You can’t pair and set up an Apple Watch directly with a Huawei phone using Apple’s documented setup process. Apple requires an iPhone and directs users to complete pairing in the Apple Watch app on that iPhone. If you want to use the watch, you’ll need a compatible iPhone for setup; if you want to keep your Huawei phone, a smartwatch supported by that phone is the practical alternative.
Why a Huawei phone can’t pair an Apple Watch
Apple’s setup instructions require an iPhone: bring the watch near the iPhone, then follow the prompts in the Apple Watch app. Apple’s guidance does not list Huawei phones or Android phones as supported setup devices. That means there is no documented direct-pairing path through Huawei’s Bluetooth settings or an Apple Watch app for Android.

Does manual pairing let you use Huawei instead?
No. Apple’s “Pair Apple Watch Manually” option is an alternate step within iPhone setup, not a way to pair the watch with an Android phone. It can help when the iPhone camera cannot identify the animation displayed on the watch, but the iPhone and Apple Watch app are still required.

- If the camera-based pairing screen does not work, choose the manual pairing option shown during setup.
- Follow the iPhone’s prompts to select the watch and continue setup.
Those steps do not create a Huawei-compatible pairing. Apple’s documented process does not establish that an adapter or third-party app can make a Huawei phone a supported setup device, so don’t buy one on the assumption it will solve the incompatibility.

For example, Apple’s table lists iPhone 11 or later for Apple Watch Series 11, Apple Watch SE 3, and Apple Watch Ultra 3. Other watch models have their own requirements. Confirm the required iOS version as well as the iPhone model; do not assume that any iPhone will work just because it can install the Apple Watch app.
What if the Apple Watch has already been set up?
The documented setup requirement answers whether you can pair the watch directly with Huawei: Apple does not provide that route. It does not, by itself, establish which features an already-set-up Apple Watch can use when its paired iPhone is unavailable or replaced by a Huawei phone. Don’t assume that every feature will continue to work independently. If you have a particular feature in mind, check Apple’s instructions for that feature and the watch’s current pairing status.

Choose based on which device you want to keep
If using the Apple Watch is the priority, arrange access to an iPhone that meets the specific model requirements and complete setup through the Apple Watch app. If keeping your Huawei phone is the priority, use a smartwatch that supports it. There is no Apple-documented method to pair and set up the Apple Watch directly with the Huawei phone.
