Best Quick Share Alternatives for Android, iPhone, and Windows

LocalSend is the strongest documented nearby option across Android, iPhone, and Windows. Quick Share still works for compatible devices; remote transfers call for links or cloud storage.

For nearby transfers among Android, iPhone, and Windows, LocalSend is the most consistently cross-platform option supported by current documentation: it has apps for all three platforms and sends over a local network without internet or third-party servers. If you need to send to someone elsewhere, use a browser-based or cloud-link method instead. Quick Share is still worth keeping for eligible Android-to-Apple transfers and Android-to-Windows sharing, but its Apple-device features are not available on every Android phone.

Choose based on where the recipient is

There is no single replacement that is best for every transfer. The deciding question is usually whether both devices are together or on the same local network. A nearby transfer can stay on the local network; a remote recipient needs a route over the internet, usually a temporary download link or cloud storage. If you want files to remain available and update across devices, cloud sync is a better fit than a one-off transfer app.

  • Nearby Android, iPhone, and Windows: use LocalSend when both devices can install it and connect to the same local network.
  • Android to an Apple device with a supported Android model: Quick Share may send directly using the Apple device’s AirDrop visibility setting.
  • Android to an Apple device without that model support: Quick Share’s QR-code download route is an internet-hosted fallback, not a local transfer.
  • Recipient in another location: use a browser or cloud link. Blip is also reported by Windows Central to work across different networks, though the reviewed information does not establish full device compatibility or detailed limits.
  • Repeat access or backup: choose a cloud drive such as OneDrive, iCloud, or Google Drive according to the devices and accounts already in use.

How the main options differ

Option Device coverage Nearby or remote What the recipient needs Best fit and trade-off
LocalSend Windows, Android, iOS, macOS, Linux, and Fire OS, according to the project documentation Local network; no internet required LocalSend on both ends and a network that permits the devices to communicate Good choice for one-off nearby sharing across the three platforms; firewall or router isolation can interfere
Quick Share Android 6+, Chromebooks, and selected Windows PCs; Apple-device AirDrop sharing is limited to eligible Android models, per Google Help Nearby device transfer for supported routes; QR fallback uses internet and Google servers For the supported Apple route, the Apple receiver must set AirDrop visibility to “Everyone for 10 minutes” and accept; QR fallback needs internet on both devices Convenient for supported devices; compatibility and the distinction between direct and hosted routes matter
Browser or cloud-link sharing Browser and service compatibility vary; a 2026 TechRadar guide describes Dropbox across Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, Linux, and web Remote access over the internet A browser may be enough for some browser-based approaches; cloud services can provide a link. Specific installation, account, and file-size requirements vary by service and are not established here Useful when the recipient is elsewhere; the file is uploaded or stored online rather than remaining only on the local network
Cloud drive sync Depends on the provider and its apps or web access Internet-backed, continuing access Usually requires access to the relevant service; exact account and sharing requirements depend on provider and settings Better for files you want to revisit or keep synchronized than for a quick nearby handoff
Blip Full Android, iPhone, and Windows compatibility is not stated in the cited Windows Central coverage Windows Central reports it can work across different networks Installation, account, custody, and limits are not stated in the cited coverage Potential remote-transfer candidate, but confirm the exact device support and current terms before relying on it

These are different transfer models, not interchangeable labels for the same thing. LocalSend is documented as sending over a local network without third-party servers. Quick Share’s QR fallback uploads files to Google servers for download. A cloud link likewise depends on online storage or hosting, while sync is designed to keep access going beyond a single handoff.

LocalSend: a practical cross-platform choice for nearby sharing

LocalSend’s project documentation lists Windows, Android, and iOS, along with macOS, Linux, and Fire OS. It describes the app as free and open source, and says transfers of files and messages use HTTPS encryption over a local network without internet or third-party servers. These are the project’s own descriptions, not an independent security audit.

Send a file between nearby devices

  1. Install LocalSend on the sending device and the receiving device. The project lists apps for Windows, Android, and iOS, so the same workflow can cover a Windows PC, Android phone, and iPhone.
  2. Connect both devices to a local network that allows them to communicate. Internet access is not required for the transfer itself, but network configuration still matters.
  3. Open LocalSend on both devices. On the sender, choose the files or messages to send and select the receiving device shown in the app.
  4. Accept the incoming transfer on the receiving device if prompted, then check the destination on that device before closing the app.

LocalSend is a strong option when both parties are physically nearby or share a reachable local network. It is not the right default for a recipient in another town: the project’s documented model is local-network transfer, not a hosted link that follows the recipient onto a different network.

If the devices do not see each other

  • Confirm both devices are connected to a network that permits device-to-device communication. A guest Wi-Fi network or managed office network may isolate clients.
  • Check firewall rules on Windows and other devices. LocalSend’s documentation notes that firewall adjustment may be necessary.
  • Check the router for access-point isolation, sometimes enabled on guest networks. LocalSend’s project documentation identifies AP isolation as a possible cause and says it may need to be disabled.
  • If you cannot change a managed network’s settings, use a different network or choose an internet-based sharing route rather than repeatedly retrying the local transfer.

Quick Share: retain it for the routes it supports

Quick Share is not a universal Android-to-iPhone solution, but it remains useful for Android-to-Windows transfers and selected Android-to-Apple transfers. Google’s current help information lists Android 6+, Chromebooks, and selected Windows PCs for Quick Share. Apple-device sharing through AirDrop is restricted to certain Android models: Google identifies Pixel 8a or later and certain Samsung, Oppo, OnePlus, Vivo, Xiaomi, Honor, Transsion, and Motorola devices. Check Google’s current device guidance for the exact phone rather than assuming that an Android version alone qualifies.

Send to an Apple device from an eligible Android phone

  1. On the receiving Apple device, open AirDrop settings and set visibility to “Everyone for 10 minutes.” This temporary visibility setting is the one Google specifies for the cross-platform flow.
  2. On the eligible Android device, use Quick Share to select the files and the nearby Apple device.
  3. On the Apple device, accept the incoming notification to complete the transfer.

Google says Quick Share cross-platform sharing has built-in security and privacy safeguards and is independently tested. That statement is Google’s description of its feature; it should not be read as a broader independent assessment of every device, setting, or sharing route.

Use the QR-code fallback if the Android model is not eligible

Google documents a separate QR-code download route for Quick Share devices without Apple-device AirDrop support. It is useful when the sender and recipient are together but the direct compatible-device route is unavailable. The QR code opens a secure download page, and the files are uploaded to Google servers rather than sent only across the local network.

  • Both devices need internet access; mobile-data charges may apply if either uses mobile data rather than Wi-Fi.
  • Google says the files are end-to-end encrypted and available for 24 hours.
  • The documented limits are 10 GB of files to Apple devices every 24 hours, up to 1,000 files in a single share session, and up to 20 Apple-device recipients at once.

These figures describe Google’s stated product limits, not a general transfer benchmark. Treat the QR flow as a hosted, time-limited download: it can bridge incompatible devices, but it uses internet access and has different file custody from a local-network transfer.

Remote recipients: browser links and cloud storage

If the recipient is not nearby, LocalSend’s local-network approach is generally the wrong model. An upload-and-link service or cloud drive lets the other person retrieve a file over the internet. A browser peer-to-peer approach is another category described by a 2026 comparison guide, but its app-specific limits, security details, and current maintenance are not established by the available sources. Do not assume every browser-based service has the same transfer model or reliability.

Use a link for a one-time handoff

A hosted link is usually easier than arranging a shared local network when the recipient is remote. Before uploading, check the service’s current maximum file size, retention or expiration period, account requirement, and whether the recipient must sign in. Those conditions differ by product and can change. For sensitive files, consider whether the provider temporarily stores the upload and whether link access can be restricted; do not treat a link as equivalent to a transfer that stays on your local network.

A 2026 TechRadar guide describes Dropbox sharing across Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, Linux, and web, and reports that recipients can access shared files without Dropbox accounts. Those are secondary-source claims, so check the provider’s current sharing terms for the exact account and access conditions. The same guide reported a 2 GB free storage allowance, but plan terms are volatile and that figure is not a dependable current limit without confirmation from official terms.

Use sync when the file should remain available

Cloud drives are useful when you expect to open or update the same files from multiple devices, or when the goal is continuing access or backup rather than a single delivery. Windows Central identifies OneDrive and iCloud as better suited to ongoing sync or backup than one-off handoffs. That is a distinction in use case, not a claim that either service is the best choice for every combination of devices. Choose based on the operating systems you use, available storage, account preferences, and current sharing controls.

Which method should you use for each transfer?

Android to iPhone while both devices are together

First check whether the Android phone is eligible for Quick Share’s AirDrop-based route. If it is, use the temporary AirDrop visibility and acceptance steps above. If it is not, choose between LocalSend and Quick Share’s QR fallback: LocalSend keeps the transfer on the local network and requires the app on both devices; the QR route needs internet and uses a temporary Google-hosted download. Prefer the former when both devices can run the app and communicate locally; use the latter when the app is unavailable or a local network is impractical.

iPhone to Windows PC

For a one-off transfer when both devices can use the same local network, LocalSend is a documented option for iOS and Windows. For a recipient who is not nearby, use a cloud or browser link. If the intent is to keep files accessible on both devices over time, use a sync service rather than re-sending each version as a separate transfer.

Android to Windows PC

Quick Share is a natural first choice if the PC is one of the selected Windows PCs supported by Google’s application. LocalSend is another choice when both devices can join a communicating local network. If one app is unavailable or the recipient is remote, use an online link or cloud service instead.

Moving files among all three devices regularly

For ad hoc handoffs, install LocalSend on the devices you use and reserve Quick Share for compatible Android routes. If the same documents need to stay current on Android, iPhone, and Windows, a cloud drive is usually less work than repeatedly passing copies around. Keep separate copies or a backup when losing one synchronized copy would be costly; synchronization and backup are related but not identical goals.

Common mistakes and how to avoid them

  • Assuming every Android phone can use AirDrop sharing: Google’s eligibility is device-specific. Verify the model in current Google guidance; Android 6+ does not by itself establish eligibility for the Apple route.
  • Treating the QR code as a local transfer: it requires internet on both devices and uploads to Google servers. Use LocalSend when keeping the handoff on the local network is important.
  • Trying LocalSend across isolated Wi-Fi devices: guest Wi-Fi, AP isolation, and firewall rules can block discovery or communication. Switch networks or use an online method if you cannot adjust those settings.
  • Choosing sync for a one-time delivery: recipients may need service access, and the shared file may remain online. A transfer app or temporary link may be simpler for a single handoff.
  • Assuming a cloud-link limit is permanent: file-size limits, storage allowances, expiration, and account rules are provider-specific and subject to change. Verify them before a large or time-sensitive send.
  • Confusing transfer speed with a guarantee: published comparison timings rely on assumed network conditions. Actual time depends on the network and devices, so allow extra time for large files or constrained connections.

Security and file-custody trade-offs

For privacy decisions, ask where the file travels and how long it remains accessible. LocalSend’s documentation describes local-network transfers without internet or third-party servers and HTTPS encryption; Google describes its QR route as end-to-end encrypted, hosted on Google’s servers, and available for 24 hours. These statements describe the products’ documented designs, not a comparative independent security test.

For cloud links, the exact storage and access behavior depends on the chosen provider and link settings. Review who can open the link, whether sign-in is required, and whether the file persists after the recipient downloads it. A remote link is convenient precisely because it crosses network boundaries; that convenience involves online hosting that a local transfer does not.

Bottom line on Quick Share alternatives

For a nearby Android–iPhone–Windows handoff, start with LocalSend if all devices can install it and communicate on the same local network. Use Quick Share where its Windows or eligible Apple-device path fits, remembering that its QR fallback is an internet-hosted download with stated limits. For remote delivery, choose a browser or cloud link; for continuing access, choose sync. The right alternative depends on the recipient’s device, location, installation options, and whether online file hosting is acceptable.
