The unnamed “new exclusive survival RPG” does not yet provide enough detail for a one-to-one comparison. If you want a PS5 game that already covers the same broad promise—survival pressure, exploration, character progression and a dangerous world—Dune: Awakening is the closest overall match. Once Human is the strongest free-to-play online choice, Sea of Remnants is the specialist pick for nautical exploration and crew management, and The Relic: First Guardian is better for players who want authored action-RPG combat rather than a crafting sandbox.
Saros belongs on the list only if what attracts you is repeated high-risk runs and permanent upgrades after death. It is a single-player action game, not a conventional survival-crafting RPG.

What this comparison covers
The title of the upcoming exclusive is not specified, and PlayStation’s current announcements point to several different interpretations of “survival RPG.” Some players mean a large world with hunger, resources, shelters and crafting. Others mean an action RPG in which every encounter tests stamina, equipment and decision-making. A third group wants persistent progress through repeated runs.

Dune: Awakening is the closest overall match
Why it matches the survival-RPG brief
Dune: Awakening is the only game in this group explicitly described by the PlayStation Store as both a single- and multiplayer open-world survival game and an adventure with RPG gameplay. That combination matters: it puts resource management, movement through a hostile world and character progression in the same core loop instead of treating survival as a light modifier on an action game.
The documented feature set includes exploration, base construction, crafting, vehicles and a cinematic story set in the Dune universe. Those systems cover the main reasons readers search for a PS5 survival RPG: a world to learn, a place to build, equipment to make and a longer-term character journey. Vehicles also give the game a different rhythm from survival games that keep the player on foot.
Solo, private and public play
The listing supports solo play, private multiplayer and public servers. That is unusually useful for players who do not know yet whether they want a personal campaign or a shared survival world. You can approach it as a solo experience, invite a controlled group into a private session or accept the social and competitive possibilities of a public server.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Difficulty is described as scalable. The listing does not define the exact settings or how they alter enemies, resources or environmental hazards, so treat “scalable” as a broad accessibility and challenge promise rather than a detailed difficulty chart.
What to expect from its progression
The available description confirms RPG gameplay, but it does not publish a complete class, skill-tree or level breakdown. Expect the RPG layer to sit alongside crafting, construction and exploration; do not assume a specific build system until the game’s own interface and documentation specify one.
Release information and ideal audience
The PlayStation Store lists a September 22, 2026 PS5 release date. For a reader deciding what to play against the broad idea of a new exclusive survival RPG, Dune: Awakening is the safest first choice because it covers the greatest number of requested systems in one package. Choose it when you want the freedom to build and craft, but still want a story-driven setting and RPG progression.
Once Human is the free-to-play online option
A co-op survival premise
The PlayStation Store describes Once Human as “a Strange Worlds Survival Game set in a bizarre, apocalyptic world.” Its premise centers on fighting with friends for survival resources, establishing a home territory and uncovering the truth behind the world’s collapse. This makes the social structure more than an optional feature: cooperation and competition over resources are part of the stated fantasy.

The PS5 listing classifies Once Human as both a shooter and a role-playing game. That combination points to a more combat-forward experience than a quiet, systems-heavy survival simulator. The available description does not enumerate weapon classes, character builds or crafting recipes, so those details should not be inferred from the genre labels alone.
Why it suits online groups
Once Human is the clearest pick for readers whose first question is, “What can I play with friends while I wait?” Its home-territory system gives a group a persistent project, while the post-apocalyptic setting supplies an obvious reason to explore, gather resources and investigate the collapse of the world.
The listing does not promise a solo-first structure equivalent to Dune: Awakening’s explicit solo, private and public options. If you intend to play alone most of the time, check the current PS5 listing and server requirements before committing to it as your main game.
Release and cost
The PlayStation Store lists an August 25, 2026 PS5 release date and identifies the game as free-to-play. That makes it the lowest-commitment way to test the online survival-RPG format in this comparison. Free-to-play does not by itself describe optional purchases, server rules or the amount of content available without spending; those terms should be checked in the current storefront information.

An ocean adventure built around a crew
PlayStation Blog announced Sea of Remnants for PS5 on June 4, 2025. Joker Studio describes its familiar tags as “ocean adventure RPG / simulation / survival building / turn-based strategy.” That list signals a deliberately hybrid design: the game is not simply a ship-combat title and not simply a base-building survival game.
You play an amnesiac sailor, recruit specialised companions, upgrade a ship, explore islands and return to Orbtopia, a home city that changes with your decisions and with shifts in faction power. The crew system gives exploration a social and strategic layer: the companions you recruit are part of the progression model, not just cosmetic passengers.
A loop of departure and return
The product lead’s description frames the journey as “an infinite voyage looping between death and rebirth—a journey where we row forward, tirelessly, only to return to where it all began.” In practical terms, that suggests a game structured around repeated expeditions, accumulated consequences and a home base that reflects what happened away from it.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.

Orbtopia’s changing state is especially important for players who want choices to affect the setting. The announcement says faction power shifts and player decisions alter the city, but it does not provide a complete list of factions, endings or mechanical bonuses. Do not assume that every choice produces a permanent branching storyline until those systems are documented in detail.

Where it differs from a conventional survival RPG
Sea of Remnants is the best fit if the fantasy of survival is tied to navigation, crew composition and a world reached by ship. It is a weaker substitute for someone who mainly wants a large land map, extensive personal base construction or a conventional character-level grind. The announcement names survival building, but it does not specify the size of the construction system, resource needs or whether the player can build freely outside the ship and city.
Release status
The PS5 announcement is dated June 4, 2025, but the available information does not state a launch date or commercial model. Treat it as a game to watch rather than a confirmed immediate replacement. Check the current PlayStation listing for availability before planning a purchase or a co-op session.
The Relic: First Guardian focuses survival pressure on combat
Stamina is a defensive resource
Project Cloud Games’ creative director, Inhyuk Park, explains that stamina is not consumed for attacking. It is reserved for defense and dodging. That single rule changes the meaning of survival: the crucial decision is not whether you can afford another swing, but whether you have enough stamina left to survive the enemy’s next attack or reposition safely.
This makes The Relic: First Guardian a strong alternative for readers who want a dark action RPG with survival tension, but do not want to manage a large crafting and construction economy. The pressure is concentrated in moment-to-moment combat rather than in maintaining a shelter or transporting raw materials.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Five weapon types and deep style-specific progression
The announcement lists five weapon types and 12 exclusive skill trees for each weapon style. It also says there are no traditional character levels. Progression therefore appears to be organized around the weapon styles and their skill trees instead of a single level number applied to every ability.
Because the announcement does not name the five weapons or explain how skill trees unlock, avoid choosing this game based on a presumed class. The reliable takeaway is structural: you get multiple weapon identities, substantial style-specific specialization and a progression system that does not use conventional character levels.

Bosses and story
The game features more than 70 bosses. Its narrative framing casts the player as “the one who restores memory and a keeper of stories,” giving the combat challenge an authored mystery rather than an entirely emergent sandbox premise.
The PS5 launch is listed for May 26, 2026. Choose The Relic when boss fights, dodging, defensive timing and a dark story matter more to you than freeform building. It is not the right substitute if your definition of survival requires farming, shelter maintenance or a player-designed base; those systems are not stated in the announcement.
Saros is a secondary comparison for roguelike survival pressure
Why it appears on a survival-RPG shortlist
Housemarque has confirmed Saros for PS5 and PS5 Pro in 2026. It is a single-player action game, not a conventional survival-crafting RPG, but it shares one important trait with survival games: every run exposes you to danger, and failure is part of the progression structure.
Death changes the next attempt
After each death, permanent resources let you upgrade weapons and suit systems while the world changes. That creates a clear distinction between temporary run progress and improvements that carry forward. A failed attempt is therefore not simply a reset; it changes what the player can bring into the next run and what the world may demand.
The announcement does not state a crafting, base-building or resource-hunger system. Pick Saros only when repeat attempts, persistent upgrades and a changing environment are the features you actually want. If you are looking for a shared survival server or a home you can construct, one of the other four games is a closer match.

Choose Dune: Awakening for the broadest match
Select Dune: Awakening if you want the most complete overlap with the usual survival-RPG checklist: open-world exploration, crafting, base construction, vehicles, RPG gameplay and several ways to play with others. Its scalable difficulty and explicit solo option also make it the easiest recommendation when a group’s experience levels differ.

Choose Sea of Remnants for ship, crew and faction systems
Choose Sea of Remnants if you want your survival story to revolve around an ocean voyage, specialised companions, ship upgrades and a home city shaped by decisions and faction power. Its announced tags make it the most distinctive game here, but its launch timing and detailed construction systems remain unspecified.
Choose The Relic: First Guardian for combat mastery
Choose The Relic: First Guardian if survival means reading attacks, preserving stamina for defense and building a weapon style through skill trees. More than 70 bosses and its memory-restoration story make it the combat-and-narrative alternative rather than the sandbox alternative.
Choose Saros for repeated runs
Choose Saros if permanent upgrades after death are more appealing than crafting or multiplayer. It is the narrowest genre match, but the clearest option for players who want the tension of starting another dangerous run with a changed world and stronger long-term equipment.
A solo-player decision guide
If you plan to play alone, start with the kind of failure you enjoy:
- Failure caused by preparation: Dune: Awakening is the best documented fit because exploration, crafting, construction and scalable difficulty all sit beside its solo mode.
- Failure caused by combat execution: The Relic: First Guardian puts stamina, dodging and defensive timing at the center of survival.
- Failure caused by an expedition that must be learned over several attempts: Saros uses death, permanent upgrades and a changing world as its main progression loop.
- Failure caused by strategic choices at sea: Sea of Remnants emphasizes crew recruitment, ship improvement, island travel and a home city altered by decisions.
- Failure that is most fun with friends: Once Human is the purpose-built online option, while Dune: Awakening also offers private and public multiplayer in addition to solo play.
This approach is more reliable than choosing by the word “survival” alone. The label covers resource management, combat endurance, expedition structure and online cooperation, and these five games distribute those elements very differently.

Bottom line
For the closest documented substitute to a new PS5 survival RPG, start with Dune: Awakening. It is the only option here that explicitly combines open-world survival, RPG gameplay, crafting, base construction, vehicles and solo, private and public play. Pick Once Human for free-to-play online cooperation, Sea of Remnants for nautical crew-led exploration, The Relic: First Guardian for stamina-driven boss combat and Saros for persistent progression across dangerous repeat runs.
