Duck.ai is the closest fit if your requirement is literal: “do not store my conversation.” DuckDuckGo says it does not store prompts or information that could reveal conversation contents, anonymizes requests sent to model providers, and prohibits provider training. Its Tinfoil-hosted models add a trusted execution environment intended to prevent the provider from seeing, retaining, sharing, or training on prompts and responses.
For a mainstream assistant, Claude’s Incognito mode is the strongest alternative, but it still has documented safety, legal, feedback, and abuse-prevention exceptions. ChatGPT Temporary Chat and Gemini temporary chats reduce history and training exposure, yet neither is an absolute no-retention promise.

What “does not store your conversations” should mean
Privacy claims become confusing because services use several different controls for different kinds of data. A chatbot can keep a copy for security while refusing to use it for model training; it can remove a chat from your visible history while retaining a safety record; or it can prevent the model provider from seeing a request while the front-end service briefly caches it.

- Prompt storage: Is the text of your prompt or the model’s answer retained at all, even temporarily?
- Training use: Can the conversation improve a future model, either directly or after de-identification?
- Human access: Can reviewers, safety teams, support staff, contractors, or legal investigators inspect the content?
- Deletion: Does deleting the visible chat delete every related record, or only the copy shown in your account?
- Mode and settings: Is the privacy behavior the default, or must you select an Incognito or Temporary mode each time?
“Not used for training” is therefore not equivalent to “never stored.” The comparison below treats those promises as separate decisions.

Duck.ai: the closest literal match
DuckDuckGo’s privacy documentation makes the strongest direct statement in this group: “We never store your prompts or any information that could reveal the contents of your conversations.” It also says requests sent to model providers are anonymized and that providers are prohibited from training on them.
Why Duck.ai ranks first for this requirement
The distinction is important. A conventional chatbot may hide a conversation from your history but keep it on company systems. Duck.ai’s stated policy addresses the prompt itself and information that could reveal its contents. That makes it the most direct answer to “Which AI chatbot does not save chats?” rather than merely “Which chatbot has a private mode?”
Tinfoil models and provider visibility
For supported models hosted through Tinfoil, DuckDuckGo says prompts and responses are processed inside a Trusted Execution Environment. The stated goal is that the model provider cannot see, retain, share, or train on the content. Choose one of those models when your priority is limiting the provider’s visibility as well as Duck.ai’s own retention.

The limits you still need to understand
- Some providers can use short-term prompt caching for up to one hour. DuckDuckGo describes this cache as memory-only and says it is never written to disk.
- Chats may still be retained when required by law or to combat malicious use.
- Uploaded files are scanned for child-sexual-abuse material. A file that is flagged can be retained for that purpose.
- The privacy statement does not turn the service into a secure vault for secrets. Avoid uploading credentials, private keys, regulated records, or information you are not authorized to disclose.
Use Duck.ai when you want the fewest ordinary storage pathways. If your use involves files, account data, or a legal hold, read the applicable policy before uploading anything.
Claude Incognito: the strongest mainstream compromise
Claude’s Incognito mode is designed for conversations you do not want used to improve Claude. Anthropic states that Incognito chats are not used to improve Claude even when Model Improvement is enabled in your privacy settings.
What Incognito changes
Incognito is a mode choice, not a claim that no system can ever retain data. It separates those chats from model-improvement use, which is the most important protection for many people who still need a full-featured assistant.

Retention windows and exceptions
Anthropic documents several situations in which information can remain available:

- If you submit feedback, the related conversation can be retained for up to five years.
- When you allow Model Improvement, Anthropic may retain data in de-identified form for up to five years.
Those periods apply to the situations Anthropic describes; they are not a statement that every Incognito chat is kept for the maximum period.
Deleting a Claude chat
Deleting a chat prevents it from being used in future training, but it does not remove data that was already incorporated into a training run. If a conversation could trigger safety review or you attach feedback, deletion of the visible chat should not be treated as an immediate erasure of every related record.
When to choose Claude
Choose Incognito when you need a capable general assistant and can accept safety, legal, and feedback retention. It is a better fit than ordinary chat for personal drafts, brainstorming, or sensitive work product that does not contain secrets requiring a no-retention guarantee.
ChatGPT Temporary Chat: a defined short-term safety copy
ChatGPT’s Temporary Chat keeps the conversation out of chat history, does not create or update memories, and is not used to improve OpenAI models while it remains temporary.
How Temporary Chat behaves
Start a Temporary Chat from ChatGPT’s chat controls before entering the prompt. Keep the conversation in that mode for the entire exchange. Saving a temporary conversation changes it into a regular chat, so do not use a save or history action if your goal is to preserve the temporary treatment.

The 30-day qualification
OpenAI may keep a copy for up to 30 days for safety purposes. That is a stated upper limit for the safety copy, not a promise that the service has no transient processing before or during the conversation.
Who may access content
OpenAI says authorized personnel or trusted service providers may access content for abuse or security investigations, support, legal matters, or model improvement when you have not opted out. Temporary Chat reduces ordinary history and training use; it does not remove the need for abuse monitoring or legal compliance.
Best use case
Temporary Chat is useful for a one-off question when you want no visible history and a clearly described safety-retention period. It is not the right choice for passwords, authentication codes, confidential client records, or trade secrets because a safety copy and authorized investigative access remain possible.
Gemini temporary chats: training exclusion with broader retention
Gemini’s temporary chats are not used to train Google’s AI models. That is a meaningful protection, but Google’s privacy notice also explains that temporary conversations can be retained as needed to respond, protect Google and users, and process feedback.
Automatic deletion settings
Gemini activity can be configured for automatic deletion. The default period is 18 months, with options for three months, 36 months, or indefinite retention. The setting controls ordinary activity records; it does not override every separate safety or review record.
Human review and three-year retention
Google says chats reviewed by human reviewers, together with related data, are not deleted when activity is deleted and may be retained for up to three years. Even with Keep Activity turned off or while using temporary chats, Google says conversations may be used with human reviewers for protection and abuse prevention.

When Gemini is appropriate
Gemini fits users who want to block training use and choose an activity-deletion period, while accepting operational retention and possible review. If your deciding criterion is that no human reviewer can ever see the text, temporary chat does not meet it.
Which chatbot should you choose?
Choose Duck.ai for the strictest ordinary-storage requirement
Duck.ai is the first choice when “do not store my conversations” means the service should not keep prompts or content-revealing information in normal operation. Select a supported Tinfoil model when provider-side visibility is also a concern. Keep the legal, malicious-use, caching, and flagged-upload exceptions in mind.
Choose Claude Incognito for mainstream capability
Claude is the practical compromise when you want a broad assistant and can accept policy-based retention for safety, feedback, or legal reasons. Use Incognito deliberately; do not assume an ordinary chat receives the same treatment.
Choose ChatGPT Temporary Chat for a short-lived session
ChatGPT is suitable when the key requirements are no history, no memory update, no model-improvement use, and a stated safety-copy limit of up to 30 days. Do not save the conversation, and remember that authorized investigative access remains possible.
Choose Gemini temporary chats for configurable deletion
Gemini is useful when you value a selectable auto-delete period and an explicit ban on training temporary chats. It is not the strongest option for minimizing reviewer access or all forms of retention.

How to use any of these services more privately
- Select the privacy mode before typing. For Claude, choose Incognito; for ChatGPT, start Temporary Chat; for Gemini, start a temporary chat. Duck.ai’s privacy behavior is built into the service, with Tinfoil models available when supported.
- Check the model or mode indicator. Make sure the interface still shows the intended temporary or Incognito state after starting a new conversation.
- Minimize identifying details. Replace names, account numbers, exact addresses, customer IDs, and unique case descriptions with neutral placeholders before sending a prompt.
- Do not upload secrets. Treat files as more sensitive than ordinary text because scanning, abuse detection, or legal retention can apply even when training is disabled.
- Do not submit feedback on a sensitive exchange. Feedback can attach the related conversation to a longer retention workflow, particularly in Claude.
- End the session without saving. In ChatGPT, saving a Temporary Chat changes its retention behavior. In other services, avoid converting a temporary or Incognito exchange into an ordinary saved conversation.
- Review account-level deletion settings. Gemini users should choose the three-month, 18-month, 36-month, or indefinite activity setting that matches their needs, while recognizing that human-reviewed records can follow separate rules.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Confusing training with storage
A service can promise not to train on a conversation while retaining it for safety or operations. Ask both questions: “Is this used for training?” and “Can any copy remain?”
Assuming a hidden history is an erased history
Temporary or Incognito modes usually change what appears in your account. They do not necessarily erase safety records, reviewer data, or legally required copies.
Turning on a private mode after sending the prompt
Privacy controls apply to the conversation in the mode you selected. Start the private session first; do not paste sensitive material into an ordinary chat and try to change settings afterward.
Saving the conversation for convenience
Saving defeats the purpose of a temporary session in ChatGPT and can move the exchange into regular retention behavior. Copy only the non-sensitive result you need, then discard the temporary session.
Uploading identifiable documents
Redaction is safer than relying on a privacy label. Remove credentials and direct identifiers, summarize the relevant facts, and use synthetic examples when the task allows it.
Ignoring provider-specific exceptions
