5000-series or newer card and Windows 10 or 11. HYPR-RX needs an RX 7000-series-or-newer GPU or a Ryzen 7040-series APU with RDNA 3 graphics.
- Update Radeon Software. Use a current Adrenalin release so the driver exposes the features supported by your card. FSR itself is integrated by the game, so a driver update cannot add FSR controls to a title that does not implement them.
- Check the game’s Graphics or Display menu. Look for FSR Upscaling, FSR Frame Generation, Ray Regeneration or a similar AMD FidelityFX label. A game may offer one feature without the others.
- Record a baseline. Measure ordinary, non-generated frame rate in the area that stresses your system most. Frame-generation output should not be used as the baseline for deciding whether the game is fast enough.
- Keep one upscaler active. When native FSR is enabled, turn RSR off. Stacking a driver upscaler on top of an in-game upscaler adds another reconstruction pass and can soften detail or produce halos.
Best settings for native FSR Upscaling
Native FSR is the preferred path when a game includes it. AMD says game-specific FSR optimizations may produce better results than driver-level RSR because the developer controls motion vectors, exposure and other data used by the reconstruction pass.
Setup procedure
- Open the game’s Settings, then Graphics or Display.
- Set the monitor’s native output resolution and select the game’s Upscaling, Super Resolution or AMD FSR option.
- Choose Quality first. This preserves more input detail than Balanced or Performance and gives you a clean reference for judging the title’s implementation.
- Walk, pan the camera and inspect foliage, thin geometry, hair, text and specular highlights. Check a busy ray-traced scene rather than only a static wall.
- If the measured non-generated frame rate still misses your display target, move to Balanced. Use Performance only when the extra speed is worth visibly softer detail or more temporal artifacts.
- Leave RSR disabled for this game. If you later enable HYPR-RX, verify that it has not changed the game’s FSR selection or added RSR.
Presets are starting points, not universal render scales. A Quality setting that looks excellent at 1440p may reveal shimmer at 4K or insufficient detail at 1080p. Ray-tracing load, camera speed and the game’s temporal stability matter as much as the nominal preset.
Best settings for FSR Frame Generation
FSR 3.1 separates the frame-generation component from its temporal upscaler. A supported game can therefore let you keep one upscaling mode while enabling or disabling generated frames independently.

Enable it in the correct order
- Choose native FSR Upscaling and establish a stable non-generated frame rate first.
- Play the demanding section of the game for several minutes. If the base rate regularly collapses or stutters, fix those problems before adding generated frames.
- Enable FSR Frame Generation in the same graphics menu, then repeat the camera-panning and combat checks.
- Enable Radeon Anti-Lag 2 when the title supports it. AMD recommends pairing Anti-Lag 2 with frame generation to improve the relationship between input and displayed frames.
- Use a variable-refresh display if available and keep the game’s frame pacing consistent. Judge responsiveness by the controls, not by the generated frame counter alone.
Frame generation improves the apparent smoothness of motion by inserting frames between rendered frames. It does not make the game simulation, input sampling or CPU work run at the generated rate. If the original frames arrive unevenly, generated frames can make a high counter look smoother while controls still feel delayed or uneven.
When it is worth using
- Use it when the game already delivers a stable, playable base rate and you want smoother camera motion.
- Use it cautiously in competitive or latency-sensitive games, where the response of the underlying frames matters more than visual fluidity.
- Turn it off if you see double images around fast-moving characters, disocclusion trails, interface glitches or inconsistent pacing that is more distracting than the extra smoothness.
Best settings for FSR Ray Regeneration
FSR Ray Regeneration is AMD’s documented answer to the reconstruction problem addressed by DLSS Ray Reconstruction. It is part of the FSR Redstone suite, but it is not the same NVIDIA algorithm and is not available as a universal driver toggle.
How to configure it
- Confirm that the game lists Ray Regeneration or an equivalent FSR Redstone option in its ray-tracing or upscaling menu.
- Enable it with native FSR Upscaling at Quality so you can separate reconstruction changes from aggressive resolution reduction.
- Inspect reflections, indirect lighting, fine geometry and moving objects in a ray-traced scene.
- Keep the setting enabled if it reduces noise and preserves detail without objectionable trails. Disable it if your title shows shimmering, ghosting or unstable lighting; support and behavior depend on the game and GPU generation.
RX 9000-series hardware is the current target for the full FSR Redstone feature tier in AMD’s documentation. A game may still support other FSR features on older cards while omitting Ray Regeneration, so the presence of FSR Upscaling does not prove that every Redstone feature is available.

Best settings for Radeon Super Resolution
RSR is a driver-level fallback for games that do not include native FSR. It works by detecting a game running below the display’s native resolution and upscaling that image to the desktop output.

- Open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition.
- Open the Gaming tab and select the global graphics settings or the individual game profile.
- Enable Radeon Super Resolution.
- Launch the game and set its in-game render resolution below the monitor’s native resolution while leaving the display output at native resolution.
- Start one step below native, test motion and text, then lower the render resolution only if the base frame rate requires it.
- Disable any native FSR option in the game. Use either the game’s FSR or RSR, not both.
RSR is supported on Windows 10 and Windows 11 with discrete Radeon RX 5000-series and later GPUs when current Adrenalin software is installed. It cannot provide game-specific motion data that a native integration can use, which is why AMD recommends native FSR when a title offers it.
Using HYPR-RX without losing control
HYPR-RX is an automation profile rather than a new upscaling algorithm. Depending on the title and hardware, it can enable combinations of AFMF 2, RSR, Radeon Anti-Lag, Radeon Boost and supported in-game FSR or frame-generation options.

- Launch the game and inspect its Graphics menu. HYPR-RX may choose FSR when the game supports it or RSR when it does not.
- Check the actual resolution, upscaler, frame-generation and Anti-Lag states rather than assuming the profile made the preferred choices.
- Override the game profile manually if HYPR-RX enables a feature that causes artifacts or if you want a different FSR preset.

What AMD’s performance figures mean
AMD reports that FSR Redstone increased Radeon RX 9070 XT performance by an average of 3.5 times in its current product documentation, with individual game examples ranging from 2.6 times to 4.7 times. These are AMD’s own results under its stated test conditions, not independent benchmarks, and they should not be treated as a guaranteed multiplier for every game, resolution or preset.
Version details also matter. AMD GPUOpen lists FSR 3.1.5 in August 2025 and notes a fix for a possible negative RCAS output. Its FSR Frame Generation page lists FSR Frame Generation 4.0.1 in June 2026 as a patch release in SDK 2.3. A game may ship an older or customized integration, so its visible behavior can differ from the latest SDK documentation.
Recommended profiles for common situations
Modern single-player game with ray tracing
- Native FSR at Quality.
- Ray Regeneration enabled only if the title exposes it and motion remains clean.
- Frame Generation enabled after confirming a stable non-generated rate.
- Anti-Lag 2 enabled when supported.
Older game with no FSR menu
- Enable RSR in the Adrenalin game profile.
- Keep desktop and display output at native resolution.
- Lower only the game’s render resolution, then test one step at a time.
- Do not enable a second driver or game upscaler.
Game with unstable base performance
- Remain on native FSR Quality or move to Balanced.
- Reduce expensive ray-tracing settings or other heavy options before adding frame generation.
- Enable frame generation only after ordinary frame pacing is stable.
One-click setup across many games
- Use HYPR-RX if the hardware qualifies.
- Open each game’s Graphics menu afterward.
- Correct any automatically selected RSR, FSR preset or frame-generation setting that does not match the title.
Troubleshooting Radeon upscaling and frame generation
There is no DLSS option in Adrenalin
This is expected. DLSS is a GeForce RTX technology. Select the game’s AMD FSR option, use RSR for a title without FSR, or leave upscaling disabled if native resolution is already fast enough.

RSR does nothing
Verify that the card is a discrete RX 5000-series or newer model, Windows 10 or 11 is installed, Adrenalin is current, RSR is enabled for the correct game profile, and the game is rendering below native resolution. RSR will not upscale an image already rendered at the display’s native resolution.
The image is soft or has halos
Check whether RSR and native FSR are both active. Disable one. If only native FSR is active, return to Quality, inspect the game’s sharpening control if it provides one, and test a different preset in motion rather than judging a still screenshot.
Frame generation feels laggy
Check the ordinary, non-generated frame rate and frame pacing. Turn on Anti-Lag 2 when the game supports it. If controls remain delayed or uneven, disable frame generation and use the highest stable base rate available.

Compare a moving scene with the option on and off. If the title’s implementation produces unstable reflections, foliage or indirect lighting, leave Ray Regeneration disabled for that game. Its availability and artifact behavior are not universal across Radeon generations.
HYPR-RX selected the wrong feature
Open the game profile and the in-game Graphics menu. HYPR-RX can choose FSR or RSR depending on detected support, so replace the automatic choice with native FSR when the title provides it, or disable the profile for manual control.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Searching Adrenalin for a native DLSS Ray Reconstruction toggle.
- Enabling frame generation before establishing a stable base frame rate.
- Running RSR on top of in-game FSR.
- Assuming every FSR-labeled game includes FSR Frame Generation or Ray Regeneration.
- Applying AMD’s RX 9070 XT performance multiplier to unrelated GPUs, games or settings.
- Judging an upscaler from a static screenshot while ignoring ghosting, shimmer and interface behavior during motion.
- Leaving HYPR-RX’s automatic choices unchecked after enabling the profile.
Bottom line for Radeon owners
Use native FSR Quality whenever the game supports it, then move to Balanced only when measured base performance requires the extra headroom. Add FSR Frame Generation after the ordinary frame rate is stable and pair it with Anti-Lag 2 where available. Enable FSR Ray Regeneration only in titles that expose it and pass your motion-quality check. For games without FSR, use RSR on a supported RX 5000-series-or-newer Windows system. HYPR-RX can automate these choices on eligible RX 7000-series-and-newer GPUs or Ryzen 7040-series RDNA 3 APUs, but manual verification remains essential.
